Dead Body In The Fields

+16th Century, 1563. The Ceva Kingdom. The Derfir Village.

Thump!

Thump!

Thump!

The sound of a heart throbbing blood at its regular calm rate was everything the seven-year-old true blood could hear while comfortably resting his head on that wide chest that was filled with love, affection, and safety for him.

A hand was carefully stroking his thick black hair and all the way down to his shoulder whilst he was closing his eyes and listening to his father who was reading a children's story for him because he asked for it earlier.

Reading stories for Magnus became an important daily activity in Alfred's life. Rosaline sometimes replaces Alfred and reads stories instead of him for Magnus when her mate has to go to the fields.

"The prince found the hidden secret in the end." Uttered Alfred as he closed the book and placed it on the table beside the bed before looking down at his son who was resting in his embrace saying " Next year, you will start going to school and you will be able to read any book you want just like you desire. Are you happy with this, sweetheart?"

The little true blood nodded excitedly and before he could talk the door of the room was opened by Rosaline who had a wide grin on her face while walking toward them. " Have you finished the story?"

Alfred furrowed his eyebrows in confusion looking at what his wife was wearing. She was wearing the ragged clothes which they usually wear in order to go work in the fields " Rosa, why are wearing these clothes?"

"I'm going to work today." When she said this he glanced at his son who was very close to falling asleep on his chest before looking back at his wife who was caressing her son's hair and said " But it's my turn today, honey. You need to take a rest, Rosa. You have worked for three days in a row while I stayed in the house doing nothing. I feel bad about this because I hate seeing you tired without doing anything to help you."

Rosa stopped fondling her son's hair and looked at her mate with the same smile on her face saying " I know, but look Magnus is sleeping. If you move he will wake up. Just stay with him and I will go today then you can work the next day. Okay?"

Alfred hates to admit that what Rosa has just said was right because their son wakes up easily when someone moves his pillow or adjusts his sleeping position and if he wakes up he won't be able to sleep again which is why he just nodded "Okay, but please don't work too hard."

When Rosa heard him she hummed and was about to leave but he quickly grabbed her hand tightly stopping her from getting up and this is why she asked him "What is it?"

He remained silent for some time and kept looking at her face as if he has something to say but doesn't know the proper way to say it " I just… I don't know. I don't feel good. I don't know what's going on. There is something here in my heart that hurts."

Rosa was so confused while hearing what her husband was saying since he himself didn't even know what he was saying and feeling but she just smiled thinking that he just doesn't want her to get tired like he does every day to stop her from going to the fields.

She scooted closer and pecked his lips uttering " It's okay, honey. I'm just going to the field like any other day and as I always do. You don't need to worry. You have a strong mate."

They both chuckled while their lips were still touching " I know I have the strongest and the best mate of all time. I love you." He kissed her when he finished talking.

Although that odd feeling in his heart has not vanished yet he didn't want to say no to his mate.

She gave him and Magnus one last kiss for each of them before leaving the house and going with the women and men of the village to the fields to work together.

Alfred slowly fell asleep since silence was the only sound that surrounded him and his sleeping seven-year-old son.

But after some hours, he woke up because of the loud knocking on the door which made him carefully push his son to the center of the bed and cover him with the blanket, and ran to the door immediately without noticing the little true blood who woke up too.

When he opened the door he found two female omegas crying and looking at him. These omegas were his wife's friends which is why he got worried " Hey, are you guys okay? Do you need help or anything?"

"Alfred, we found dead bodies in the fields. All the people that went to work today. They were all dead there. Rosa was one of them."

The kiss that she gave him earlier before she left turned out to be an actual last kiss.
