Chapter 24: E-Rantel (3)

Stepping on the corpses of those she had slain, she walks towards the formation of men who are slowly retreating.

Every forward step she made the men retreat more. It's funny and amusing.

'Hmmm. Should I stay here for a while? Is the [Death Spiral] not working?' She thought the Khajiit guy is using the ritual to summon stronger undead.

'Hmm, Let me have some fun—'

"ROAAAAAR!"

Her thoughts are disrupted the moment the loud hoarse roar resounded the whole street.

She just got goosebumps from that roar alone.

There's no doubt, the [Death Spiral] is working. That's a very very strong undead for sure.

"Hmm~ My time is done here. See ya~" Clementine waved to the people before disappearing in speed.

The roar could be heard even on the top of the building where the ones coordinating the ongoing battle.

"W-What's that?"

"D-Death knight..." Ainzach answered.

"T-T-The L-Legendary undead?!"

The young woman earlier is now out of the picture, she just disappeared. Ainzach himself could not believe what he just said.

But the description fits it. It stands at 2 meters tall with a crooked body. It is equipped with a rippled sword called a Flamberge and a huge shield known as a Tower Shield. Death Knights are looked upon as huge creatures equipped with armor made of black metal with red bloodlines engraved on it.

Moreover, the armor has sharp thorns everywhere and looks like an incarnation of violence. Two demonic horns protrude from the helmet, with the face being visible underneath. It has a disgusting, rotted face whose empty eye sockets are filled with hate and killing intent, glowing with a flashing red light.

'How? This is too fast...' Ainzach thought. If this is just a once in a while occurrence of the undead horde, that's okay.

'This phenomenon is only have been happening in less than 24 hours, why there's a legendary undead here?'

This kind of undead is super rare and said to appear every 100 years. If one would appear every century, then what about 5 years ago when the Baharuth Kingdom encountered one.

Another man then arrived, but Ainzach already what's the news is.

"Guildmaster! There's a strong under—"

"I know it already! Concentrate all the magic casters on that area! Tell Kralgra to not engage without the other Mithril teams!"

Kralgra is one of the four Mithril team about to arrive there, he knows that they are no match for that undead, so better not let them do suicidal charge there.

"Yes!"

[5:20, outskirts of E-Rantel]

"We should have use teleportation Momonga-sama."

'Yep. We should have just done that.' I thought.

I'm kind of maintaining that "authenticity" you know? I did think that it would be cool to ride our horses — golem horses — to the fortress city and arriving heroically.

But who would have thought it would be wack-ass boring, with these silent two with me. The ride feels lonesome.

I then replied to Narberal who is a pace behind me since I am the one leading our team.

"Umu. There's no need for that, we're already close to the city."

"Understood."

I could already see while under my helmet the tall strong walls of the fortress city. Well, It's called a "fortress" for a reason

The sun is already starting to wake up making the view more breathtaking. We continued riding our "horses" on the unmaintained road of this kingdom.

The green plains under the sunrise with the walled city of E-Rantel on a distance is such a beautiful view, I must say.

Besides the beautiful view, there's also a lot of people moving out from the city, many humans are flowing out from the main gate, forming a sort-of caravan and walking on the road.

'This will be MY city soon.' I greedily thought.

I then ordered Narberal and Lupusregina to move our horses away from the road, to not hit the people.

After ordering my golem horse to move away from the road I started remembering the original novels where Ainz control this chunk of territory, strategically placed between the three human nations is kind of enviable.

'What the hell, why am I jealous. Anyway, what's the plan again?' I thought.

I dig my memories trying to remember the paper containing the plans of this operation that I read some days ago. There's no doubt that my monke brain has forgotten it already.

But little bits of it are still there like...

'Arrive at the city hmm... Summoning a Death knight... Eh, a what?' Surprised by my monkeness since I actually plan to change that part of the operation but I just had sex with my wives, I want to change this Death knight-thing since it breaks immersion — I'm just that retarded, really.

'And fighting it would immediately make me an Adama—' My thoughts are then disrupted by a shout.

"Give way! Give way!" Shouted the man that I don't recognize. He seems to be an adventurer.

"Momon-sama, we're here.." Narberal said.

"Oh."

I didn't realize that we're already in front of the main gate of E-Rantel.

"Ha~ It is what it is..." I sighed.

"Hm? Momon-san?~" Lupusregina cutely tilted her head in the response to my mutterings.

'Wolf's ears is really something.' I thought.

"Nothing. Let's go."

We are not the only ones that had arrived, other adventurers also fastly headed here to answer the call of the guild.

