4 4 - That escalated quickly

During the next few days, the girls took frequent trips to Cain's house. Amy was in the process of gaining her [Instance Dungeon] skill, and Margo came just to hang out.. School was pushed back another week, mainly because of parents' suing and concerns.

No one complained and kept working. While it took Cain 8 days to get his skill, Amy took 13 days. The time difference mostly came from the fact that Cain would overwork himself, but in reality it wasn't necessary. He was a muscle brain, and Amy was not.

They celebrated the final day of hard work. In the time it took, the three of them became good friends. Many jokes were being had at the lunch table. It was around that time when Cain's father entered the front door. "Is that your father?" Oh no.

Cain thought that he was supposed to be gone for another week. His schedule must have been moved. "I see Cain has some friends over. It makes me glad. I'll be here on break for a week... I heard about what happened at school."

The three of them had long gotten over the event, but gave a moment of silence as a sign of respect. "Thanks dad. I thought you were going to be mad or something." Cain thought that his dad had heard from the police. It was only a matter of time before he would have to explain the whole player jargain.

His dad surprisingly didn't talk about it. His corporate connections were no joke. Finding out was one call away. While his dad sipped on some coffee, the friends kept talking. Cain's dad was a beast of a man for a business man. His very presence seemed to leave a suppressing feeling over the table.

Before he could finish his coffee, there was a knocking on the door. Cain's father went to answer it. "Hello officers, how may I help you?"

"Ah yes, may we speak with one, Cain Fortissimus?" The officers were let in. They had a set of files with them that sent a shiver down Cain's spine. "Don't worry, we're not here to get you in trouble. We're just a little confused is all."

Unveiling the files, the cops revealed all of the moments of Cain's fight. There was even a crack in the concrete created by his first dash. His dad looked very intently over the evidence. "We want to know how you did these things. The goblin-like creatures appeared out of nowhere, so we have no leads. However, your weapons and armor were also similar."

"Officers.. Are you trying to say that my son is responsible for the accident?"

"We're not saying that, it's just a possibility." Cain didn't know how to prove it to them. The only thing he could do was take items out of inventory. It would just be the same thing he was being accused of. 'If only I could take them to the dungeon, or show them my windows..' he raced his thoughts.

Amy and Margo gave their own viewpoints. However, with them being Jack's friends didn't help his case. Jack spoke up. "I need to try something." [Inventory] "Reveal." The inventory appeared before the newcomers; suddenly enough for his father to have almost choked on coffee.

He was eventually able to explain that he got powers from the event, rather than to cause it. The officers weren't really sure what to think of this. They had most likely come to them as a result of parent pushback, hoping to end it there.

They promptly left. However, now his father knew everything. "Cain. Are you planning on continuing to live life as a.. Player?" The answer was obvious. His father gave a short sigh. "Then I have one request. If this is a larger scale than just one school, can you create a guild for my company?"

The words dropped like a heavy weight. No one knew how to answer. "I can offer an initial bonus, as well as a recurring salary. You all are free to take part." Still no response out of confusion. No one expected this kind of idea.

The next thing they knew, Cain was in a Business office talking to a massive shareholder. "Chad, I trust your judgement, but are you sure? This is the farthest bet you've made in a long time."

"You should've seen the stuff my son did. It will change the world in due time."

"How can you be so sure?"

"It happens in comics all of the time. People awaken powers and companies invest in them, making massive profits in the process." The shareholder wished to see what he could do. They headed out to the parking lot.

Cain's idea was to run as fast as he could. Confident in his new 124 agility, he felt like he could take Usain Bolt on a whim. The shareholder had a security guard hold a speedometer. The pressure was exhilarating. Cain didn't want to embarrass his father.

His dad didn't seem to have fear, despite not knowing his son's strength. Chad was a respected advisor to investors because he was almost never wrong. His predictions had a 95% success rate. His plan was to take claim to the idea of guilds here and now. Even if Cain were to fail, he'd have the reputation later on. There was no risk in giving his son this opportunity.

Charging, Cain leapt as fast as he could. The guard chuckled. "Well, the kid hit 35 mph. That's definitely a world record." The shareholder looked back to where Cain started. A small crack stood in the concrete, formed around the shoes he used to leap off with.

The advisor, shareholder, and player headed back inside. "How many players do you expect to have gotten powers?"

"I don't have a grasp on it, but it depends on how many people can survive a monster attack."

"What makes you think you're better than these other players?"

"I was the first one to read my stats, and have been working on it ever since." The shareholder smirked. He was obviously sold. After seeing the inventory and status, all he could see was possibility. They began to negotiate terms. Cain wanted some independence, and didn't want to be a leader. In exchange, Cain was to reveal the existence of players and attend some press conferences.

The shareholder also wanted to have some armor he could use to test against modern weapons. Cain gave the best stuff he could spare. Even though it wasn't a concrete set of terms, he liked these conditions. Having a guild was one of his main hobbies in MMOs.

The final verdict was hastily written into a text document and signed. To seal the deal, the shareholder wrote him a check. The amount of zeroes held within seemed fake, but it was real. Selling his loyalty for 2.4 million dollars, Cain went home as a rich man.
