Chapter 5: The Camp (2)

I was absolutely mind-blown by the sheer unrealness of this place. Janus gave me a briefing about the camp. There are twelve cabins inside, each representing a major god from the Greek pantheon. The campers I saw running around earlier weren't just any normal campers; they were demigods.

So, gods truly are real and they are still active.

"And I'm supposed to be a son of a god too?" I asked Janus, who was sitting beside me and eating some enchiladas, which, according to one of the satyrs named Groover, were the best delicacies here. Unfortunately, Groover was absent, as he needed to attend to some demigod's matter.

"Yup. I just don't know which one. Maybe you'll find out later if you get claimed. But some campers never get the chance to know their parents, so a lot of them end up in Hermes Cabin," he said casually, munching on the enchiladas in his hands.

"Wait, I'm still confused. Why would some gods never claim their child?" I asked him.

Janus looked left and right before leaning towards me, as if about to divulge one of the biggest secrets of the century.

"Saying this will get me in a lot of trouble, so be quiet and don't tell anyone that I said this to you," he whispered with a serious tone.

I nodded, acknowledging the gravity of the situation.

Then he leaned closer and whispered, "Gods are just bad parents."

I sighed and facepalmed at his answer. This wasn't some big conspiracy; it was just the typical behavior of a person with power.

"I thought you were about to reveal some ancient secret, but what you just said is the most obvious thing," I remarked, but I guess he didn't hear me due to his loud chewing. He was chewing his food like a goat, which, I suppose, was appropriate given his half-goat nature.

As I sat on one of the logs near the river with Janus beside me, Annabeth approached us.

"Hey!" She waved at me.

"Hi!" I waved back at her.

"So, did Janus already give you a tour around?" She asked. I shot a glare at the goat man beside me and asked, "You were supposed to give me a tour?"

"What? Don't look at me like that. I was hungry, you know? It was a long ride. I know my priorities," he said, defending himself.

'Foolish idiot…'

Annabeth sighed at him and gave up arguing.

"Come, I'll give you a tour," she said to me.

I thought this was better. I guess I should thank the stupid goat man for this, I mused inwardly and grinned.

I stood up from my seat and walked closer to her.

"You lead the way," I said with a sudden smile, following her behind. I glanced back at Janus, and he gave me a look that said 'You should thank me later' with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes at him and ignored his antics.

"Sooo… this camp… quite the mind-blowing experience," I said to Annabeth, and she replied with a giggle.

"Most of the new guys have that reaction, but yours is much milder, I think," she said.

"Is it true that we are all offspring of gods here?"

"Yeah, mostly. Some are children of gods and mortals, while some are children of both demigods. We call them Legacies," she explained.

"Cool, so who are your godly parents?" I inquired. She suddenly stopped before answering.

"Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare," she said, a hint of pride in her voice.

"That's cool. Is there a god of being an asshole in there? Cause if there is, maybe that's my parents," I joked, and Annabeth laughed.

"Oh, what's that?" I pointed at a place where a group of campers—or should I say demigods—gathered around, sparring with each other.

"That's the arena. That's where we do war games and stuff," she explained.

Annabeth gave me a full tour around the camp, and by the time we reached the last destination, a strange man appeared out of nowhere. Well, not exactly a man—he had a horse for a lower body and the upper body of a middle-aged man.

Is that what they call a Centaur? I guess so.

"Chiron!" Annabeth called.

"Ah! Annabeth, there you are," he replied with a wave and a smile. Then, he looked at me.

"A new face, a new arrival, I assume?"

"Janus brought him earlier," Annabeth answered.

"How's Groover?"

"Oh, he's coming here tonight. Be prepared; he'll bring a new special camper," Chiron replied with a mysterious tone.

"I have to go see the Camp Director. I'll see you later at the camp to greet Groover and the new camper," he said, trotting off towards the biggest house in the camp.

"Wow, a horse-man! It's my first time seeing one," I said.

"By the way, that right there is the Big House. That's where the Camp Director is," Annabeth continued the tour, ignoring my side comment.

"Camp Director?"

"Yes, Mr. D, as we like to call him, but his real name is Dionysus," Annabeth explained.

"Dionysus? You mean the god of party and stuff?" I asked her, recalling my knowledge of mythology. I hated most subjects they taught in class, but strangely, I particularly liked mythology. That's also one of the reasons I listened to Janus's mumbling.

If my knowledge served me correctly (which I knew it did), then Dionysus was the God of Wine, Party, and most of all, my favorite, the God of Orgy.

"Yup, exactly," she replied.

"Are you serious? So we have a literal god as a camp director?" I asked, surprised and baffled. I mean, I'd seen monsters and fought them, probably on a monthly, if not daily, basis, but having a god as a camp director was a whole different level.

"Exactly, but he isn't exactly here on his own volition. Zeus punished him," she explained, but her words barely registered in my mind as I was still trying to wrap my head around the concept of a literal god being the camp director of little children.

"Damn, your camp is fucking cool!" I exclaimed, and she gave me a smirk, which I assumed was a prideful one.

'I wonder what a god looks like,' I thought, feeling excited.

"I know, and by the way, cursing is not allowed," she warned me.

After a few more introductions during the tour, it finally came to an end.

"I guess that ends our tour," Annabeth said.

"Let's go to our last stop." She then guided me to one of the twelve cabins, specifically the Hermes cabin.

"This is the Hermes Cabin. This is where unclaimed demigods stay until they get claimed," she said. Despite the grim and depressing nature of this cabin—housing unclaimed demigods—there was no sadness among the campers inside. They were playing and bantering joyfully.

'So, this is where they dump the rejects huh,'
