Chapter 7: First night

[March 11th, 2004]

Several days had passed, and Rachel couldn't shake the enigmatic game from her thoughts. Anticipation had been steadily building, and the time had come for her to embark on this spine-tingling adventure during her live stream. She had already alerted her chat, leaving them completely in the dark about what to expect.

With a tinge of trepidation, she initiated her stream. The soft glow of her monitor cast eerie shadows throughout her cozy apartment. Her chat buzzed with messages, a mix of curiosity and uncertainty, mingled with concerns about her impending journey into the unknown.

"Hello, everyone," she began, her voice steadier than usual, a touch of newfound confidence. "I trust you're all doing well tonight."

The chat overflowed with heartwarming messages, urging her to divulge the cause of her sudden transformation. Her newfound confidence intrigued them, enhancing her allure.

GamerDude92, a frequent viewer, chimed in, "Rachel, we've missed you! What's on the agenda tonight?"

Rachel's eyes darted around the messages, fortified with fresh determination. "Thank you, GamerDude. Tonight... it's going to be a surprise. We have something different, something I've never encountered before. Many have requested it, but no response came...until I received a game from someone."

The chat erupted with messages of intrigue. Some had an inkling of what she was alluding to, while others remained clueless. Nevertheless, they were ready to accompany Rachel.

Her cursor lingered over the small .exe file labeled "Five Nights at Freddy's." After a moment's hesitation, she double-clicked it, and the game commenced.

...

The eerie and chilling FNAF menu theme began playing, casting an unsettling pallor over the stream. For once, silence reigned, gripping both Rachel and her audience. They listened intently to the eerie and discomforting music, their eyes fixed on a bear-like robot concealed in the shadows, twitching sporadically. Something felt amiss.

The eerie and unsettling melody of the menu music seemed to linger in the room, imbuing the atmosphere with palpable tension.

Rachel's cursor hovered over the "New Game" option, and an unshakable feeling pervaded her that this was markedly distinct from the typical horror games she'd ventured into.

At that very instant, Rachel decided and clicked the ominous "New Game" button. The screen transitioned, and the viewers watched with bated breath as the game's introductory sequence unfurled.

A profound, chilling darkness enveloped the room as Rachel's journey into the enigma unfolded. The clattering of machinery and the faint, eerie chatter of animatronic characters reverberated through the room, sending shivers down everyone's spines in the chat.

The view shifted to the newspaper familiar to them from Blackstar's site, which had finally confirmed the game's origin.

Not withstanding the pervasive unease in the room, Rachel maintained her composure. Her gaze remained affixed to the screen as the game's narrative gradually unraveled.

The game introduced Rachel's character as the nighttime security guard—the same one featured in the pizzeria's employment ad. This revelation amplified the sense of foreboding.

The viewers scrutinized her every action, almost sensing the frigid atmosphere of the in-game office through their screens.

Suddenly, the phone began to ring, startling both Rachel and her viewers.

"Hello, hello? I wanted to record a message for you to help you get settled in on your first night," the phone message initiated, offering insights about the pizzeria and the animatronics' behaviors.

The voice continued explaining snippets of his experience when working here, until it reached the conclusion of the recording.

The viewers held their breath, their hearts racing as in-game hours ticked away.

Every glimpse of an animatronic character on the security cameras sent a jolt of fear through the chat. The tension was almost unbearable, silencing them all.

A collective gasp coursed through the chat the first time an animatronic moved. Rachel's controlled panic was apparent as she frantically monitored the security cameras and attempted to secure the office.

The game's proficiency in inducing genuine fear was apparent, and it was doing so splendidly.

Rachel's commentary was punctuated by trembling laughter, evidence of her fear.

She shared her observations with the chat, and the viewers responded with a mix of nervous laughter and anxious typing, sharing their own thoughts and theories.

"Did you see that? Something moved... I don't know what it was, but it's not right," Rachel whispered into the microphone. Her voice no longer mirrored the confidence from the start of the stream but rather the fear that had taken hold.

Her fear got the best of her; she locked the doors and scanned the cameras to ensure the animatronics were gone.

The tense gameplay continued for a while, until... the entire room was plunged into darkness.

The power in the game had run out.

Rachel's voice, now laced with a mix of dread and desperation, disrupted the chat's silence. "Guys... I don't know what happened, but the power just went out."

Viewers, equally disoriented and frightened, immediately noticed that the game's night vision cameras had gone offline. Panic set in, mirroring the atmosphere within the room.

The screen displayed only the dimly illuminated exit doors and the eerie silence of the pizzeria. The sounds of machinery and whispers of the animatronic characters seemed to grow louder in the dark.

The waiting was unbearable, and viewers could feel their hearts pounding in their chests, echoing Rachel's mounting fear. They shared a collective dread, bound together in this electrifying moment of anticipation.

And then it happened.

In the pitch-black darkness, a deafening, nightmarish laughter pierced the silence, transitioning into a screeching scream.

A terrifying bear animatronic lunged at Rachel with uncanny speed.

Viewers, along with Rachel, were caught off guard, and the jumpscare was as unexpected as it was terrifying.

"AHHH!" She screamed.

The cacophony of shocked messages filled the chat, a chorus of startled reactions. Rachel's own scream, a mixture of shock and fear, added to the chaos. Her character's demise had been swift and abrupt, leaving the chat in a state of stunned disbelief.

"Wasn't this supposed to be the very first level?" She thought to herself.

The chat was no less bewildered.

GamerDude92: What the heck just happened!

SmibIsASimp: I don't know, but I really don't want to watch this anymore! Why are a bunch of plush toys so scary in the first place?!

Fear was palpable, and viewers had experienced it right alongside Rachel.

Little did they know someone had recorded the stream.

The next day would be just as chaotic as this one.

Chapter end.
