2 I'm.... a baby? (Remastered)

(1 year after Reincarnation)

[Kyrielle's POV]

Almost a year has passed since I was reborn as a baby....

I think it's safe to assume that my former self is dead.... because I am not in a dream. Believe me, I tried countless times to wake myself up but I still end up here in this world, in this body of a baby. From pinching myself and to thinking 'Wake up! Wake up!' whenever I go to sleep... But I always end up in this reality.

Anyone of my age would have had a fantasy or two about being reborn into another world, and have everything you want given to.... a power fantasy. But the reality is much heavier than that....

Still... This is somewhat better than living in my past world... A world known as 'earth.' That is because I was hated by basically everyone in that world...

My mother and father treated me like dirt. I was considered a delinquent in high school even though I've never done anything wrong. For most people, knowing the fact that they probably died will likely make them depressed... But for me? I felt relieved. Relieved to be free from the burdens and guilt of my past actions...

But that is enough about the past now. It took me a while to accept the fact that I died... I must swallow this up and move on as if nothing happened, live my new life as a better person.

"Mama! Food!"

"Oh Kyrie, you are hungry?"

....Or so I said. I can't exactly live my life out as a baby you know? Maybe because I'm still a child, or because I'm bored most of the time, I slept for most of my time and a year has gone by at terrifying speed. Now I am no longer a baby... I'm a child that is a year old.

It appears that I have been reborn in a country that I'm unfamiliar with... Well, I am not that knowledgeable about other countries either back then. But I'm pretty sure that this place belongs to somewhere in the middle age Europe. Likely Germany, or Poland.

Why? Well, my parents and other people all looked like Caucasians with all kinds of hair colors, and there's the climate as well. Even on Summer, it's still quite chilly even inside the house.

With a home inside each walled off city, I could peek out the windows and see a large medieval city outside. The city seems relatively large for this age, but compared to modern cities it is but a small town. The houses are all made out of wood, and only some of them were made out of stone bricks. Although both materials are sturdy, they can't be considered as wealthy.

Here, the locals speaks in a weird language that I have never heard of. After months of listening to it, I can sort of understand a little of what they are saying most of the time, but I still can't speak it at all.

Maybe because of necessity or because I'm a child, I do learn this language very fast.... Unusually fast. I wasn't so proficient with language back on earth you know?

(Author's note : Let's pretend that the MC isn't speaking English okay?)

Speaking of family, my new world's mother work as a herbalist of sorts. She'd always bring in herbs and spices of various types, and brew them into medicines using countless methods. From grinding them into pieces and then boiling them, to putting multiple different ingredients to make sort of a solution... You name it.

Then, there's a maid that would help mom out from noon until just before evening. There's no clock in this world so I am just guessing the time based on the sun's position most of the time.

The maid is called 'Ghyse' and she appears to be a woman with short neck length red hair similar in color to me and mom, as well as looking roughly 5 or so years younger than mom.

Though I call her a maid, she is actually more like an assistant, or an intern to mom. I am not sure about it but Ghyse might be a distant relative of my mother, seeing as how she has the same hair color but different eye color.

Not much else is known about her other than that she'd come here on weekdays, never on weekends. Other than giving sweets to me or patting my head occasionally, we have never really interacted much. Maybe she is just ignoring me?

Sometimes mom's work would finish earlier than usual and she'd play with me. She sometimes plays hide and seek with me, and sometimes read books to me in their language. I don't know if this is due to me being a baby but my stamina is very good, as I can play for hours and still have gas left, unlike my mother who gets exhausted rather quickly and easily.

"This is how you write papa's name, To-ma-su. And this is mama's name, Ka-ta-ri-n. And who are you?"

I responded with my baby voice, "Ki-ri-e-ru...!"

"Oh my.... You can recognize your own name now? Thomas would be proud!"

From my mother's one sided talking with me, I learned that my name is Kyrielle, Kyrielle Buffet. She'd call me "Kyrie" as a short nickname.

I've often heard of the name 'Kyrie' but 'Kyrielle' might be a bit unique, likely a French, feminine variant of the same name. This implies that this country might be of France origin?

Another implication this name gives is rather huge.... I was given a girl's name instead of boy's name.

Yeah. I was reborn as a girl...

And the part that's bothering me the most is using the toilet... For now I can wear diapers, but sooner or later I'll have to learn to use the toilet!

