2. The game begins

Austin frantically looked around for a weapon until his eyes landed on a large wrench beneath the kitchen sink. He grabbed it and slowly walked over to the door.

*Thud*

The zombies continued to hit the door, Austin watched as the door started to splinter as more and more zombies joined the fray.

*BANG*

Suddenly a clawed hand smashed straight through the door, sending splinters flying across the room. The hand wildly tried to grab at nothing, scaring the shit out of Austin.

Austin just sprang over and started bashing the arm at the elbow with the large wrench, after a few bone-breaking hits the arm went limp.

But as fast as lighting the arm was pulled back out the new hole in the door, Austin sprung back and looked through the hole.

He was greeted by an angry zombie pressing its face up against the hole, "GRAAAAOR!" The zombie roared angrily at Austin.

"Must've been his arm."

Then another arm burst through the door, and another. Austin didn't have time to take a breath before the door was suddenly smashed open, splinters flying everywhere.

Austin raised an arm to protect his eyes from the small projectiles and brought the wrench up, ready to hit something.

Austin quickly lowered his arm and saw three zombies shamble through his doorway, once they saw Austin though they immediately let out a screech and sprinted straight at him.

Austin jumped backwards and ditched the wrench in his hand straight into the face of the first zombie which blinded it for a short second.

But a second was all Austin needed.

In that narrow hallway there was only room for one person to walk at once, so Austin sprung forward and swung his wrench straight at the first zombies head. With a loud crack the wrench rebounded off the zombies skull.

The zombie shot out a claw that Austin barely dodged by turning to the side, then Austin once again brought the wrench smashing against the zombies skull, which smashed the zombies head in like an egg.

But as the first zombie fell to the floor there was another one clamouring over it, this one was limping and had a broken arm. Austin seeing the opportunity launched a kick at the zombie, which caused it to fall backwards and knock over the other zombies behind it.

Using the small reprieve Austin turned around and grabbed one of the wooden chairs behind him, then he raised the chair up and brought it fast down onto the second zombies body. He could do this because the hallway was quite tall.

The chair cracked and two of the legs snapped off, the zombie didn't fair much better either with several of its bones getting snapped.

Austin took another step forward and once again brought the chair down, but on the zombies head this time. The zombies skull caved in as the chair crushed it.

"GRAAAAAA"

The third zombie finally got back up and screeched at Austin furiously, Austin responded by hurling the chair at the zombie, sending it flying off its feet.

Austin didn't waste any time and ran over to the downed zombie, and repeatedly stomped on its head. It took a good six stomps until the zombie finally died, splattering blood everywhere.

Austin took a deep breath, but a notice suddenly went off in his mind.

You have levelled up.

You may distribute 3 status points, voice your commands.

Status:

Strength: 15

Agility: 11

Wisdom: 6

Stamina: 12

Austin was shocked into silence, but he quickly regained his senses. Austin couldn't afford to become distracted in his current environment.

"Add two points to strength and one to stamina."

Austin felt himself become stronger as a strange new energy circled around his body.

But Austin didn't have any more time to waste, first he looked down at the zombie corpses and saw something which confirmed his suspicions.

Next to one of the zombies was a steel baseball bat, near another was a pair of metal fore-arm guards, or gauntlets.

"As I thought, with the rpg elements like status points, there are mob drops. This God has a strange sense of humour."

He slipped on the gauntlets and grabbed the baseball bat, then he removed his constricting school shirt and put on a jacket with a hoodie, then he changed out i his leather school shoes and put on some runners. All the while staying on guard for more enemies.

Once he had finished he slipped on his back pack and slowly walked out of his dorm room and into the hallway, not daring to make a sound.

First Austin saw a few zombies standing around the hallway, with about five zombies standing in between him and the stair case that led to the lower floors.

"Nope, no way, can't go that way. Can't go the other way either." Austin pondered to himself as he slowly inched his way back into his dorm room.

Once he was back inside his dorm room he started thinking about what he should do, until he saw a strange black book he didn't see before next to one of the zombie corpses.

Austin reached down and picked the book up, as soon as his hands touched it though, a message appeared inside his mind.

Skill book: Inner Demon

Rank: Unique

Consumption: 60mp

This is a unique skill awarded by the god to the first person to kill a monster singlehandedly. This skill causes the user to undergo a transformation into a monster with increased strength, agility and stamina. Degree of transformation depends on master of skill. Length of time transformed depends on degree of mastery.

Activate skills by saying name of skill.

As Austin read the description of the skill he new that it would definitely come in handy, so he quickly learnt it.

The book suddenly turned into particles of light that entered Austin's body, Austin wasn't expecting this so he took a step back in surprise, which caused him to bump into the table.

Which caused a glass to fall off the table.

Austin watched the glass fall in horror, then it collided against the floor and caused a loud ringing sound to reverberate through the boys dorm.

"GRAAAAAAAOOOOR!"

Every zombie in the previously deathly quiet boys dorm roared and sprinted to the source of the sound.

Sadly the walls of the dorm were thin, so sound traveled quite far in the dorm.

Austin cursed his luck, then he steeled his gaze and gripped his bat until his knuckles turned white, sweat appearing on his brow.

With a loud thud a zombie collided with the side of jacks ruined doorway, then it scrambled back up and leaped straight for Austin, with a terrifying amount of its brethren in its wake.

Austin gave his new baseball bat a swing, and felt it collide with the first zombies skull, turning its head into mush. That zombie dropped to the floor, but Austin watched in horror as eight more zombies scrambled into the room.

"Inner demon!"

Wasting no time Austin quickly activated his new special ability, the second he saw the rest of the zombies.

A dark crimson red aura swept across Austin body, filling him with an unknown energy.

Two thirty centimetre horns suddenly erupted from Austin's forehead, his skin turned black with strange red tattoos spiralling across his entire body, his vision was slightly tinged red and his entire being was flushed with power.

All this happening in the time span of a second.

Almost as soon as the transformation finished one of the zombies threw itself at Austin, but Austin met its rush with a bat swing that hit the zombie in the throat.

The bat forcefully tore the zombies head from its body, sending the head and body flying across the room and slamming into two zombies behind it.

But just after this another zombie tried to bite down on Austin's outstretched arm, Austin quickly backhanded the zombie with his metal gauntlets, hitting the zombie across the jaw.

While that zombie was dazed he blew its brains out with a heavy blow from the metal bat, killing it instantly.

Two more zombies threw themselves at Austin simultaneously, but Austin crushed one's head with a brutal downwards swing while he kicked the other across the room.

Another zombie ran at Austin, but it was met with a fierce uppercut and then a bat the the face, blowing its foul brains across the room.

But while Austin's body was turned away one of the zombies managed to tear its claws across Austin's bicep, ripping through the jacket like it was made out of paper.

Austin jumped backwards and barely avoided another swipe from the zombie, while jumped backwards he managed to cave in another zombies skull with his bat, but now Austin's back was against a window.

Austin felt the zombie's shoulder hit his chest and let out a gasp at the zombies strength, but his gasp was interrupted when he went through the window, glass cutting into his back.

Austin lost ahold of his bat and raised an elbow, then he brought it down ferociously on the zombies back successfully separating the two of them midair.

But the crisis wasn't over yet as Austin fell from the fifth floor, he wasn't able to manoeuvre himself midair so the only thing he could do was watch the ground rush up to meet him, he hurriedly protected his head.
