1 Pain of yesterday

He tries to move his hand but the heavy chain that tied his hands to the end of the bed, doesn't allow it. He screams when he feels a stingy pain on his neck, probably due to a needle penetrating his skin. He struggles again but his effort only last for a few seconds.

He feels hands holding his legs and position it back on the bed. He doesn't have any strength more to move his legs away so he let it be. He then feels a hand opens the cloth he been wearing and soon he feels something cold wiping his bare abdomen.

"Scalpel." He hear a voice says but he couldn't stay awake before that extremely sharp metal come in contact with his skin.

PAIN OF YESTERDAY

"Sunggyu! Come here right now." He heard a familiar voice called out for him.

He turned around and saw three guys waiting for him under a shady tree. One of them moving his finger indicating him to come to them. He gawked his lower lip as he walked toward them. He knew what they wanted. They were in higher rank than him so whatever they asked from him, he just need to obey.

"We'll join the next hunting tomorrow and I don't want you to be there with us, understand?" The leader of the three spoke harshly at him.

"But the alpha said that..." He wanted to defend his right by reminded them about what the leader of the pack had said earlier but his action only earned him a punch right, on his jaw.

"I know that. You don't need to act smart..." The guy that punched him stopped talking as his friend stopped him.

"Don't waste your energy on him. Let's get straight to the point... we want you to make an excuse so that we don't have to see your face tomorrow." The other said before he walked away, make the other two quickly followed afterward.

He hated how they treated him, make him felt like he was not more than a trash in that pack. He turned around and slowly, he changed into his wolf form. He then ran into the forest, the place where he really belongs to. He rarely hang out with other wolves since he will got bullied by most of them.

That was his duty for that pack, as an omega, he needed to be submissive and accepted the harsh treatment he got from the higher ranked wolves. The alpha and betas from his pack did not have time to bully him but the mid-ranked wolves surely free enough to play him.

His ginger brown colored fur waved smoothly as the wind blown. He stop running when he reached the emerald lake. He breathed in the calming breeze there as the sun bathing him with its light. He knew it was dangerous for him to keep on coming there. But he could not help it, he needed some stress reliever from his stressful life. His problems were such a pain in the ass and only the beauty of that lake distracted him enough from them.

Like a painkiller.

He lost track of time whenever he was there. He was lying on the green grass, gazing the lovely sky when something approached him.

"I know you'll be here." A female voice shocked him awake and he quickly stood, eyes looked down at his foots as she walked closer to him.

"Why don't you acted like a normal wolf, Sunggyu. Don't be social inept and start to be friend with other." She said again and settle down on the grass where Sunggyu lied just now.

Sunggyu didn't answer her back, he couldn't. It was awkward for him to speak with her again after too long they have not seen each other. She was a beta for their pack. And not just any ordinary beta, she was the top three in their pack. she got the highest mark in every test. Plus, she was getting prettier from time to time and it was easier for pretty female beta like her to be the female alpha. She just need to be mated with the male alpha.

Sunggyu felt small compared to her and that make him uncomfortable to speak with her now even though she actually his older sister.

"I can't. I'm not like you." He said lowly while staring at the scenery in front of him.

"I know it was hard for you. But if you try your best, you can change your rank in the next test. You can do it, bro." She said, encouraging him.

He thought what she said, but that was all nonsense. The rank in their pack can changed every month. They got their rank based from the elders' and the alpha's judgment on them. There were a few betas and omegas while the rest automatically got middle rank. The omega was the lowest and the beta was the highest rank for teen like them. He knew his strength and where he can scored more, it was on hunting. Even he was a male, he had an amazing skill to harass their prey like the female wolf could done and his fur help him the most during camouflaged especially when it was autumn.

But it was impossible for him to show his strength if the others wolves kept sabotaged him here and there. After he got baskets of praises from his second time hunting, some of the mid-ranked wolves broke his leg and many other thing to keep him away from hunting test. But lately, they give him choice to make some excuses and willingly absence from that test if he didn't want to be hurt.

"I think I had to go. I still have some practice to do. I'll see you in next hunting test. Bye." She said before she left.

He send her away with a glance until she completely disappeared from his sight. He also practiced on his own at times like that but after her visit, he just didn't feel like training anymore. He suddenly remember why he became an omega at the first place. It was his sister just now, Jieun. She was the one who caused it. She was stressed by that time because she was a female omega while he was a middle ranking wolf. She was smaller compared to her peer. Then one day, she vent her anger at him in front of some other middle ranking male wolves.

He just wanted to help her.

That make them thought that he was an easy target which make them put the omega status on him even when that time, he still a middle ranked wolf. She then became the middle ranking wolf after that and that make it easier for her to upgraded her status to beta as she no longer harassed by the other wolves.

