The Maledictus

The world is currently facing an epidemic and that is the increased birth of Maleditus also known as The Cursed Children.

Cursed Children are usually identify by their odd colored hair and eyes at birth although what makes them unique develops around age six. Families who bare maledictus children are commonly ostracized and banished from their hometowns. The global birthrate drastically decreased due to a fear of having such babies. Daily, the News reports , on families, or even whole cities being destroyed by small children and sometimes even babies. Although such violent incidents are actually rare, society has branded all Maleditus as a threat. With the rising fear of the Cursed Children a man named Curtis Whitaker decided to start up a school he named Maledictus Academy. It did not matter what the children or their parents wished for, all Cursed Children must spend 12 years of their lives there. At age six the children are forcefully taken from their homes and enrolled, sooner if their powers develop early and they cause an incident. Upon graduation all students are required to fight on the front lines in the military for at least two years, for an unfortunate few they must stay in the army until the day they die. Those are the ones who join ALPHA.

In families containing more than one Cursed Child only one is required to join the military; the one who shows the most combat capability and skill. The other is allowed to move into the designated neighborhood containing only Maledictus and family members who choose to stay there as well. If a Maledictus lives in one of these cities they can always be drafted for ALPHA whenever the government whims.

Once in ALPHA the only way to resign is death, there is no retirement, the pay rate is low but those who refuse to join when drafted are either killed or imprisoned forever. So there never was a choice, the freedom is only an illusion.
