Deja-Vu

Luo Yi took a deep breath and exhaled.

Top building.

Looked like she had to use the emergency stairs to reach the top. She doubted there were any lifts still functioning right now. She ran up the emergency stairs, all the while hoping to not run into the bald vampire. She just wanted to drag Won Shik's ass down and hand him to Luca and be done with it, but normally her plan never went accordingly.

Approaching the highest floor, she bragged through the emergency door and was met with different sights. She was amazed by how different it was from the other floor below. It was clean and well kept.

Beyond the emergency door, she stood, there was a huge reception area with a huge circular desk in the center, a place where receptionists usually stood to welcome employees, visitors, and service staff. There were seats and small tables for visitors to sit and rest.

The place looked like it was decorated with detailed and well-finished architectural features that enhanced the entire receptionist area. The floors were tiled with golden marble, a contrast to the other floor below.

Large windows surrounded the entire place. The gentle moonlight that gleamed brightly seemed so close to the windows. Luo Yi wondered whether this place used to be crowded had there been no apocalypse.

Luo Yi walked and admired the entire place. The one who created this place put their thoughts into it. Recalling that she wasn't here to admire these magnificent views, she started looking for anything suspicious. From where she stood, she could briefly smelt fresh blood. It was distinct, but it was there.

Guided by her nose, she trailed after the smell. She walked past the circular desk and on the right side, there was another hallway. Movements above caught her eyes. Craning her neck, she noticed a blinking sign hung up above. The c and f from the word conference room kept blinking on and off as if the circuit inside it was on verge of snapping. She stared at it, mystified.

There, across the hallway, was a huge but dilapidated wooden door. A raider stood guard in front of it. He stood in front of the wooden door, daydreaming as his eyes were as dazed as ever and Luo Yi had stood at the opposite hallway across him. He blinked once, then twice before shaking his head, more likely startled to see a vampire girl across him.

Too bad for him, Luo Yi had prepared herself to lung at him, however, something unexpected happened. The wooden door he was guarding before burst open and dislodged from the frame, knocking the raider unconscious. On top of the knocked down door, a certain baldy vampire struggled to get up.

He was groaning in pain. The wooden door was crushed under his weight, moreover the raider underneath it. Several wood chips that had splintered from the door stuck to his shoulder and blood dripped from it.

Luo Yi quickly leaped over and hid under the circular desk, holding her non-existent breath.

"Know your place, Lucifer."

Someone advised.

'Lucifer? That must be the bald vampire,' she thought to herself. She squeezed herself smaller to avoid getting caught.

She heard Lucifer cursed under his breath and another set of footsteps clip-clopped down the golden marble tiles. A woman? But the speaker sounded like a man, he must have been wearing something like cowboy boots or dress shoes to create footsteps like that.

As the clattering noises came to a halt, directly in front of the circular desk she was hiding under, Luo Yi panicked silently. She could feel stares penetrating the circular receptionist desk she was hiding under. The one standing behind her had yet to say anything either and it unnerved her.

'Had she been found out?'

"Oh, and one day, as promised."

That said, the footsteps continued walking until it disappeared completely. Luo Yi let out a sigh of relief.

"Fucking dog! One day… I am going to rip you apart with my bare hands!" Lucifer snarled. "Just you wait!"

Luo Yi poked her head out of her hiding spot, saw Lucifer standing up, and shrugged his shoulders, plucking the wooden chips that had embedded in his body off. He straightened his dirty lab coat and headed back inside.

Luo Yi closed her eye and strained her ears to hear anything.

Jingles of keys.

Metal clashed.

A whimper.

"Do me a favor, would cha?"

She heard Lucifer speak softly. His tone kept getting softer and softer until it became hushed and Luo Yi cursed. Why couldn't he just screamed it out?

Suddenly, everything stilled. There weren't any voices, no movements. It was too quiet and the atmosphere was tense.

"Luo Yi?"

Luo Yi's eye widened a fraction. What?

"Are you there?"

Luo Yi cursed. What the hell was this vampire playing at?

"P— Please save me," She listened more.

It was definitely Won Shik. She had been found out since the beginning and here she stupidly thought she could hide. However, if she showed herself now, she wasn't sure she was able to fight head-on with this vampire. He was just too powerful for her.

"Luo Yi, please," Hearing that pleading tone, her bleeding heart just couldn't take it.

"Fuck it," Luo Yi cursed under her breath. She reached for her sword, wounding her palm on the hilt, she slid it out of the scabbard. Slowly, she stood up from her hiding place and came face to face with Won Shik who stood under the blinking sign.

Lucifer was nowhere to be found, but Luo Yi was a hundred percent sure he was still here, waiting and baiting her.

Won Shik's face lit up when he saw her. He wobbled forward, reaching his arms out, as if it would reach her faster if he did that. Before he could take a few steps toward her, he was suddenly pushed forward.

Blood blossomed on his chest as a pointed stake penetrated the left side of his chest, skewering him. Luo Yi saw his eyes widen and more blood burst out of his mouth. Lucifer had thrown a pointed stake at him.

Another deja-vu washed over her.
