21 Chapter 20
Percy woke up at about 8 and quickly started his day. He fed his Pokémon their special food and took down his camp.
After that Percy got a call from Ash. 'I wonder what he wants.' Percy thought curiously. 'Yo Percy.' "Hey. What's up." 'My friend and I found a Fearow colony and I was wondering if you wanted to help us out. Of course you'll be compensated for it.' Percy thought for a second and said "Sure sounds good." He couldn't think of a reason to say no and he was kind of hoping to hang out with more of the Prodigies.
'Alright. I'll send you the locations and introduce you to him. Be prepared to attack about 150 Spearow and 75 Fearow. I'll ask Jason if he wants to come too. See you soon!' Ash hung up and Percy picked up his egg.
He put the egg on his back and called out Crash. "Let's go buddy." He pulled up his Pokédex to look at the location Ash sent him. Luckily Ash was only about 5 minutes south of where Percy was staying so it didn't take long for Percy to stumble into a campsite.
Around a camp fire sitting in foldable chairs were Ash and a boy Percy didn't know. 'Why didn't I think of that?' Ash and the boy turned toward Percy and Ash stood up and smiled. "Yo you're here already. I thought you would've taken longer but it's been like 5 minutes." Percy smiled back and said "I set up camp a little bit to the north of here. So I didn't need to come so far." Ash nodded.
"I asked Jason if he wanted to come but he said he had something to do. Let me introduce you to Jasper. He's one of us Prodigies. Jasper, Percy. Percy, Jasper." Ash introduced them. "Nice to meet you. I've heard about you from Ash, Misty, Marcus and Haley." Jasper introduced himself. Percy nodded. "What did Misty say?" Percy asked.
Jasper looked confused but replied, "She said your Totodile is an asshole." Percys hopeful face descended into disappointment. "Oh. I'm looking forward to working with you." Ash quickly stepped in to defuse the awkwardness. "There's a large colony of Spearow and Fearow to the southeast of here. We were thinking of what we wanted from the colony.
Are we looking for Pokémon to add to our team or are we tryna make money from selling them. Should we be targeting the strongest ones for better potential. Or should we just take out as many as we can to sell them. So we waited for you to get here to give some input. Let's take a seat by the fire while Jasper prepares breakfast." Percy nodded and they sat around the fire.
Unfortunately Percy didn't have a foldable chair in his Pokédex so he had no choice but to get a leftover fire log from his Pokédex and sit on jf. Jasper set up his cooking equipment and laid strips of meat onto a skillet.
Jasper was a little taller than Percy and had a handsome face. He had messy forest green hair that went down to about his jaw. A long scar marked the bottom of his jaw and went down his neck below his green shirt.
His brown eyes watched the meat sizzle and he flipped it at what appeared to be very specific time intervals. "What do you want the most from the Fearow colony Percy. I personally want money. My Metapod and Pidgey have been holding back from evolving for a while now and I'm afraid it'll hurt our progress if we wait any longer.
I'm trying to get some high quality bug type and flying type items to increase their potential." Ash explained his thought process on it. "I'm looking for a team member. I don't really need money right now so I'd rather get a high potential Pokémon." Jasper said his opinion while flipping the meat.
He started sprinkling spices and salt overtop the sizzling meat.
Percy sat and thought about what he wanted at the moment. "I think I want a high potential Pokémon for my team." "Alright, then I'll think of a plan to accomplish our goals the best." Ash said. Jasper took the meat off of the skillet and set it on 3 plates. He handed it to everybody and sat down. "What kind of meat is this?" Percy asked. "Furret meat, bacon style with a Rota spice blend." Jasper responded with a wide smile. "Like from the Rota Kingdom?" "Yeah I learned the spice recipe from a chef I used to live with." Percy nodded and tasted the food.
It was a delicate meat with incredible tenderness. The meat melted on the tongue and would touch every single taste bud causing Percys mouth to explode with flavor. He quickly destroyed the meat on his plate and sat back. "Alright I think I've thought of a strategy to maximize profits. Let's start with picking off small groups of hunting parties.
