12 Chapter 12

Music recommendation ~Alone~ by Ava Max

"Come back here this instant Evelynn!" Richard roared, who was she to ask such questions and walk out of him like that?

Evie did not listen to him, instead, she climbed the stairs to her room.

"Just so you know, we are having a family dinner with the Owens at six pm, and you are coming along with us," her father added and Evie received the message loud and clear.

"Your daughter is becoming something else nowadays," Richard stated, making his wife; Sonia sigh.

"Point of correction, our daughter and not my daughter," Sonia said, sipping her tea, she looked at Evie's plate full of toasted bread, her daughter had not eaten since she came home yesterday.

"You shouldn't have asked her that question, now she is not going to eat till God knows when at least you could have allowed her to finish her food," Sonia complained but her husband did not utter a word.

Silence reigned in the dining room and after Richard finished eating he left the dining room but not without pecking his wife and bidding her goodbye.

Evie shut the door behind her and let herself slide down to the floor, she buried her head in between her thighs.

She could not cry, she had been crying, yet it did not solve her problem. She was tired! Tired of everything, tired of life in all.

If anything, she wanted to run away, run to somewhere far away, if possible to another dimension where her parents can never find her. But she knew better, her parents would hunt her, even if it means following her to hell.

'Evelynn Dora Tan, what are you going to do now?' She asked herself.

She needed someone to talk to, someone to share her problems with, she had been carrying too much load in her heart recently, she needed to offload it and that means sharing it with someone.

There was no one to share it with, not her dad, neither her mom nor Eric, as usual, Eric would still see reasons with her parents. She needed a friend.

Now she understood the importance of friends, yes! no one is worthy to be trusted, someone still has to trust, because in this life, no matter what, we need friends.

No wonder Ava Max sang the song 'Alone', indeed in this life, no one can make it alone, we all need someone to rely on, we need friends.

Evie had always seen friendship as a waste of time, the one and only friend she had was when she was in college.

She breathed out heavily, as she leaned her head on the door, she had to stand up to her challenges, no more crying! No more regrets! It was time to take the bull by its horn.

Evie took one last look at herself in the full-length mirror. It was 5:45 pm and they were heading for the Owens mansion for dinner tonight.

She was dressed in a sky blue jumpsuit and had 4inch heels on, she applied a little makeup on her gorgeous face and had a pronouncing red lipstick applied on her lips. She let her long red hair cascade down her back, the edges of her hair were perfectly curved.

She walked downstairs majestically, which had most of the staff staring at her, she was a queen of her own.

"You look gracious," Richard complimented but Evie did not spare him a look.

'Does he think I am on good terms with him? He just really was out of his mind!' Evie said internally.

Just then her mother approached them, she was dressed in a mermaid gown and had makeup applied on her face.

Sonia had good features and now Evie knows where she got her beautiful features from; her mom.

"I think it is time to get going," Richard stated as he winked at his wife, earning a chuckle in return.

He then approached her and captured her lips with his. Evie hissed, they were acting like lover birds when they were about to marry her off to a man who she does not love.

She left the sitting room for the garage, she collected the keys to the Rolls Royce from the driver and drove off without her parents.

She was sure that they would come along, even if they didn't, she did not care.

Evie's phone rang, making her shift her attention to her phone to see the caller ID, it was her dad. Lazily she picked up the call,

"Where the fucking hell are you? We are supposed to be in the same car and arrive as a family, why did you drive off?" Richard thundered.

"Is it the car that matters or the destination? Which one? We are still going to arrive at the same place, why are you making a big deal out of nothing?" Evie asked and ended the call abruptly, she did not waste time tossing her phone away.

Evie checked the location of the Owens mansion and in no time she arrived.

She drove into the compound through the computerized gates and then alighted

At the same instant, her parents' car arrived and her parents also alighted. Her gaze connected with that of her father and she could see the fire burning in his eyes.

An evil smirk graced her face. She was never going to make it easy for her dad.