He did not blame her as she also didn't expect the outcome of her action. Plus, what done cannot be undone. What he can do was try harder to improve his status, but it kind of impossible for him since the ex male omega kept on disturbing him to make sure he will never can got over the other.

He stayed like that for another good minutes, reminiscence about his childhood where nobody needed to worry about their future and their status. After he got enough resting, he began his training. He changed back into his wolf form and he ran through the forest, avoiding the trees in high speed. He had been running through that forest for a very long time.

He had mastered the way and his instinct got better when he was in the forest. He then heard the rustling sound of dried leaves not far away from him. He stop running and focused on that sound. By the scent in the air, he can guessed that it was a deer. He kept his focus and traced the position of that deer.

Another rustling sound heard which gave him a hint to where the deer was. He rushed to where he heard it the and appeared out of nowhere make that deer trapped between him and a big stone behind it. He tried to get closer to his prey while kept blocking his prey from ran through him. He managed to cut some distance between them but when he was closed enough with his prey, something came to his mind.

'What's the point of hunting?' he asked himself at that very crucial moment.

His mistake make him lose his prey when the deer suddenly sprint through his opened left side. He usually will catch his escaped prey but not that day. He didn't motivated enough to continue his training. He let the deer escaped. He changed back into his human form as he kept on staring at the running deer.

"You let it escaped on purpose?" A deep and husky voice asked.

He jumped a little before he turned to the male who appear out of the blue from god know where. He did not even realized the other presence, not even the other's scent since his mind were too occupied. He eyed that male from toe, his eyes moved upward from the other's bare and hairy calves then up to his tights that only covered with a shorts.

Slowly he scanned the details of the other's toned six packs abs then up to his broad chest, before he stare at the other's sexy collarbones and biceps. When he finally looked up to the other's prominent jaw, sharp nose and dark brown eyes, he became aware of the other's identity.

"You know it is rude to stare, right?" That raven black haired male said with a proud smile on his lips.

"Nam Woohyun?"

"Sunggyu! Sunggyu are you awake now?" He hears a voice asks in panic.

A heavy sigh left his mouth as he remember what actually had happen. He just dreaming about his past just now. The reality is, he is stuck at this crappy place that he does not even know where and how it looks like since he hast being blindfold all the time. He wants to sit but as he tries, his stomach feels so painful that make him groans and fall back to the floor. His mind is still hazy. He could not remember the details of what had happen before. He still cannot think why he had a wound now.

"What're you doing. Don't try to move. You need to rest." He hears that voice speaks again.

"What had happen?" He asks in difficulty, his voice somehow sounds hoarse and dry –maybe because he hasn't speak for a while?

"You... You tried to escape before. We plan it together with the other two in the next cage, but you didn't succeed. You... you were shot then by someone and... and I didn't saw you for three days... until just now." That voice speaks before he starts sobbing next to him.

He nods his head as he starts remember that. So the humans saved him after they shot him? Maybe because they do not want to lose one of their valuable 'lab rats' because then they need to catch another more. He understand that the other only guessing the period he was gone since he already lost the track of time. Everybody does. They can only guessed the days passed with how many time they had slept.

"I... I'm glad you're still alive. I hadn't see you for three days. I thought you already dead." That voice says, he hears sniffing in between the other's words before he feels the warm and wet muscular organ is back on his stomach again, licking his wound.

Sungjong, if he not mistaken is the name of the other wolf who is caged together with him. There are another two in the next cage name Dongwoo and Howon. They had plan an escape together but nobody dare to play the finishing role, the one who needed to run out from that place. Because that role carried the highest risk of being caught. And since he is the oldest of the four, he volunteered to do that. The cage door then being opens by a human and Sungjong being dragged away.

He know what they want with Sungjong this time.

The human is studying about werewolves' ability so they might force Sungjong to run in a space that supposed to be forest. Well, he does not really sure about the space they were using since he was blindfolded when he done that. He had tried to open his blindfold before but he did not know how. The blindfold is secured by three belt like restraint; one connected at the back of his head, one around his head and another one under his chin with a lock that connected it.

He fall asleep again while he is waiting for Sungjong to come back. He is awakened by the loud thud and a groan next to him. He calls out for Sungjong after he sense the other's scent. Sungjong go to him and asks him to sleep back before licks his wound again. They do not realize that they are being watched until they hear the sound of the cage door being closed. The human that send Sungjong into his cage closes the door after about half an hour after he send Sungjong so that means he must be standing at the door, watching what they were doing in between that time.

Few days, probably, has passes by but no one ever come to take him out. The human comes only for Sungjong and when Sungjong is back, the human stops the other from licking his wound. He spend all his time lying there on the floor until he feels his back hurt for lying for so long. His wound is still hurt but lately, the pain gradually increase. His wound feels sore and day after day, his wound smells and he starts sweating despite the coldness he feels down to his bones.

