257 Duel at the Range

"Oh, I haven't missed anything?"

A casual shout drew Pilor's and Ayse's attention away from the booth. They peered past the crowd to spot a middle-aged man inhaling a fat cigar.

"So you decided to show up, huh? For a second, I thought you sent them my way to mess with me," Pilor laughed.

Kater blew a few smoke rings from the side of his mouth. "Does this mean I can join the bet?"

"Only if you're placing it on me," Pilor guffawed.

The crowd cleared a path for Kater, who wasn't much larger than the next man. Those spectators offered Kater a front-row view the moment he asked to join the bet and up the ante.

A few spectators even called out from the crowd, waving bank cards in the air.