For a girl to urinate, she must be sitting on the dirty plank of wood that we call a medieval "toilet", and it smells disgusting because it's not a modern flushing toilet! I can't just pee standing up either because I don't have a penis, this is outrageous!

And what will happen to my sexuality?! Am I still considered as straight if I like girls, or am I lesbian?! If I like men, am I homo or am I straight?!

Sigh...  I don't know... I just don't swing that way you know? I can't like men.... but liking girls now is also a bit much....

For a few times, I was able to see my appearance through reflections on a water bucket or the mirror in the bathroom. I have red hair just like my mom, and blue eyes from my dad. Other than that, I look just like a normal baby because my hair is still really short now and my face is just the chubby face of a healthy baby.

And yeah... I look cute. Somewhat.

Anyway, it's about time I talk about my father... he is a guard. Well, not your normal guards, he is the Captain of the guards. Captain of this area. Captain of swordsmen. Also Captain of tomfoolery, as mom calls him.

And I wasn't joking. He HAS that many title, and apparently he is a very incredible person.

Well outside of his guard duties, he is just your normal husband and father. He would sometimes play with me, although he doesn't do much besides hide and seek. He also helps out mom with the groceries whenever she's busy, and he fixes most of the things inside the house.

With the rest of his free time, he would do all sorts of things. From reading books, meditating and even going to a cinema alone.... And I'm not going to let this blondie forget that I'm his daughter! He has to take me!

______________

"I'm heading out for a while, Katherine. I'm going to go watch a show with my friends, and maybe drink a little bit."

"Just don't get too drunk, I don't want to have to drag you back home again."

"I get it, I get it, it won't happen again! Anyway, take care."

"Take care, honey."

And right as he is about to head out of the front door, I crawled up to him and pulled on his pants.

"Papa! Are you going out?"

"Yes. Don't get too lonely when dad's gone alright?"

"Bring me!"

"Huh?"

"Bring me!"

"Well... It's not convenient you know? Besides-"

"Bring! Me!"

"Umm... Save me, Katherine!"

"Why don't you just bring Kyrie with you as well? Go and flaunt your cute daughter to your friends."

"Well..."

"Bring! Me!"

"Urgh... It's going to be full of weird and perverted old men you know?"

"Who would dare to even lay their hands on the child of the Captain of the Guards? Just bring her along!"

"Argh, fine! You two always gives me the worst headache ever, I swear..."

"Yay!"

"Kyrie, just don't run off on your own and stick with your father, understood? If you don't, I'll spank your butt."

"Okay!"

"Good girl, I'm sure she'll behave."

"Alright... Come here, little princess." Dad said as he lifts me up and puts me on his shoulder.

"I'm going to show you lots of different places and also the most popular drama in the country reenacted inside the theaters!"

"Yay!"

Almost every night, dad would read me bed time stories. He would read books to me in my room, with only a dim light from a candle. Well, they are actually just fairy tales.

"-she would face off in the decisive battle against the Supreme Demon King and kill him with her strongest magic, a mysterious spell that nobody knows about. In the end, the Strongest Archdemon is killed and the title of Magic Pioneer which is originally the demon king's would be granted to her."

"Strong lady!"

"Indeed she is the strongest human in the world, said to be able to destroy countries by herself if she so desires. But enough stories for you, it's way past your bed time."

"Eh? But Kyrie wants hear more!"

"Rules are rules, Kyrie. Go to sleep early or else Goblins will come and snatch you away and eat you after grilling you with cheese as toppings!"

"Eekk!"

That is just a fake scream, I'm not scared by fairy tales at all. Everyone knows that these stories are created just to scare childrens into obeying their parents.

"Good night, Kyrie."

"Mmm!" I still don't know how to speak in sentences so usually I can only reply with simple words like 'Ok' or 'Mmm' to my parents.

Father blew out the candle and went back to his room where he do 'wrestling' with mom. I can tell because I have heard their noises through this thin wooden wall. Since they are my parents I only feel weirded out by it, I try my best to ignore it by covering my ears evey time it happens.

_______________

I was born in the early spring, and 9 months have passed since last year when I turned 1.... Winter comes, and soldiers that are normally outside the city comes marching back to live here until the winter is gone.

