Overlord: Conquest of Despair

Visions of the future plague the dreams of a young Antilene, someone who would one day don the epithet of Certain Death, the extra seat of the Black Scripture. This is the journey in which this half-elf embarks on to prevent the horrid reality that would one day prevail. To challenge those who sought to bring about ruin in this world, monsters from whom's perspective we once observed. The greatest guild of heteromorphs, Ainz Ooal Gown. Chapter 21

The man before had a stupefied look upon his face, stunned from the proposition made from my leader.

"Hey, why don't I make the deal sweeter for you? If you win you can join." Wrai just continued to incite him, while I looked to the noble wizard, expecting her to protest, but she just stayed quiet.

"You know who I am right?" He made a strange face while saying this, and looked towards us expectantly as if really thinking that we knew who he was. I turned to the others, having the thought that maybe they knew who he was.

But all I saw was confused faces.

""Not really."" We all replied.

"Are you all fucking with me?! I'm Braulk, captain of the Six Argonauts, the Mithril ranked party!" Though the name eluded me, since I only had basic knowledge of the world, not having access or interest in this sort of information.

The others seemed to recognize his name, and with keen ears I heard the whispers of some bar patrons that seemed to be speaking about him.

"Oh yeah, I heard that they were the strongest team in the city before Silver Sky formed."

"Apparently Braulk is even being considered for Orichalcum, I remember him inviting several of the members of Silver Sky individually before they formed."

Satisfied with my eavesdropping, I refocused on the current situation, and it seemed like he agreed to our leader's proposition.

I just let out a tired sigh, these past few days having more action than the rest of my life combined, and I have a feeling things aren't about to slow down.

Now I just wonder if it was really a good idea to join them.

He led us to an open court behind the guild building, since we can't exactly engage in combat indoors, a crowd followed us out, seeking to entertain themselves.

It was a training yard, with dozens of different adventurers exercising and practicing. When the hoard of us arrived, they all paused what they were doing and turned to us.

"Draw your weapon, if you're an actual warrior, we'll use them live." The Mithril adventurer says as he draws a large twin bladed battle axe, pulling it off his back and pointing it at me.

I just scoffed at his obvious dismissal of my abilities before I asked him a question -

"Terms of victory?"

"Ha! Whoever gives up or is incapacitated first. Not that it would even need to go that far. This will be over in an instant."

I unstrapped my bag off of myself and handed it over to Wrai, locking eyes with him, he just gave me a small smirk, not even worried.

I moved my hand to my waist, grasping the handle of my blade and slowly unsheathed it. The sound of crisp steel vibrated through the air, the evidence of a sharp weapon, all the while I stared him down straight in the eyes.

"I'll let you have the first move, I wouldn't want anyone accusing me of bullying a child. So, here's your chance!" He spoke as he stood in a defensive position, the crowd circling us, giving us ample space to move around in.

He didn't even use any Martial Art in preparation, so I won't either. Usually I wouldn't give someone foolish enough to underestimate an opponent due to age this courtesy, however I was here to prove a point.

If I don't establish myself right this instance, it'll be a major pain down the line, with people doubting me, and by association the team I had just joined, which could lead to people hesitating in trusting them.

And that would be an inconvenience I can avoid with this opportunity.

Crouching down, I aimed the point of my sword straight at him, I tensed my entire body like a spring.

In the next moment, I released everything at once.

My bloodlust slammed into him like a hammer, as he took a step back in shock, breaking out in a cold sweat. I unleashed my coiled body, leaping at him, streaked forward with a boom. I burst forth at the highest speed I could without any enhancement, vanishing from the perception of the majority of the observers.

In an instant I was before him, my blade shooting forth, he quickly moved to defend, but in an instantaneous change of momentum, I spun my blade in hand, twirling it around the handle of his axe, and disarming him.

Dropping my weapon, I switched hands, gripping it with my left, whipping the tip up to the throat of the man before me.

The world came back into focus, as I let go of my combat state, his weapon fell to the ground behind me, digging into the floor.

The point had penetrated his skin, as blood dripped down the edge of my blade, as he stood there, stunned that it was all over. The fact most likely hadn't even realized he had lost.. but pushing the sword forward, the pain woke him up to reality.

"I give up! I give up!" He snapped out of his haze, looking down at me, surprise completely overtaking his features.

I nodded, accepting his admit of defeat, as I walked away, never having doubted my absolute victory, even if he had survived my initial attack, there wasn't much he could have done afterwards, having lost composure and balance.

Perhaps if he had taken me seriously from the start, the fight could have dragged on for a minute or two, since the only advantage he had over me was experience and reach. I judged him to be between level nineteen and twenty three, while I had reached level twenty six after the latest ordeal.

Actually approaching level twenty seven, I would probably achieve that in a few weeks.

I swung my sword, creating an arc of blood staining the ground and sheathed it.

I returned to my newly acquired companions, holding out my hands, waiting for him to return my Bag of Holding.

But Wrain just stood there, staring at me with a grin that seemed to be growing wider by the second, he then dropped the container in my embrace, and reached his hand forward for my head.

A little confused, I let him.

His open palm touched the top of my head, as he slowly patted me.

Giving me a thumbs up with his other limb.

"Good job!"
