Desperate times

Peter had terrible nightmares night after night ever since the night he opened the book. He tried to make a picture in his mind of what Melissa had described, but when he thought of it he became riddled with fear. First about the fact that he could've died had it not been Melissa who acted quickly and secondly about the strange figures he saw in his nightmares.

The figures looked like the ghost costume he occasionally wore in previous halloween celebrations but more terrifying and more alive and on top of that he kept on hearing voices in his head chanting spells that he could not understand nor could he say with his mouth.

Peter chose not to tell either Alice or Melissa as he didn't want them to worry, he felt for Alice the most because he blamed himself for their failed escapade to the Castle to rescue her mom. Lost in his thoughts he didn't notice Alice standing by the door as she smiled at him.

"How're you feeling Peter," Alice asked as she did her routine check-up on Peter, wearing her fake smile and pretending to be ok but deep down she wanted to go back to the Castle for her mom.

"I'm doing brilliantly," he lied.

"You do know you can talk to me any time right?" Alice asked as she beamed a beautiful smile on Peter. He couldn't resist her smile and divulged what he read on the pages of the book.

"The page I read said something about the calling of souls. A spell the user could use to call a soul and the body provided he had an item of importance to That person but it's too dark for me to wrap my head around it," Peter said dully.

"It's fine Peter, just forget about it ok?" Alice assured him. Peter forced out a smile as he watched Alice leave the room.

Alice had gotten to the field to spar with the golem Peter created which was a rather strong one. she drew out her knife from its sheath fiercely to attack the golem but she immediately took a pause as a blistering thought came to her mind.

'Peter could use that spell to bring Mom here,' she thought, 'dark or not it's the only option we have'.

As she pondered on the thought she became more and more fixated on the idea. She ran Into the cottage to Peter's room with a happy look of relief on her face Peter could not help but smile back at her.

"Why are you so Happy Alice what's happened," Peter asked with a big grin on his face.

"It's my mom, I know a way we could save her," Alice said excitedly.

"come on then let's hear it," Peter said expectantly not anticipating the folly he was about to hear.

"We could use the spell you saw in the book to bring my mom here Alice said as she panted in excitement. "You already know the spell I'm sure and I have the items". Hearing such rubbish, Peter got up hurriedly and tried leaving without paying attention to Alice, but she was not willing to pass up this golden chance so she locked the door from where she was with a spell and rushed over to Peter pinning him against the wall.

Even though she was the same age as Peter she was more experienced than he was.

"Do you know what you're saying, Alice?" Peter asked.

"You're trying to keep the power for yourself aren't you that's why you didn't want to talk about what the spell was isn't that right?" Alice asked angrily.

The beautiful girl whom Peter saw in the room a month back was gone and at that moment he was staring at a desperate, sad, and distressed child. He tried to explain to her the consequences of the spell, but she wasn't in a listening mood.

She grabbed him by the collar of his black coat, courtesy of Melissa and sent him crashing into the wooden table at the center of the room.

Naturally, she didn't have that much strength, so she used a spell that enhanced her physical abilities to get the better of Peter.

She walked over to Peter to launch another attack but this time she was met with resistance. Peter's eyes darkened as he levitated from the ground and grabbed Alice by the throat, he squeezed tightly as he watched the life leave her body without remorse.

Melissa ran into the room when she heard the commotion but as she entered the room Peter stared at her with the demon gaze and she collapsed to the ground. Alice was a few moments away from death when the room became foggy and a blast of fire out of the fog was shot at Peter but he was unscathed.

Peter let Alice down and turned to face where the blast came from, but as he turned he felt a very great power pulling him down it was a feat that was near impossible as it was the former Demon Lord's power that was in control, but this was a forbidden technique that allowed the user to separate souls, the spell Vermont intends on using to retrieve his father's power.

He gathered momentum and got up but before he could do anything Alice, and Melissa who had soon woken up used a restraining spell on him and shortly after he fainted.

But he was soon woken by the sudden stench of death that filled the room a stench the Demon Lord's power was familiar with.

The Soul eaters from the dark dimension had come to claim the user of the forbidden spell. A dark portal enveloped the ground and terrifying creatures began to crawl out of it in search of the user of the spell.

At this time Peter had already regained control of his body but he still felt that great power at his fingertips he looked at the soul eaters but it wasn't his regular eyes doing the staring, it was his Demon gaze the most powerful in the demon realm the Demon gaze that resulted from the power of the former Demon lord.

At the sight, the soul eaters scampered back into the portal they crawled out from and it closed.
