A Mistake

This is a story by my great great great aunt:

Emma Duggin

Once, a young man went in a department store to purchase for his sweet heart a pair of gloves for a Xmas present, and at the same counter a lady was buying for herself a pair of drawers. He gave the gloves to the wrapper to be wrapped and at the same time the lady gave her drawers. Through some mistake, she gave the lady the gloves and the man the drawers without examining the contents. He sent them to his sweet heart with the following letter.

—————————

My Dear Jillian,

In a little package, you will find a little Xmas present. I hope you will accept it in place of the ones I ripped last night. They are the finest and best quality I could find anywhere and I hope they will fit you. If they are too large, they will wrinkle down a little but they are worn that way now a days. I wish I could be with you when you put them on as these are many remarks the sales lady suggested about putting them on. If they are too small, just leave to top button unfastened. Oh how I wish that no other man's hand would touch them but mine, though I guess many man's hands will touch them before mine do. You know some fellow's hands are dirty and will soil them, but they can be cleaned with Napha or Benzene and are alright when they get dry. The sales lady is wearing a pair she has worn for three years and they have been cleaned only once. Do not let any man touch them and be sure you wear them when I come again so I can see how they fit. Well, I hope they will be alright. And when you put them on, think of me. Don't forget to put them on when I come to see you, so I will close.

Yours lovingly,

Charles

PS: Don't pull them off on the corner or go on the streets without them as the skin will chaff badly.

Emma, wasn't that a mistake right? I wonder if she wore them when he came so he could see how they fit. Ha Ha

Author's great great great niece:

It's so cool how my mom found these, we thought this was so funny and I had to post it for the world to see.
