The Dark Wizard of Prague
Lucien Beaulfoy was a very reserved child growing up unlike children of his age, he didn't go out to play or make friends. He would stay indoors all the time as he didn't feel the need to socialize, he thought of the children as lesser beings because they weren't as gifted as he was and he used the little opportunity he got to hurt them secretly. On his 12th birthday, his father came back from the demon realm with a gift for him, it was a black treasure chest with the finest of toys in it but they didn't seem to interest him. The only toy he was fond of was the magic pen he devised to specifically harm other children. There was a piece of paper at the bottom of the pen and once the paper was attached to anyone, he could torture them with it and that's what he did to children in his neighborhood. He would sneak out in the middle of the night to clothing lines and attach the paper to clothes left on the line and trigger the spell from the pen and cause pain to the person that wore the marked clothes. He would write different torture spells with the pen and would get amused as the children suffered. His mother knew of his evil demeanor but she didn't say anything about it as she loved that her son was dominant over the other children. One night Lucien was lying on his bed facing the ceiling and thinking of what spell he was going to use next, he got up from the bed and went to the treasure chest to take the pen. When he got a hold of the box he felt it was slightly heavier than it used to be so he opened it to see if new toys had been added to it but he only saw the old ones he never played with, he picked up the box and shook it vigorously but only the old toys fell out. He then smashed the box against the wall and within the broken pieces of wood, he saw a book, he picked it up and opened it and he saw that the words on it were of another language he didn't understand, but just below each line, he saw translations in the magic tongue he was able to understand. After flipping through and studying the pages he discovered that it was a book of spells and on a further study he found out it was dark magic and it made him all the more interested. He hid the book safely during the day so his elder brother Nazaire didn't see it and he studied it at night, he continued to study and practice in his room till he learned the spells offhand. The book was an Enchanted book so it continually changed its content every full moon so Lucien got exposed to lots of information which made him have a very broad knowledge of dark magic.
Nine years later he stumbled on a particular page and the contents contained the darkest spell he had ever seen. It was a spell for prolonged life and it required the sacrifices of 5 little children within the range of 2 to 9 years on the third full moon of every year and it was a spell only witches and wizards could do. Lucien saw an opportunity at a long life and he wanted to seize it, even if it wasn't immortality, so long he did the sacrifices as instructed he could live forever. Before the third full moon of the year he turned 24, he kidnapped 5 children in 5 consecutive days and kept them inside a well-hidden hole he conjured in his room. On the day of the sacrifice, he sealed off his room and prepared it for the sacrifice after which he brought the children out, but he didn't know a spell that could kill as offense magic wasn't particularly popular back then so he turned to traditional methods and with a knife, he slit their throats as they screamed and carefully poured their blood in the tiny path he had drawn out and after a while he finished the sacrifice and disposed of their bodies in the lake near the town.
The following afternoon when he woke up he felt a surge of power flowing through him as he had never experienced before. As he basked in the greatness of his new power he was disturbed by screams from mothers on the street, they wailed and rolled on the floor for their children were no more, murdered most terribly. The children had been missing for days and a fisherman was sent out to check the lake to see if any of the missing children had probably drowned and after a long search he finally found them floating near a large rock which was also in the lake. He called for help and when they pulled their bodies to shore they saw their throats had been slit and the news quickly spread throughout the town. Everybody went to the burial of the dead children including Nazaire and his father but Lucien's mother stayed back with her daughter, she couldn't stand to see the sight of the dead children because deep down she knew who the perpetrator of the crime was.
Ten years passed and the incessant murders that happened in the town of Prague every year remained unsolved, till one evening when Lucien discovered a new page in the book. It was a page that talked about the only spell for immortality but it would require a heavy price from Lucien. The spell could only be activated by the sacrifice of a child born during a blood moon and the task of finding a child born during a blood moon was extremely tedious. Lucien almost gave up till it hit him that his younger sister was birthed during a blood moon and although he struggled to accept this heavy price he couldn't resist the temptation of more power and eternal life so on a faithful night while Nazaire and his father were keeping guard of the town from the serial killer, Lucien went into his sister's room and tried to kidnap her but Adeline was strong she tried defending herself from her brother but after a short, while she was subdued and taken away. He took her to his near unpassable room which he had used a series of Enchantments on and set her unconscious body on his ritualistic altar and began to recite a very lengthy incantation.