When the human that brings for him some food comes, he could not eat his meals. That is when, the humans realize that his wound are infected. The humans bring him to somewhere else but he already weak by that time to struggle away from them. His head is dizzy and the wound on his abdomen already swells and hardens. He falls asleep again as soon as they lie him down on a bed.

"Why did you do that?" He asked finally after he had gathered all his courage.

"Well... I just... Well it was their fault. They can't do that to you." Woohyun replied, half-whining.

"They can. I'm an omega, remember. And they're in middle ranking." He spoke lowly which make Woohyun looked at him straight into his eye.

Woohyun had been talking with him ever since their first encounter in the woods. But the other didn't know what he had been through back in their pack. So when the middle ranked wolves asked him to run some errands for them, he had to comply. And when Woohyun saw that, he had the middle ranked wolves did the same. But their client wasn't just Woohyun, it was the whole school.

"You said that. So it's mean that I can do that too. I'm a beta, Sunggyu. But how do they sleep at night when they..." Woohyun could not finish his words, too angry to continue complaining but some of Woohyun's words stabbed his heart.

"You shouldn't hang out with me." He said to the raven black haired guy beside him.

"Why shouldn't I?" That male asked dumbly.

He stopped walking when he heard that. How can the other asked a dumb question like that? The other wasn't any beta here, he was the alpha's son and everyone thought the same with him, that one day the other will be the next alpha. He was no match with the other's status.

"C'mon. Don't be so grumpy, Gyu. You don't have to care about what others' said." That male said and grab him by his shoulder before dragged him together.

They stopped when they reached the emerald lake. Since the first day they spoke to each other, they had started to hang out together and that lake became their secret place. Well, not a secret to Jieun because sometime she was there with them but most of the time, it was only two of them. "Hey, I heard some people talking about you. I mean, your hunting skill and... and I'm curious why didn't you go hunting with us anymore?" The other suddenly asked in between the blows of wind.

He opened his eyes that he closed shortly before to enjoyed the breeze when he heard the other's question. Of course the other already knew his status, but the other did not knew about the sabotage things.

"Why did you asked?" He avoided answering the other's question.

"Because I'm curious. I heard that you're amazing but I never saw it. The day we spoke, you let your prey went away." Woohyun said with a pout.

"You want to watch me hunting?" He asked in disbelieve and Woohyun nodded his head eagerly.

"How about we go hunting now?" Woohyun asked again while his hands were on the top of Sunggyu's shoulders.

He did not managed to reply as the other already changed into his wolf form and ran into the forest. He quickly followed afterward, changing into his wolf form and chased the other. They stopped in the middle of the forest due to Woohyun abrupt stop.

"Why?" He asked when he saw Woohyun brushed his cheek on the ground.

"A trick my father taught me. You try it too. It will help you hide your scent and make your presence almost unnoticeable." Woohyun commanded and he obeyed the other.

He lowered his head and slowly he rubbed his cheek to the grass. He then turn his face to the opposite side to rub his other cheek. He then eyed Woohyun who was rubbing his body to the bushes. Then the other swing his tail and rubbed it to the tree there. He copied each of Woohyun's action deligently.

"So that's why I can't smell your scent when I was hunting before?" He asked as they began to walk.

Woohyun nodded and smile stupidly at him. They then went hunting together and thanked to their perfect combination, the caught a deer in a short time. He harassed their prey and captured its attention while Woohyun using his strength to catch it when it busied with Sunggyu.

They eat their meal together too which make Sunggyu touched because an omega cannot eat together or to be precise, he was the one who ate the last. If the alpha was there during their hunt, the alpha will eat the first and betas can joined too but for mid-ranked wolves, they need to wait for the alpha to finished.

And lastly the omega will ate after all the mid-ranked wolves finished.

That's how suck was being an omega.

They stay for a bit longer, having a good chat for awhile after the meal before they went to their village at nightfall, went to their own hut after promised each other to meet again at the lake tomorrow.

However, Woohyun did not come the next day.

And he still did not come the day after the next day, and the following next day.

Sunggyu did not went for hunting for three days since he been waiting for Woohyun to come at the lake. he watched in silence the dried leaves fell from their branches. The autumn wind that softly blown against his skin bring the chills to his spine. The outstanding scenery he witnessed however brought the lonely feeling to his heart. Was mother nature tried to look down on him?

He changed form into a wolf and ran into the forest. Avoiding the way he used when he was with Woohyun. He should knew his place, someone like him can never be friend with someone like Woohyun. He ran blindly, totally speeding but somehow, a strong and pleasant scent halted him. He slowed down and search for the source of that scent. Then he found something moved behind a big stone, something furry and black. It was moving up down like a shaking stone. But by the scent alone, he could guess who did it belong to.

