The Academy- chapter 2

The moment I stepped into the portal I was in a field of flowers. If traveling by portal caused sickness, we went too fast for me to feel it. I look at my surroundings and find the biggest building I have ever seen, in front of me. It had the perfect balance between old-fashioned and modern. The giant gate that looked to be a few miles away had a crest with the initials P.A. I could not miss it even if I wanted to.

Surrounding the school was a field of grass and flowers, which was weird considering it was late autumn where I was. Maybe it was a different realm. I have never seen a place so out of tune with the season. It was freaky, but not supernatural.

There was not anything for miles. I do not know if that mattered or not considering the building was big enough to house a town. If this were a school, I could not help but wonder how kids found their classes. It was a three-story building that expanded as far as the eye could see. As one could imagine, my school did not compare. It could not. If this school were royalty, my school would be the poorest of the poor. There is no reason it must be as big as it is.

I see Derek move in front of me towards the school. I look behind me to see if the portal is still there hoping there is even the slimmest chance I can get out of this, but no. The portal was long gone and now I am stuck in an unfamiliar place with an old man with mood swings.

"Are you coming or not?" I laugh at the fact that he made it seem like I actually had a choice. I groan and drag my suitcase across the field. "Couldn't you portal closer to the gate?" I glared. "There's a barrier around the school that prevents anybody from getting in the school without going through security." It was a smart tactic. I'd probably appreciate that sense of security if I'd been in the school, but since I am not, I am all but happy about the walking distance.

We finally made it to the gate after a 30-minute walk. I already hated this school and I had yet to step foot in it. The moment we stepped up to the gate it opened. I highly doubt they would set up a barrier 30 minutes from the school to have the gate open up immediately when approached, so this guy is either of high status or they were expecting me and there might be some truth to what this bipolar man said.

We kept walking towards the school. That's it. "Since we're already in the school, can't we teleport to where I need to go? All of this walking is annoying." I refuse to take another step. "It's best you get to know your surroundings now so that you aren't lost in the future."

I instantly retaliate. "No point, I'm never going to find my way around this school." I knew I could not. It was simply too big. "You remember the streets in your town and the Starbucks around the corner. It doesn't make any difference just because this place is a school." He had a point, but I had lived in that town for the majority of my life. Of course, I remembered the Starbucks around the corner. It was the only place that kept me going through the day.

I roll my eyes. As we continue to walk on the brick pathway, I notice it splits into four directions. We keep going straight. As we continued to walk, the school seemed to get farther and farther away. I did not know if it was my exhaustion or a spell they cast. Either way, I was fed up. "That's it. I refuse to go on. I have an entire semester to figure this school out. Please just teleport us already." I whined. Derek finally stopped and looked back at me with an icy glare.

"Do you ever stop your bitching and moaning?" he gives me an annoyed expression. "Excuse me for complaining about being forced to go to some stupid academy and leave my whole life behind in the span of five minutes." I sarcastically say. "You have to get to know your way around the school. The paths change every hour. Just another safety measure." He winked. Another mood swing. "The more you get used to it the more you will understand your way around the school."

Then this was more pointless than it was five seconds ago! I grumbled. "My town didn't change streets every hour." I glare and walk past him. I hear a chuckle in the background. No doubt he had a shit-eating grin on his face. I am starting to think he likes my bitching and moaning.

We walked for another couple of minutes until we made it to the door of the school. If I had to walk this much to get to my classes every day, I had no doubt in my mind I would be late for every class. He opened the double doors that had beautiful swirl designs, and I was instantly greeted with the chatter of students. A lot of students. It put a new definition to an 'ocean of students.'

A lot of them did not look like Derek. Derek looks human though he may not be. Something I would have to ask him about later. These students had ears sticking out of their heads and tails coming out of their rears. Gils on their face and feathers on their back. Some looked more normal than others, but I had a feeling this was about to become my new normal. Suddenly I could not deny what Derek said.

Even in the crowd of...Abnormalities, I could spot the most gorgeous men I'd ever seen. One of the guys had fluffy greyish hair and piercing silver eyes. He had piercings around his face and a well-toned body. Hell, if I said those piercings did not look sexy as hell I would be lying. The other guy who was a bit taller than the first had untamable brown hair. He wore glasses with a white dress shirt that hugged his muscles and wore ripped jeans. The glasses combined with the semi-formal attire looked well on him. The last guy who was about the same height as the first had jet black hair and red eyes that could rival a ruby. He wore a perfectly fitted shirt that showed enough to tease you and leave you wanting more with a v slit. He wore jeans that hugged his legs, but not too much to the point where it looked like his crotch was suffocating, matched with a pair of Timberlands.

Those shoes were the most familiar things here. "I see you're already fitting in well," Derek said. I snort. Fitting in well? I was practically gawking at every creature that passed my way. I don't see anybody or anything else doing that. As if he could read my mind, he said "You're already falling for Logan, Noah, and Kanen. Blending in with every other girl that wants to ride their dick." Woah, vulgar much?

"Just because I know beauty when I see it, doesn't mean I want to 'ride their dick' " I sarcastically quote him. He grins at me. I don't know what that means anymore. "Let's get you to that office then." We didn't have to shove through the crowd as I had suspected. The students parted for us. Well, Derek anyway. I don't know if this was a good or bad thing because while I didn't have to shove through bodies, the attention that was on Derek, shifted to me.

Including the attention of the three guys, Derek had named. The silver-eyed man who I am assuming is Logan, considering the order Derek stated their name in, growled at me as he muttered something inaudible under his breath. I stepped closer to Derek in hopes that he would defend me if things took a turn for the worse. Knowing him, he might have a mood change in between and end up letting me get mauled by whatever creature Logan was.

Something that I don't think is likely, considering all the trouble he went through to find me. Logan gave me a pained expression until he saw that I was getting closer to Derek. His pained expression morphs into one of anger. I look at Derek and ask, "Does he always do that?" He looks in Logan's direction and then looks back at me with a smirk. "No," he said.

He wraps his arm around my shoulders. "C'mon, let's get you to the office." Logan's low growl turned into a loud and disapproving one. I don't look back, too afraid of what I would see. I sincerely hope his name is Logan because I'm making it a habit of associating his face with the name and it would be slightly embarrassing if I said his name and it turned out to be something else.