The weather of this country is unusually cold. With climate similar to places like Austria or Germany, I really started to question whether or not I truly live in France or not....

It gets freezing during winter, enough to feel cold even when I'm wearing a coat inside the house with a warm fireplace. It's safe to assume that the average temperature outside during winter is below freezing point.

I have to use a really thick blanket even when wearing a winter coat if I want to sleep without becoming an icicle... it's no wonder the soldiers have to march back here during winter.

Other than that, things seem to go just like usual. I was able to crawl now that I'm 1 year and 9 months old. Relearning how to walk is simple, I just needed the muscle to be able to hold my body up properly.

Besides walking, I am also learning about this new language called 'Ataraxian'.

"You see Kyrie, we live in a country called Ataraxia. The language that we are speaking is called Ataraxian."

"Atarasian?"

"No, it's pronounced Ataraxian with a sharper emphasis on the 'X' alphabet. It's also called the Northern Language, and it is the most common language spoken on our Continent."

"Mmm."

My lessons with mom gave me many important information about where I lived, which I assume is up North since our language is literally called the Northern Language.... My guess it that I likely live somewhere in Northern Europe, close to places like Poland or Denmark.

______________

After about 3 months, the winter ended once again and the soldiers marched out of the city. This means I am now two years old. I can talk slightly more as I now understand the grammar structure and has more vocabularies to choose from, thanks to my mother's lessons. Surprisingly, this language's grammar is rather similar to English.

Besides that my voice sounds soft and smooth, which I actually don't dislike. Though not that much different from a boy of the same age, my voice is still one that you'd easily recognize as a children girl's voice.

Aside from that, now I can also stand up and don't have to crawl around on the floor. I want to explore the second floor, but I was afraid that mom or dad might get angry. After all, I have never been in any other rooms besides my room, which is just a normal room.

Normally, dad or mom need to carry me upstairs to my room since I can't even climb the stairs. But now that I can walk, I can also climb the stairs by myself!

On the coming weekend morning, when mom is busy making breakfast and dad is out by the lawn practicing sword techniques, I found to courage to do exactly that.

After managing to climb the stairs and enter the second floor's hallway I decided to explore each room. Each sides of the hallway has 2 rooms and there are 4 rooms. The first room on the left is an empty room and the second room on the left is mom's and dad's room. The first on the right is a storage room and the second one is my room.

Inside the the storage room, there are shelves and wooden chests that stores medicines and materials for making medicines. There, I found a weird chest and I decided to see what's inside.

"Mmm!..." I groaned as I struggled to lift the chest's cover up.

And... there's a problem. I'm not tall enough to lift it high enough to fully open it... How should I solve this huh?... Ah, I can just open it from the inside since I can fit into it anyway.

I raised my leg and climbed into the chest. As my body drop right into the chest, the chest's lid closes and it quickly became really dark.

I stood up from my place and then...

'Thonk!...' The chest's lid was pushed completely open.

I finally climbed out of the chest and decided to check out what's inside.

There's a stack of books, and top most one reads 'The battle of Creimland' which is a story about a fight between a heroine mage and a demon lord. Specifically, this book is the one that Thomas reads to me almost every night.

So it's just nursery rhymes huh? Guess there's nothing much to see her- hmm? Sitting next to it is a book with the title 'Basic Magic Textbook'. Magic huh? Interesting...

I decided to give it a read right now just for fun. Magic doesn't exist in the real world, so this book might just be something to trick kids to learn to read letters. I flipped open the pages and read the book half jokingly.

'Read', or so I said... Except the fact is that I only understood about half of the words written here. But there's one sentence that I can read out, and it caught my eyes.

Spell Name : Ember

Chant : Oh Lord of the light, bring forth warm and light upon this world and ignite this, Ember.

A chant? Isn't this just a book that pleases children's imagination? Well whatever, kids my age do sometimes play like that too and I have nothing to do anyway.

"Oh Lord of the light, bring forth warm and light upon this world and ignite this..... what was the name again? "

I looked at the book that laid on the ground for the answer. It's ember.

"...Ember!"

As soon as I finished saying that, I felt heat gushing from my spine towards my arm as a light blue light forms on my index finger.

"Eh?..."

The blue light comes from a crest that manifested out of thin air in front of my index finger...

"...Eh?!"

