The Orphanage

I woke upon hearing the woman of the orphanage calling me.

"Perry! You snot brained brat! Get your butt over here!"

A horrid voice like the screeching of a dying rat called from the entrance of this dreary pit. As i carried myself out of my bed and slowly trotted my way towards the direction of the voice whilst my body screamed in protest.

Walking down the dark and dreary halls full of rotten wood and termites running about, i spotted light ahead of me, and sped up before basking myself in the sunlight.

I walked into view of the counter, and saw the orphanage lady whom had buttons about to leap from the torment of her wobbling stomach. Her nose had a wart the size of an acorn, and her mouth was smiling a mouth full of rotting teeth which held green bits of old food, and pitch black cavities.

"Today's the day i no longer have to deal with you! Ya snot brained brat!"

The orphanage lady smiled her horrid teeth in my direction, and i could feel a waft of corrupted air seek its way into my nose. Nearly forcing the disgusting supper from last night out of my stomach.

"So this is Perry Machar… It's nice to meet you perry. My name is James. My lady has requested to have you adopted."

The man had a shaggy grey beard that was oddly unkempt, and grey hair which was curled to match his curled smile. His forehead had three wrinkles on it, and the scent of an old man could be felt coming off of his person. Fortunately, it was much better than having to deal with the horrid scent of the orphanage lady.

The man peered into my eyes as if looking into my mind, and then held his hand out for me to shake it.

"It's nice to meet you sir James."

I thrusted my hand out as faster than the eye could see, and shook his hand with the vigor of a rabid beast.

The man withdrew his hand and turned his gaze to the orphanage lady, whilst tipping his hat.

"Well then, Mrs.McKarr, i've to be returning to my lady now."

The orphanage women smiled, giving him a waft of horrid breath.

James was unmoved at this horrid breath, and began walking out the door whilst he waved his hand for me to follow.

Rotten wood creaked under each step i took.

I was finally leaving this pile of rotting wood, and i felt that i would never miss this place regardless of what venture awaited me.

The moment I walked out of the door, my body was basked in the stale air of the outside world.

My foot fell upon the dark grey brick road which was full of cracks and small critters scuttling about the pavement. As my eyes danced upon the grey smoke in the air which was covering the blue sky above with a dark cloud of a dreary color.

"Perry, come along. We must not ignore the patience of my lady."

James' eyes gazed upon my face as if he were watching prey and was about to pounce.

I gulped my saliva from the tense atmosphere, and nodded. Following suite in his footsteps now.

We rushed ourselves down the road which bore dull buildings on either side with no decorations, and oddly only a few people on the streets wandering about like mindless beings.

I peered into an alleyway on my left, and what fell upon my gaze was a figure in tattered rags. The figure was under the shadow of the alleyway, and it let out the screech like a dying crow when it noticed my gaze.

I flinched, and returned my gaze to sir James' back, as i followed his paced footsteps once more.

"Come, Perry. We must not be distracted by the common distraughts of life."

James' mouth danced in a furious rage, as the tone was heavier than before, and it fell upon my ears like a hammer would on an ingot.

I quickly moved in unison with his footsteps, until a rock from underneath the pavement leapt from its footing and attacked my foot, throwing me off balance and into the dirt and muck below.

I spat from my mouth as grey muck flew from the gums of my teeth.

I quickly got up, and followed James once more as i lifted my head and found myself looking upon a face full of anger.

"Do not sully the patience of my lady, Perry."

I quickly nodded and got up from the floor whilst ignoring the muck on my clothes from the misfortune i had earlier.

James picked up his pace, and i struggled to keep with his stride.

I soon found myself out of the dreary city, and looking upon a barren land full of dead plants and hard dry dirt. As i could sense something calling my name from the distant forest of dead trees.

Upon seeing me stop once more to take in my surroundings, James hurriedly spoke to me in a heavy tone once more. "Perry, thou must not shun the kindness of my lady. Now come, we must go."

I nodded and continued my stride as i found myself walking through a path with dead and thorny trees on either side.

I could feel a malicious aura creeping up my back as goosebumps shivered from my limbs.

My gaze soon fell upon a mansion with dark wood and grey stone used as the base, with no color other than grey and a dreary brown for the construction.

There was a large metal gate along with stone fences on either side of it, as James opened the door, and led me into the yard of the horrid mansion.

The trees danced above in the wind as if they were laughing at the position i had been thrown into.

The dead bushes waved their leafless limbs in my direction as if taunting me to continue onwards.

My feet soon fell upon the steps of the mansion's door, which gracefully took sir James' feet, and fell upon his grasp. Opening the once closed room to my sight, as I gazed upon the blood red chandeliers overhead.

The entire room was filled with naught but the color of a dreary red, as i could see the stairs forming an arc on either side of the room and within the middle of it was a doorless chamber which held a black table and a few black chairs.

James stepped upon the dreary red carpet, and I followed his footing, as we both stepped into the main room of the dull mansion.

As soon as we took five steps into the mansion, a maid covered in dark red clothing stepped into view from the right. Causing my soul to dance from its container and nearly waft itself into the afterlife.

"Take this young man to his room and get him dressed. I must attend to the lady."

James spoke with a light tone, and the maid nodded.

The maid had her face covered with shadows from the hood of her cape. As if she never had a face to begin with.

The maid spoke no words. Only stopping to wave towards me and signal me to follow.

I nodded and followed the maid up the blood red stairs, and was guided into a dreary hallway where i found myself staring upon many black and sullen doors. It was as if they had been smeared with charcoal.

The maid opened the nearest door on the right, and it swung itself open as if taunting me to enter.

A black musty smoke came from within the room, and the maid withdrew her hand, as dark matter was smeared across her palm from the handle of the door.

The maid waved her hand into the room, and i nodded, intaking what she wanted me to do.

I stepped into the room, and a second after wards the door slammed itself shut.

Startled, I grabbed the charcoal ridden handle of the door, and opened it.

However the maid was nowhere to be seen. The only thing left was a dreary red piece of paper on the floor which was shaped like the maid from before.

I wondered where the maid had gone, and soon returned to my chambers, finding a black bed and table. There was a blood red wardrobe to the side, and my hand danced whilst moving to open it.

Within the wardrobe was a few sets of blood red clothing, as i withdrew them and took off the clothes I currently had which were covered in grey muck from the misfortune of my past.

I tossed my old clothing into a basket at the side of the wardrobe, and thrusted my legs into the blood red pants, as i threw on the shirt as well.

Then i closed the wardrobe, and the moment I closed it I heard a screech from afar.

The screech was as if an animal had been killed, yet it held a human tone to it somehow.

The goosebumps on my arm began to grow cold and shiver as I felt a rush of adrenaline from my person.

I heard heavy footsteps coming from down the hallway, and i quickly ripped open the doors to the red wardrobe as it danced with glee.

I launched myself into the wardrobe, and hid behind the sets of clothing as I closed the wardrobe and peered through the keyhole.

The footsteps stopped at my door, and the handle of my door began to turn with a screech in protest.

Story I wrote last year for a project.

I had to rush the ending of it a few pages later, but i'll be changing that to something more interesting and much longer since i'm rewriting it. Leave a comment! Please no haters... I'm so tired of them already...
