8 Ch. 07 - Grinding For Pewter City

After leaving the Pokemon Center, I headed to the Poke Mart to purchase some supplies.

Along the way, I talked to some of the NPCs but just like in 'Pallet Town', I didn't acquire any crucial information, though one boy did mention the existence of two different types of caterpillar Pokemon. This reminded me that I needed to buy an Antidote for 'Viridian Forest', in case one of my Pokemon got poisoned and fainted before reaching 'Pewter City'.

At the Poke Mart, I bought 2 Poke Balls for ₽200 each, and 2 Antidotes also ₽200 each. With a total of ₽800, I was left with only ₽160.

Now that I have almost everything I would need to successfully cross 'Viridian Forest' and reach 'Pewter City' all that is left is to catch a normal-type Pokemon on 'Route 22' which will help me defeat the First Gym Leader, Brock.

But before that, let's use the PokeDEX to check the information about my Pokemon.

I thought of summoning Charmander and the Poke Ball of Charmander appeared in my hands.

I took Charmander out of his Poke Ball and pointed the camera of the PokeDEX in his direction.

Reviewing Charmander's information, I called him back into his Poke Ball and took out the Poke Ball of the newly caught Pokemon, Hoothoot.

Just like last time, I pointed the camera of the PokeDEX in his direction and the information about the Pokemon appeared.

[PokeDEX : 163

(IVs are stats inherited from a Pokemon's parents which decide their nature proficiency.

[Growl <Normal > PP: 40/40

Peck <Flying > PP: 35/35

Ability : Insomnia (Prevents the Pokemon from falling Asleep.)]

'I didn't know that Hoothoot is a Normal-Type Pokemon. I should focus on leveling up Hoothoot. I will be a huge help when facing Brock.'

After looking at the information on both of my Pokemon, Though I was not an expert in the field of Pokemon, what I could tell from the looks of the IVs of both my Pokemon is that It would be a waste for me to invest much time in Charmander since it has very bad IV stats but Hoothoot on the other hand has little better.

I started making my way around 'Viridian City' to find the path of 'Route 22' where I would grind to quickly level up my Hoothoot.

Shortly after I came across a sign that read:

<VIRIDIN CITY>

<The Eternally Green Paradise>

The sign was at the junction from which 2 paths were connected, One going to the East and another one going to the North.

The West path should be the one that leads to 'Route 22' while the one that goes North should lead to 'Viridian Forest'.

Switching my first Pokemon from Charmander to Hoothoot, I opted to switch from Hoothoot to Charmander during wild Pokemon encounters, allowing Hoothoot to gain EXP without actively participating in battles.

Spearow Lv. 5 <Defeated >

Doduo Lv. 5 <Defeated >

[You have found a Great Ball]

Just as I defeated the Doduo, It left behind a Great Ball.

Spearow Lv. 5 <Defeated >

The HP of Charmander was low after fighting two Pokemon, so I made a quick trip to the Pokemon Center to heal him up. After healing my Pokemon, I again started grinding on 'Route 22'.

[Hoothoot grew to Lv. 6]

[Hoothoot wants to learn the move <Echoed Voice>]

[But Hoothoot already knows four moves.]

[Should a move be deleted and replaced with <Echoed Voice>?]

Looking at the notification, I choose to forget <Growl > move and learn <Echoed Voice> in its place.

[Hoothoot forgot how to use <Growl >]

[Hoothoot has learned <Echoed Voice>]

After that, I continued grinding, Because of the <Echoed Voice> move, it became a little easier for Hoothoot to face off against other wild Pokemon and not get knocked out. So, I choose to not switch from Hoothoot to Charmander every fight.

Rattata Lv. 5 <Defeated >

Mankey Lv. 4 <Defeated >

[Hoothoot grew to Lv. 7]

Spearow Lv. 5 <Defeated >

Nidoran ♀ Lv. 4 <Defeated >

Nidoran ♂ Lv. 3 <Defeated >

Spearow Lv. 4 <Defeated >

Nidoran ♂ Lv. 5 <Defeated >

While fighting Nidoran ♂, it used <Poison String> move causing Hoothoot to be poisoned. After defeating Nidoran ♂, I started making my way to the Pokemon Center but unexpectedly I encountered another Pokemon.

A Ponyta Lv. 5, Which I chose to catch, I used <Echoed Voicec> to knock its HP down as much as possible and then used Poke Ball to catch it. It took me two Poke Balls to catch it.

{Image Of Ponyta}

The HP of both Hoothoot and Ponyta was in the red, So I hurried my way to the Pokemon Center and got them healed up.

Before going back to 'Route 22' and continuing my grind, I called Ponyta out to check its information.

[PokeDEX : 077

Name : Ponyta (Fire)

Nature : Gentle

XP : 125

To Next Lv. : 91]

[HP : 20/20

Attack : 14

Defense : 10

Sp. Atk : 13

Sp. Def : 12

Speed : 15]

[HP IV : 16

Attack IV : 23

Defense IV : 31

Sp. Atk IV : 30

Sp. Def IV : 5

Speed IV : 25

Total : 130/186]

(IVs are stats inherited from a Pokemon's parents which decide their nature proficiency.

Each IV has a maximum value of 31.)

[Growl <Normal > PP: 40/40

Quick Attack <Normal > PP: 30/30

Tail Whip <Normal > PP: 30/30

Ember <Fire > PP: 25/25

Ability : Run Away (Enable a sure getaway from wild Pokemon.)]

Looking at the information on the Ponyta, I could tell that it is a relatively good Pokemon compared to my other two Pokemon if it is based on the IV values.

Back at the 'Route 22', I started grinding.

[Hoothoot grew to Lv. 10]

After Hoothoot reaches Lv. 10, I stop my grind. Now that I have two Pokemon at Lv. 10, It should be a breeze for me to cross 'Viridian Forest' and the Pokemon trainer who will forcefully have a Pokemon battle with anyone in sight.

After returning to the Pokemon Center to get my Pokemon healed, I sit down in the sitting area while waiting for my Pokemon to heal. It took me a lot of time and multiple trips to the Pokemon Center while grinding, If it was not for the <Wait Time> in the Pokemon Center then it wouldn't have taken me this long.

But as time passed, more and more players started to arrive in the 'Viridian City' which caused the <Wait Time> to increase exponentially.

While grinding I even saw some players going in the direction of 'Viridian Forest'. There were some players who came to 'Route 22' after watching me and moved ahead but they returned after reaching the end of 'Route 22'.

They must have found out that they can not go in this direction until they have Gym badges. So they started heading in the direction of 'Viridian Forest'. Some of the players who went to the end of 'Route 22' were kind enough to share this information with other players such that other players don't have to waste their time.

I took out my PokeDEX to check my remaining time.

[DIPPER - Issued 20XX-02-02

PokeDEX - 3

Money - ₽160

Max Obedience - Lv. 20

Time Remaining : 00:04:16

<Gym Badges>]

I only have about 4 minutes left in the Pokemon world. Rather than doing anything else, I choose to sit back and relax a bit since I have been running around and grinding nonstop, so I am a bit tired.

I sat there while watching other players come and go, and just like that my second day in the Pokemon world came to an end.

I wonder what will happen to my Pokemon who were still with Nurse Joy, waiting to be healed.

[A/N : All the stats (Base Stats, IVs, EVs) of the current team are available in the auxiliary chapter.]