"Woo –Woohyun is that you?" He asked as he moved closer and got a better sight of it.

"Sunggyu?" He heard a hoarse, deep and husky voice of Woohyun asked.

"Yes, it's me. Are you... are you okay? Why didn't you came at the lake anymore?" He blatantly asked which make him wondered to himself when did he became so brave like that, but he really could not think straight that time due to the pleasant scent that abusing his nostrils.

He only stepped a few times before he stopped as he heard footsteps behind him. Maybe Woohyun had something to say to him. But before he could turn around, he felt something heavy topped him harshly. He fell to the ground with his front legs under his head. He tried to stand but then a bite landed on his neck, make him stopped everything he was doing, including thinking and breathing.

It is their latest drug.

He knew it all the mid-ranked wolves did not like it if he joined the hunting test that month but he needed to talk with Woohyun. He wanted to hear the other's explanation about his weird behavior. He still wanted to be friend with Woohyun. He cannot let the other went away just like that. He thought he still could fixed their friendship. So he endure all the bad treatment he received, he be at pains to come to the hunting test that time but Woohyun ignored him all the time during the test.

"Ya, are you deaf? Stop daydreaming when my foot is near with your face." The earlier guy spoke again.

He looked at his bullies with in different look, he should be scared of them but he didn't have enought time for that. Then he saw Woohyun passed by with his gang. He pushed that blonde guy's leg and make his way towards Woohyun. He knew Woohyun will acted like the other did not see him so he moved in front of the other, blocking his way. He did not know that he had so much braveness inside of him to acted that way. His action gained attention from all of them there.

"We... we need to talk." He said out loud but Woohyun didn't t reply as he walked passed him.

"What's wrong with you? Why did you..." Sunggyu shouts but he stopped mid sentence.

"And what exactly he had done to you?" One of the guy asked as he became frustrated with Sunggyu wasted effort to talk to Woohyun.

"In the forest." Sunggyu said and that make Woohyun stopped and turned to him.

"Why did you... do that... you... you do that to me... before?" He struggled with his tongue to make an understandable sentence but he failed miserably as his face blushed when he remembered that day.

"I'm a beta and you're? If I'm not wrong, an omega aren't you?" Woohyun said while glaring at him.

Woohyun turned his back to him and called for his gang to go after he saw Sunggyu's speechless state. Even his bullies went away and he was all alone by himself in a split of second. Everyone has gone to their practice and like always, he went to the forest, did not bother to changed into a wolf that time. His mind was too hazy by what Woohyun said to him.

Damn it!

A loner like him should known his place. He has no right to dream. How dare of him to even hoping. It was painful, too painful for him to has the truth being spit right on his face. He felt angry suddenly, not to anybody other than himself. He was a fool to being fooled like that. His stepped quicker than earlier and suddenly he was running. He changed into a wolf during his ran and kept on speeding. He was fuming as he passed the lake and continued on running.

"Sunggyu! Kim Sunggyu. Stop! Where are you going?" He heard his sister's voice calling out for him but she was no match for him to chase after him for more than a few seconds.

Everyone loves to see him suffer. They never treat him like he actually has heart, and a goddamn feeling. He is a fucking werewolves too. He is part human and part wolf. But he never belongs to any of them. Not to human and also not to the werewolves. His very existence is just to be used by everybody. No one will ever sincere to be friend with him, no one will love him. Even his own sister, his own blood, the one who was fated and born with him abandoned him and used him to get higher. He is the lowest of the lowest part in the food chain, always being eaten by.

There suddenly a big explosion inside his mind. He fall into an absolute darkness and he stay in there. Why would he go out when there is nobody needs him. Screaming starts to be heard as the fire alarms keeps on ringing. His world is rapidly falling apart. Then some crushing sound and another explosion could be heard as suddenly gunshots constantly abusing his hearing. A combined voices maybe belong to a group of people keep on screaming also could be heard.

Then more crushing sound until a voice of a male is heard. It is Sungjong's voice, asking him something but it is too slow that he almost miss it. His head feels heavier as time passes and he growls whenever he feels the throbbing in his brain. Then he heard sound of metal being shaken and there it is again, the throbbing pain. He is mad. He wants to destroys everything. Everything should perish. This world is rubbish. He growls and shouts his heart out. He is beyond mad now.

But then a wave of sadness rushes in his mind. A feeling he doesnt want to feel again. But he smells something so nostalgic that it pains him more than any drugs from the humans. It is the scent of his one and only friend, Woohyun. Why does he need to remember the other? Again he fall into another dark abyss.
