Chapter 57

Chen entered the police station. It had been a very long time since he'd been here. That's logical. After all, Chen was a good citizen now.

He felt quite nostalgically when he stared at the door.

The policemen didn't seem to mind his existence as he entered from the door and faced the receptionist.

Some of them greeted him, and he greeted them back. He surely had spent a quite good time by this point. He asked the receptionist for an appointment with the police chief, and after verifying through the phone, the receptionist told her to head in her direction.

Chen had a goal here. And it was to convince Lin to watch over Korra while he wasn't around. After all, she was the Avatar, while he was the slacker. He can't watch over her 24/7. But Lin can. And in case the Order of the Red Lotus appeared, he would be ready for the worse and erase them from existence.

Chen suddenly stopped his steps when he felt someone behind him. Feeling the figure was familiar, he let her put her hand on his shoulder.

"Well, well. Look who finally decided to give a visit." Came Lin's voice behind him as she squeezed her fingers on his shoulder.

That hurt, for sure.

Chen, making a bland expression, said. "It has been a long time."

"For you to appear here finally," she pushed him, and they entered her office. "It must mean you are in a deep problem."

"Uh?" Chen was left at a loss for words as she stood up in front of him, glaring deeply into his eyes as if she was a devil who wanted to take him to the depth of hell.

"Nice to see you again, Chief," Chen said, simply.

Geez. Why can't she simply say that she missed him or something?

Why was she hard to talk to? At least, it's not boring to talk to her.

"Don't play innocent." Beifong scoffed. "At any rate, you didn't forget what I told you will happen the last time, didn't you?"

"Behave like a bad boy, and you'll be punished." Chen sighed as he rubbed his shoulder. She surely had a strong grip for her age. He sat down on the chair opposite hers and said. "You know what, I'm starting to doubt what made me a good citizen."

"Don't make me laugh. People like you never change" She said, sitting on her chair. As she waved her hand, the metal door behind him closed on its own.

Chen raised an eyebrow at her. "Really. When was the last time you caught me doing something bad."

"Let me remember. When you, without permission, invaded a factory and broke the bones of people, one of them is crippled now."

"The last one is Amon, and the former is the Anti-benders. The Avatar takes the responsibility."

"Remind me again why you went behind my back."

"Cause I thought you gave your sleeping schedule importance."

Chen could tell where this conversation was heading.

Last time, to get out of the situation, he'd flirted with Lin. He'd even said her skin was good for her age, and she'd been giving him the looks that day. He looked at the roof and exhaled a long sigh.

Lin tightened her gaze at him. "And why is that."

Somehow, she sounded like she was flirting as her green eyes scanned him.

As he stared at her full lips, he wondered how can she keep them still.

Lin looked at his eyes, her eyelid shaking a bit. "What are you staring at!?"

Chen rubbed his ear with his finger. She could be so loud sometimes — how could he forget that?

"Listen. I have important news for you." Chen said. "Are you interested?"

"Dodging as usual." She leaned on her chair. "Spell it already."

"Right," Chen said. "You heard about the airbenders that appeared from nowhere, right."

"Yes." She replied. "These are high secret information. But the rumours are spreading. All we did was to make them look like rumours."

"Anyway," Chen said. "Do you know the reason behind it?"

"Tenzin mentioned something about a Harmonic Convergence. Wait a second." She stared at his face. "Don't tell me you have a direct hand in it."

"Tenzin didn't tell you."

"He told me that, you, Korra, and the chief of the Northern tribe fought against the dark spirit. Hard to believe, but Tenzin doesn't lie." She replied.

Chen rolled his eyes, and he chuckled. "Although he said most of the truth, Tenzin can be a very good liar that you won't catch him. He's like the air, dodging you every time you try to catch him."

Lin's lips finally twitched, and she exhaled a chuckle. "True, especially about the part where he dodges the truth. What did you catch on him?"

"Is it important?"

"Yes, you won't leave until you tell me."

"Fine. Hear me first." Chen took a deep breath and said. "As you know, I've been in the spirit world. Last night, I've been visited by a spirit. It told me about the Order of the Red Lotus is free, and they will target the Avatar. I'm here to tell you to watch her and contact me in case you suspected something."

"You're lying about the part of a spirit visiting you last night." She put her leg on the table. Chen realised that the armour moved away from her leg. She was basically a lie detector.

Shit. How did he forget that?

"Surprisingly, you're honest about the last part. But I'm not going to get in whatever thing is here until you're being honest with me." She retrieved her leg, and she let her face closer to his. "You're going to tell me, how the hell you know this, and how did you know about the equalists, Amon and Tarrlok."

Chen blinked a few times at her.

So, he couldn't lie to her.

How about saying the truth differently, in a technical way?

"Well," Chen shrugged. "You probably won't believe me, but there's no spirit involved. But Tarrlok, Amon everything I told you about is the truth. How do I know? Because I have visions about this world, about events in the future."

Instead of memories of a previous life, he could say a vision.

When he recalls them in pictures, it's visual memory. Technically, it's the same as a vision.

"No way?" she took her head back. "I can tell you are saying the truth. But for you to believe a mere vision?"

"Haven't it proved that it's right?"

"And how you believed them in the first place. If I were you, I would have treated them as stray thoughts."

"You know my previous name. It's a Mystical Flame. The first part is of me being mysterious."

She relaxed her lips. "Stop lying. Anyway, what are other visions you know."

"I'll tell you in time," Chen replied. "As for Korra thing. I don't know about the Red Lotus, but I've seen that they will kidnap her, and they'll take her away. Their leader is going to turn into an airbender." He took a deep breath. "He'll free his group. If it's not too late, we should go and guard his organisation members."

"No, it's already too late." She shook her head. "It's as you've said. Zaheer became an airbender and escaped. While we're discussing, he is at the North Pole. I just got the news from the radio. So, you have a vision that it will target the Avatar, and kill her."

Chen nodded, feeling quite protective toward Korra.

The more naive a woman was, the more protective a man was.

Having heard that Zaheer and his organisation got free was bad news.

It would be a matter of days before he comes to Republic City.

"Listen, I would need your help getting them."

"Oh don't worry. I was planning to catch them before you even came to me. Now that you know their target, I think it's easy to make things out." She then reached her office and brought something.

It was a walkie talkie. Chen smiled. He'd never thought that such a thing existed here. But given the existence of the radio, it made sense for a walkie-talkie to exist.

"Keep this with you, I'll call you through the radio in case something happened."
