30 Overwatch Material

I was still mopping about in my thoughts while everyone celebrated when Sojourns second in command approached me.

There was a debriefing that was going to happen between the operatives of Overwatch and the CANSOFCOM.

As we're walking to the room, an announcement comes from the intercom with an unknown voice.

"Just want to thank the wonderful soldiers of Overwatch and CANSOFCOM for bravery today. Including our own, 117 total lives were saved today."

Cheering can be heard from across the ship at this news.

He begins to say something else but we reach the room and his voice trails off as I scan the room at the major figures in the room.

My eyes settled on someone I forgot was here that I've met before.

"Hello Dr. Liao."

She looks at me in confusion, and I press the side of my mask to reveal my face.

Her eyes light up with recognition as she asks in disbelief.

"Shawn Rose?"

Everyone looks between the two of us.

"Have you met him before?" Jack asks Dr. Liao.

"Well yes. I went to him for advice on my Aurora project and he provided some wonderful insights." Mina explains.

"Oh great, another expert on Omnics." Torbjorn mutter, which causes me to smile at his hypocrisy.

"Shawn Rose, adopted son of Garcia Rose, former President of the California branch of Omnica Corporation. Deemed a genius at the age of 8 and worked through a contract with the government.

Apparently he has an invitation to Overwatch by General Carver."

I look over at the screen to see Gabriel providing everyone with my information.

Leave it to the future Blackwatch leader to gather his intel.

"Hmm, at least you were telling the truth. I don't mind having another hand against this Omnic menace." Jack says to himself.

"Well I'd like to know how you can heal like that." Torbjorn says and as he says healing it brings back bad memories of spamming the healing voice line.

Gabriel uses my momentary silence to take charge.

"The government got an assessment of his abilities. He can control electricity. More specifically, bioelectricity and it can extend to outside sources.

He's skilled in marksmanship, hand to hand combat, and well versed in the autonomy of omnics.

Has an Omnic companion named S3bastian who is regarded as a weapon of mass destruction.

Most weapons equipped on him are classified and only Shawn has the code to unleash them.

Well advised to keep them together at all times as S3bastian is a loose cannon."

At those words everyone looks around the room and realizes that S3bastian isn't present.

Everyone has a small panic attack as they scramble about trying to locate him.

Putting back on my mask, I call out. "S3bastian, come in."

I get no response.

I sigh as I say softly, "Supreme Overlord?"

"This is Supreme Overlord, go ahead Alpha Brat."

"What's your location?" I ask.

"Stuck in the hangar. I require your assistance because I am being betrayed by my own kind."

Jack, Dr. Liao, Sojourn and I all rush to the hangar to find S3bastian held in place by a metal clamp next to a scanner.

"The scanner recognized him as an Omnic and wouldn't let him on board." Jack explains.

"The same damn thing happened to me." Sojourn mutters to herself.

"Release me, mortal, and when I become Supreme Overlord, I will guarantee you a spot as my Jester. You look like your dance will amuse me." He says to Jack.

Jack looks at me and I look away unable to meet his gaze.

I hear a beep then the clang on metal as S3bastian drops to the ground.

As we head back to the debriefing room, S3bastian flicks off the scanner and says, "Snitch."

On the way back, Dr. Liao walks alongside Sojourn.

"I can't help but notice your fractured lens. If you want, I could fix it for you."

Neither me or Jack look back but we can clearly hear the conversation but respect her privacy by not adding our opinions.

My hand cackles with electricity as sparks dance from fingertip to fingertip warning S3bastian as he turned around to say something.

Sojourn shakes her head, "No thanks. I'm good."

Making it back to the debriefing room, we see a new face has joined the screens.

Sojourn salutes, "Major Campbell."

He nods, "Captain. I heard about what happened and can only imagine what it would be like if Overwatch hadn't shown up.

I told you this mission was too reckless and yet you still pushed for it."

Sojourn remains quiet, keeping her gaze on the Major, but I can see the shame and guilt in her eyes.

"Nevertheless, well done on both sides for a successful mission.

I've already spoken with the General and you are to rendezvous at the Laurentian Mountain base for your next mission.

However, Bioshock, you are being redirected elsewhere."

At the mention of my name, I looked up at him confused, "What do you mean?"

"You are needed at another location but will regroup with us at a later time." He responded.

"No offense, but I don't take orders from you." I counter.

"Which is why I issued them, kid. I expect you to be on that plane to New York." Gabriel interjects.

I don't try to contest him since if I'm a part of Overwatch, he is my boss.

"This concludes the debriefing, good luck everyone." Major Campbell's image fizzes out along with the others who are joined by video.

Torbjorn jumps up from his chair, "Finally, I get to work on my idea that I got from seeing your shield kid. Before you head out, stop by the armory."

I nod to him as he exits then is approached by Dr. Liao.

"You didn't tell me you had powers, we could have done some exciting experiments." She says.

"I didn't have much control over them at the time, so I would have done more harm than good. What I wanted to do was meet Aurora. I heard about all you've done for her and Omnics. Your work was revolutionary and a necessity. People are wrong to say that you're responsible for the war."

Sadness passes through Dr. Liao's eyes.

"You had to be there to experience Aurora. She was so... pure, so attentive.

She was like a child, learning from everything she interacted with both good and bad.

Even when we were in that court case, fighting for her right to count as an individual with so many verbal assaults coming her way, she remained pure.

Then when... she did it with no hesitation.

She wasn't even human, yet, she was the best of us.

I don't regret it for a single second."

Everyone in the room is quiet as she speaks. Even S3bastian remains quiet as he listens to her words.

She looks around at our faces and wipes the tears from her eyes. "Sorry."

"No, you have every right to feel like you do. There's nothing wrong with waiting to pursue your dreams.

Don't let this war set you back. Don't give up on AI."

She smiles, "If we survive, I'll think about continuing. But it'll be hard with even more restrictions from the government. It was nice meeting you again Shawn."

"You too Dr. Liao."

"Please, call me Mina."

After Mina leaves I approach Jack.

"So, do you know what I'm being redirected?" I ask.

"I do. Before you can go on any missions, your skills need to be evaluated." He explains.

"You saw me in action, couldn't you vouch for me?"

I ask.

"I could, but this is a good lesson for you. You'll learn that being a part of Overwatch is more than just saving people.

You'll learn it's so much more under Gabriel."

I highly doubt that I'll learn anything positive from the future edgelord Reaper.

But, for the sake of this conversation, I simply nod my head to Jack.

Giving Jack a salute, I head to the armory.

On my way there, I think about the future for Jack.

In the game I liked playing as Soldier, who was serious and quiet as he understood the consequences he allowed when he became Strike Commander.

Things he should have addressed but didn't that later went to bite him back.

Namely Blackwatch, but the other things Overwatch did in the name of good, that morally wasn't.

After meeting Jack, he was entirely different from his Soldier 76 persona.

He had a presence that made me want to follow him.

I preferred this Jack over Soldier, and felt sorry for the things he'll have to go through to become the man we know him as.

------------------------------------------

I have a question cause I can't figure this out myself.

I was drawing S3bastian and wondered how many dots I should give him on his forehead.

I did some research and found that those are actually eyes for an Omnic.

I found that Zenyetta, Ramattra, and even Maximillen have 9, which according to the Reddit thread was supposed to represent how spiritually woke an Omnic is.

While the lesser Omnic figures like Ziggy and Lynx have 3.

I'm wondering if this is true and how many I should give S3bastian?
