1 Uncaught dreams

Cold was the night, bright was the moon.. A chill summer breeze traversed from across the trees, as the branches and leaves murmered. Deep-deep secrets unknown to the world. It slightly swinged the front gates of Adam Ville as if someone was coming in. Then it went up to Cara's windows past the curtains. Windchimes melodied a perfect melody of reunion. The dream catcher that was hung on the corner of her room failed to catch a dream. Its feathers danced in air declaring its defeat in its battle to filter out Cara's dreams. As strange was the night, strange was the things she kept saying in her dream... if somebody was there, they would definitely be curious about Cara's dream. The overall strange aura left her no choice but to keep her eyes open. How could she not wakeup when she felt a weight in her chest, that she was struggling to breathe and sweating profusely. She could literally feel her heartbeat drumming from her chest that she thought her rib-cage would burst anytime. She screamed so loud but no sound escaped her throat, she tried to runaway but her body was numb. Two emerald eyes and a wicked grin stared at her. The tall figure stooped down and whispered in her ears, "It's time...".

"aaaghhh", Cara finally managed to let out a soft scream. But she felt a sense of joy after feeling like losing control of her own body. Another sleep paralysis.

Ever since her 18 th birthday, she started seeing strange dreams and nightmares. It has come to a point she no longer feels that it's safe to sleep. The place she fears the most is her own bed in her own house. Even when she isn't sleeping she felt some intense gaze stuck to her back that she felt compelled to turn back and check.

"Ughhh.. god please...", she groaned. She got up from her bed as her heart was still beating wild and her senses are wide awake. She quietly descended the stairs hoping not to wake up her mom.

Her mom, Eli, was a single mom and a forensic scientist. She worked hard to take care of Cara's education and house expenses. Being a single mom wasn't an easy task. She never made Cara feel the absence of a fatherly figure. To Cara, Eli was both her mom and dad. Cara was aware of all the hard work her mom does for her, and she felt extremely grateful to have a mom like Eli.

When Cara was a little kid she would ask Eli about her dad. Everytime Cara asked her, she would toss the question by changing the topic. Like, "There is a new dress that I saw in the mall, I though it would be perfect for you. Let's go buy it tomorrow?"

But as she grew up, she grew out of a need of a father as Eli filled up the space of her father too. She didn't care if she had a father or not. Even if she had a father, she hoped he would never come back to destroy her peaceful life.

She grabbed a drink from the refridgerator and almost screamed when she saw her mom sitting alone in the dining table and it was dark.

"Mom?"

"Huh!!!?", Eli was surprised because she didn't expect her daughter at this hour.

"why are you sitting here alone? It's dark. You didn't get sleep?" Cara asked with concern.

"No, I just... had a bad dream. It's Okay, I'll head out.",she said with a sigh as she got up from the chair.

"Goodnight, mom."

"Goodnight sweet heart, make sure you close the window, the wind is a bit strong tonight."

"Okay, mom.."

Cara went back to her room and locked the door before she let out a deep sigh. She saw the windows flung open and cool breeze rushing inside. It was cold outside so she locked the windows and pulled the curtains on. When she looked at her bed, she thought she'll turn the night lights on, so that it would be less scary to sleep. She dozzed of in to the blank as she crawled into the blanket to keep herself warm and safe. She had fallen asleep before she could think of anything else.