As I got surprised by the magic crest forming at my fingertips, the crests suddenly shattered and vanished into thin air. What was left in its place was a small fire.

"Uah!"

I instinctively backed away from the fire and bumped into a shelf behind me. The fire disappears as bottles of medicines fell on my head, and making loud sounds of glass shattering as it hit the floor. Luckily none of the glass shards pierced me.

One of the bottle that fell on my head hit me so hard that it left a sharp stinging pain on my head.

"Ouch!!"

"Kyrie?!" Mom yelled my name from downstairs.

Loud footsteps could be heard running up the stairs and finally reaching the storage room.

Ah I really messed up this time!... I'm definitely gonna be slapped and yelled at!

"Hah!!..." Mom grasped as soon as she sees me.

Oh? Something wet dripped down on my forehead. I touched the liquid with my finger and looked at it... It was blood.

"Kyrielle!"

Mom walked carefully over the glass shards and carried me up. Then hurried downstairs to the counter where she works on.

Ghyse, while clearing the counter to make space, asked mom out of curiosity.

"Madam! What happened?"

Mom sat me on the counter before she turned around to answer Ghyse.

"Kyrie was playing in the storage room and knocked down some potions which hurt her head. It's fine, I can heal her head. "

"I see...."

What do you mean potions? I thought they were medicines! And healing me? Does she knows magic that can heal people?

As I was thinking about that, mom had put her hand on my forehead and then chanted....

"Oh graceful one, grant nourishing force to the ones who have lost their strength and let them rise from their injuries. Healing!"

Golden lights and particles emits from her hand and onto my head. It feels oddly warm and nice as the open wound on my head closes. No stinging sharp pain was felt on my head now.

"There, feel better now Kyrie?"

"Mmm..."

"Be careful next time when you are playing! Accidents like this happen because you are too careless!"

"...Okay..."

"Sigh..."

I was surprised when mom hugged and kissed me on the forehead.

'Smooch!'

"....Just be more careful next time alright? Remember this pain well so that you will not make the same mistake again."

"Mmn..."

She patted my head before she carried me to my room to let me play there. She went to the storage room to clean up all my mess...

Dumb founded from the events that happened so quickly, I only sat on my bed to process what happened.

From the thin wooden walls, I could hear Ghyse and Mom talking.

"I can't believe that Kyrielle didn't cry even when her head is bleeding...."

"Well, she is a strong girl because of my genes afterall! And I healed her wounds, so it's alright. "

"I don't think that your genetics have any thing to do with Kyrielle but, I see... "

Well, I guess it really is weird for a kid at 2 to not cry even while bleeding, not to mention that I can use the toilet without supervision after being taught just once. Maybe I should act more like a child to avoid suspicions?

Still, I can't believe mom didn't hit me and only scolded me for hurting myself... Maybe because this is an accident she let me off the hook easily....

(5 hours later)

"Honey you won't believe what happened to Kyrie today! She went and-"

Blah blah blah, we can skip it.

"Don't worry honey, as long as you are here I can rest assured knowing that you can cast healing magic on our daughter if an accident ever happens!"

Dad tries to act cool at mom. I expected more from mom but....

"Kyaa!! You are such a sweet talker, I love it!"

She leaned over and hugged dad's shoulder. Dad could only smile awkwardly as she did so.

Geez, flirting in front of their kid like that...

After dinner, I lied down on my bed in my room.

"But still, to think that magic actually exists here in this world...."

It is very apparent that this is not actually a middle age Earth, or even Earth at all. There's no magic back on earth, this world can't be the same.

That's why there's so much epic tales and magic trickery things here and there.... I thought that those were just fairy tales used to trick kids into obeying them, but to think that those stories are real is a bit crazy.

Wait, does that mean those goblins would take a little girl like me back to their nest and cook me with cheese?! I shuddered at that thought... Maybe I really should go to sleep early.

Still, I have reincarnated into another world entirely.... How come I have never thought of this? I have already reincarnated with my memory intact, so it's not out of place that I am reincarnated into a world of magic, so to speak...

This meant that maybe the fairy tales aren't just tales at all but rather real and accurate history of this world... That book which I saw today, the 'Battle of Creimland', maybe I will give it a read tomorrow. I'm interested in the history of this world.

Hmm... My mind is getting slower.... I feel tired from everything that.... has happened today....

"Zzz...."