Lucien's mother Clarisse went to do her routine rounds on her daughter and found out she was missing while the room looked like a Storm had blown through it and upon closer inspection, she saw Lucien's hairpin which she gave to him when he turned 20 and she ran to his room which was quite far from Adeline's room. She banged on the door and tried using different spells to break it down but to no avail, she then teleported to the watch tower where Nazaire and his father were keeping watch. After she explained everything from how she knew Lucien had been the perpetrator to the very event that took place that night Nazaire's father grabbed her by the throat and attempted to throw her from the watch tower but Nazaire stopped him and urged him so they could leave. Nazaire tried creating a portal directly into his room but it didn't work due to the Enchantments so instead, he just created a portal to his front door and only he and his father went through it while his mother teleported back. When they arrived they tried using difficult spells but it didn't work and as they tried Lucien laughed inside his room at their futile efforts but he didn't know the true strength of his elder brother Nazaire.
Nazaire stopped for a moment and told the both of them to move away from the door, after closely observing the door he bellowed a spell he had personally invented. The spell created a series of powerful explosions at the front of the door and after a moment the door broke surprising Lucien, seeing his stronghold had been undone he picked up Claire and attempted to teleport but his father blocked the gateway, he was able to do so because he too was also a powerful wizard. Lucien dropped his sister and turned to the three of them, he quickly used a spell to make his mother freeze but before he could mutter another spell his father pointed his wand at him and blasted him with a bolt of lightning which threw him against the wall.
"I'm not sure you know how powerful I am," Lucien said.
"Not powerful enough" Nazaire replied as he tried restraining him with a vine spell but Lucien deflected the spell and simultaneously disarmed his father of his wand and permanently paralyzed him. He proceeded to strike Nazaire but he blocked it and used a counterspell on him which he blocked too. Lucien, even though he didn't say it, was surprised at how powerful his brother was, but that was the con of being a witch or wizard it makes the person weaker and inferior to a sorcerer but in this case, due to the series of sacrifices and his education on dark magic Lucien was a bit stronger than his brother. After over an hour of fighting Lucien overpowered his brother and struck him with a dark spell that made his hand wither with each spell that he tried to cast which made Nazaire stop and drop his wand.
Lucien approached his brother who was now kneeling with a crimson Stone in his hand and began to chant a spell that would seal his soul inside the stone. He walked majestically with a smile on his face at the thought of his victory but what he didn't know was that his sister Adeline had already woken up and was communicating with Nazaire behind his back. As he got closer to his brother, Nazaire quickly slid his wand to Adeline and she picked it up and attempted to strike him but he deflected it and struck her with the paralysis spell he used on his father.
"You think you could use a 15-year-old girl to defeat me?" Lucien asked as he let out a loud burst of laughter but he was unaware of Nazaire's true intentions, he threw the wand to distract him while he got hold of the other wand in his cloak more powerful than the one he was wielding.
"Obsigno!" Lucien bellowed pointing his wand at Nazaire.
"Ego reflecto!" Nazaire bellowed and reversed the sealing spell at Lucien and instantly his soul left him into his portrait on the west wall just above his altar and his lifeless body fell to the ground.
After many years Nazaire with the help of his mother finally learned the spell Lucien used on his father and sister and he reversed it. A year after their recovery they relocated to France and Nazaire with the help of the magic council in France and his family built a magic school to help children learn magic so they could defend themselves from evil and it was adopted by the different magic councils of the world and after a couple of years, magic schools began to pop up all around the world. After the École de magie was built Nazaire created an Enchanted Labyrinth that rotated at intervals beneath the school and hid the portrait of his brother in a room within it so no one could ever find it.