The people flowing out the gatehouse gave way to let us enter.

My team and other adventurers then finally arrive inside the city.

"Oy you lot! Come here for briefings! But get off from yer horses first, this is serious business." A person shouted, waving to our group to go there.

"I see. Nabe, leave our horses to the stable."

"Yes, Momon-sama."

After ordering Narberal to leave our horses to the nearby stable of the gatehouse, the other adventurers did the same.

I and Lupusregina already walked towards the man, he gestures to get inside the administrative-looking building.

We entered the first floor of the place, only to be greeted by the many staff of the guild and other adventurers.

There's a huge table in the center of the room and a map. One of the staff then open his mouth and spoke.

"There's no time to waste gentlemen, the guildmaster ordered for you all to support the frontline except for this sector..." They pointed at the one red big circle on the map.

"...The objective is to hold the undead no matter what and to provide enough time for the evacuation of the citizens. Don't worry, reinforcement from other cities and the capital is already marching towards here as we speak." The staff continued with a neutral expression.

'That's bullshit. Only the Royal Faction is mobilizing but they are not even marching yet.' I thought. I have read it on one of the reports in Nazarick.

"Then why there's an evacuation if the Reinforcement on their way? Will those dumbass nobles support our city? This is under the jurisdiction of the Royal family after all." One of the adventurers said.

His question made sense, most adventurers are aware of the two major factions in the kingdom. Nobles will do anything to bring down the name of the King.

But the Guild's staff chose to ignore it and said.

"There's no time left. All Silver adventurers and below will be guided to their sectors. Gold-ranked adventurers will remain here."

No one dared to question him evading the question, but everyone inside the room realized how serious the situation is.

Everyone is thinking that they are being sent to their deaths "legally" by the guild, and not following the order of the guild will result in excommunication or even... assassination.

And being a Worker is a very unstable job. Since they'll die either way and cannot refuse a direct order from the guild, then they will just go and try to survive.

Most people in the room are low ranking adventurers, there's no chance for them to become Workers.

Anyway, the adventurers with silver plates and below have been finally led outside the room to be sent to the frontlines.

But I know for a fact why we(gold-plates) remained here.

A few of us who are Gold-plates are left. To be exact, two teams. Narberal also appeared beside me now, drawing glances from the men in the room.

"*Cough*, you Gold-ranked adventurer teams will be sent here in that sector. Don't get involved in the fighting of Mithrils and Platinums you'll get in the way, focus on fighting the other stronger undead... Understood?"

"Understood." I and the other team's leader replied.

"Ha~ Good luck." The staff sighed.

And that's it. They seem to be rushing it. Time is really tight now I guess, but whatever.

'It's showtime.' I thought.

Another person then guided us to the sector.

And as we ran towards the place, we passed the battle lines that are blocking the horde of false life.

Sounds of fighting are resounding the whole streets, I took a glance once and could see Necroswarm giants, Large undead vultures, and so on.

Exhausted people being replaced by their substitutes. Others being healed on the side, only to go back on the fighting.

Since I am kinda tall, I could see the ocean of undead that is never-ending replenishing their losses. To think the battle lines are holding firm. Bravo.

We finally arrived in the sector or at least that's what the guide told us when something happened.

*Pak!*

My vision manages to follow the body of a man who flew on top of us and hit the nearby building making that large sound.

"ROAAAAR!" The scene is followed by a hoarse roar, full of hatred, and I could see on the corner of my vision that the Gold-ranked adventurer team we are with are already shaking.

"W-What are we going to do! Two Mithril team lost from that monster!!!" Someone shouted.

There are some Gold-ranked adventurers already running.

'The Death Knight already has 5 squires? Amazing.' I thought.

The Death Knight and his goons already killed a lot, seeing the many zombies fighting with the adventurers beside me.

Death Knights are estimated to be a level 35 but It's strong as level 45 and anyone it kills will turn into a level 17 Squire Zombies(It's limited though) and anyone killed by a Squire Zombie will turn into a Zombie, and It's unlimited.

Letting them steamroll this, they could easily make any city to have full of zombies.

Some Mithril is slowly backing away, they must be confused why the Death Knight just strangely stopped Its neverending offensive.

'This is so dumb, are my guys ordering him to stop for me?' I thought, wanting to facepalm so bad now.

'It seems that I need to fight him now.'

"Nabe, Lupusregina, support the other adventurers."

"Understood Momon-sama."

Arghhh! I'm bacx. Lemme give you one by one a kiss. mwahh mwahh
