Elize whined, jutting her nose at the woman's chest, desperate for her to be okay. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she leaned down towards the old witch, memories flashing in her mind. Aileen was the one who had held her fast to her chest when Anna had passed away. She was the only one who could manage to calm her down.

Night after night, the woman had stayed beside her, whispering stories into her ears and distracting a very tiny Elize who had no clue how to deal with loss. When her mother took her back home that year, she had promised to write to the witch often. For years, she had given the letters to her mother to post. She had wondered why the letters which came in reply were burnt at the edges.