I've been watching the colony for a little bit and know that they travel in groups of 5 or 6. There are some Fearow and Spearow in each group. They'll go hunting and bring back prey to the nest. The nest is large tree in the middle of the plains and the branches are spread across the sky. Like I told you earlier there's about 150 Spearow and 75 Fearow. Both Jasper and I got Pikachus so we can destroy the strong ones first and all you got to do is distract while we do things.
Let's show each other all of our Pokémon so we know what to expect from each other." Percy nodded and watched them release their Pokémon. Ash released a Metapod and Pidgey and Jasper released a Monferno and Pikachu. Ash had his Pikachu on his shoulder at all times. Percy moved to release his Pokémon but hesitated. 'Should I tell them about Pharaoh?
If more people find out I might be hunted down.' After a second of thinking Percy decided that it was okay to show them. He thought that maybe his status as a prodigy can get him by. At least it might let him get strong enough to protect himself. He opened Fúrias and Pharaohs balls and pulled out his Pokédex.
Ash and Jaspers faces became extremely surprised as their brains comprehended what they were looking at. "Is that—" Jasper started. "A shiny Growlithe!?" Ash exclaimed. "Yeah."Percy said simply. Ash and Jasper stood up from their chairs and got closer to inspect Pharaoh. "What's their name?" "His name is Pharaoh." Percy said. "Can I pet you Pharaoh." Ash asked. Pharaoh looked at Ash and shook his head no.
His face became crestfallen and he turned to Percy. "Where did you find it?" "Right before I got into the city Jason and I stumbled into a Growlithe nest. He was the leader of the pack and wasn't an easy Pokémon to defeat." Percy explained. "Are there any more Growlithe?" Ash asked. Percy shook his head and said "You'll have to ask Jason. Even if he still had them their best potential was a light yellow." Right then Jaspers and Ash's opinions of Percy changed.
Ash thought that Percy was an average guy who didn't really bring anything special. Although Jasper has only just met Percy it wasn't a good first impression. There was nothing about him that really stuck out. No radiating charisma, overwhelming confidence, or quiet strength. He just was slightly above average at best.
Even when they had first met Percy made up some random excuse to not battle Haley. "Alright then, we'll start hunting the Spearow and Fearow. Should we pack up camp or keep our stuff here." Ash said. "I think we should pack up. I don't want all my cooking equipment being destroyed by some random wild Pokémon." Ash nodded and started taking down his tent. Meanwhile Percy scanned their Pokémon with his Pokédex.

Percy was impressed with their Pokémon. He saw that their Pokémon had extra moves that they couldn't learn normally. From what Percy knew there was only one learnset for each kind of Pokémon.
But Percy was sheltered his whole life so a lot of his knowledge is only solid confirmed information published in books. Percy helped them pack up the camp and they set out for the Spearow and Fearow colony. They walked leisurely as there was no rush.
Percy decided to ask how their Pokémon knew other moves that they couldn't learn normally. "How do our Pokémon know moves they can't learn normally? Well if we have them practice with learning a new move in mind then there's a chance that they'll learn a new move. For example my Metapod knows Electroweb unlike other Metapods. I had Pikachu shock him a little bit while he used String Shot and was eventually able to come with the base of Electroweb.
And Jaspers Pikachu knows Iron Tail which it can't learn from just getting stronger. We had my Pikachu teach his Iron Tail and after a while she was able to grasp it. At the moment Metapod is working on trying to learn Iron Defense. At least until he's able to evolve. For some moves you might want to strengthen a move to have the ability to learn it.
For example Jaspers Pikachu can't learn Thunderbolt until she is strong enough with Thundershock. We think that she'll need to get it to expert rank to be able to learn a stronger move. So I guess the way to learn different moves is to have a basis of knowledge and build off of it." Ash explained. Percy nodded and thought of what he had just learned. He was thinking of what he could try and get his Pokémon to learn.
Crunch seemed to be a good move for Pharaoh to learn but from what Ash said Percy thought that Bite might need to get to expert for Pharaoh to learn it. Of course he could just buy a TM but that made it significantly more difficult for Pokémon to master the move. So if he learned a move on his own it would provide more long term benefits.
They walked for a couple more minutes until Ash signaled to crouch down and stay quiet. They crouched in the long grass as they were in the middle of a field. "We need a bait Pokémon. Preferably something that the Fearow and Spearow think they'll beat with ease." Although Fearow and Spearow were dumb they weren't suicidal so they only attacked things they thought they could beat. "I'll have Fúria be bait." Percy volunteered and waved to Fúria behind him.
A Mankey would be great bait as they normally only stay in trees and aren't good against flying types. "Alright let's creep around here until we see a small flock. You'll have Fúria get their attention and we'll ambush them. Jasper and I will take out the strongest with our Pikachus and you can take care of the rest.
My Pidgey and Jaspers Monferno will take the rest on with you." Percy and Jasper nodded and crouched stealthily behind Ash. A few minutes later they spotted a flock of birds flying above the grass looking for prey. Percy carefully pulled out his Pokédex and scanned the Pokémon. 2 Fearow and 3 Spearow circled the area their eyes scanning for Pokémon.
The Fearow were level 23 and 24 and the Spearow were levels 12, 16 and 17. Unfortunately all of them only had white potential and had near no value. Then he noticed that there was something weird about them. They all knew the move Tailwind. "Send out the bait." Ash whispered. Percy nodded and signaled to Fúria. Fúria ran forward in the tall grass being loud and jumping up and down. The Fearow noticed Fúria and dived toward her.
The Spearow followed closely behind and flew toward Fúria. When the Fearow came within range both Ash's Pikachu and Jaspers Pikachu use Thunderbolt and Thundershock respectively. Ash's Pikachu immediately knocked out its target as it was a strong move and on Expert rank.
The other Fearow was still conscious but was extremely wounded. Ash ordered his Pidgey to use Air Cutter to finish off the weak Fearow. The Fearow still recovering from the super effective attack was unable to dodge all of the air discs flying toward it.
It was hit by the last air slash and fell down to the ground unconscious. Percy had both Crash and Pharaoh prepare their ranged moves and moved out of the way of the action. Although Percy could handle himself he would only be a burden in a fight. Most trainers would avoid being close to danger and Percy was no different.
The three Spearows looked for the attacker and dove toward the Pikachus. Crash shot boiling water at one and Pharaoh shot Flamethrower at another. Scald barely missed one Spearow but Flamethrower hit its target getting it to go down in one shot. Now only 2 Spearow remained and they were closing in on the Pikachus.
Jaspers Monferno leapt out of the grass covered in fire. He slammed into one of the Spearow and fell back to the ground. Both Pikachu used their moves again and knocked out both Spearow. The three boys immediately emerged from the long grass and moved toward their Pokémon.
Ash caught all of the Fearow and Spearow. Almost immediately after he caught them they booked it in the opposite direction of the nest. They had talked earlier and decided to leave the area where they fought just in case.
About 5 minutes later they stopped running and crouched in the ground again. None of them were even slightly out of breath as they were all in great shape and in their youth. Percy was curious as to why Ash caught the Pokémon as they would barely sell. "Why? Because I don't just want to leave unconscious Pokémon I attacked on the ground. I think I'll just release them once we're done with them.
I also thought that maybe I could find out how they learned Tailwind. Maybe we can target whatever Pokémon is teaching them." Percy nodded. "Alright let's go looking for more. I think we can get most of this colony finished by the time we have to meet at the gym. Can you stay the whole time Percy?" Ash said.
Percy thought for a second. "I think so. I don't think I've got anything going on. I'd just like to get back in time so I can get ready." Percy texted Jason to let him know he won't be back for a while. Then they looked for their next target.
