Overlord Ascension

This fanfiction follows the journey of a young man who, despite being crippled, finds solace in playing the DMMORPG Yggdrasil. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he is transported to a new world. While the premise might seem cliché at first glance, I assure you this story is anything but typical. I've poured my efforts into crafting a unique and immersive narrative, and I hope you'll give it a chance. ----- A warning though, the new world and other worlds will be AU, meaning certain things would be different, and there story is massively inspired by another fanfic named 'Overlord: Multiverse' which the author sadly dropped, so there will things similar to that, also, Additionally, English is not my native language, so I ask for your understanding if any mistakes slip through despite my use of Grammarly. Other than that, this fanfic would not follow the cliche trope of other overlord fanfic where the MC just conquers the world, this will be different, in what sense, you might ask? Well, you have to read it to find out.

Arrival in the New World II

After the attack on Asgard, Raizel was awarded the Vampire God racial class. It provided him with some important skills, but it also added a heavy penalty.

Due to having that class, he had a passive called Holy/Light Attack Vulnerability VI. Due to this, he took 12 times the damage from any holy/light attack.

In addition, he was exceedingly weak to holy magic casters, so much so that even a half-baked level 100 divine magic caster could kill him if Raizel was careless.

His only way to defend against such attacks was some specialized spells he had—alongside some other methods, so if magic didn't work in this world, he would be at a considerable disadvantage.

He deactivated his Aura Manipulation technique and started walking toward the distant forest.

'Man, this feels surreal.'

He mused while walking. This was his first experience of walking after a long time. Despite years of being unable to walk, the act felt instinctive, requiring no time for him to relearn it.

He slowly made his way toward the forest, enjoying the serene atmosphere.

'I am baffled by this beauty.'

He took a deep breath and gazed directly at the sun. Surprisingly, his eyes remained unscathed, unaffected by its intense rays.

"Hmm, I've heard that looking directly at the sun would burn your eyes. However, no matter how much I gaze at it now, nothing seems to happen."

He stopped and kept his eyes on the sun as if challenging it to a stare-off.

"Maybe the sun functions differently in this world."

Concluding his contemplation with the sun, he soliloquized and resumed his journey toward the forest.

'Or maybe, because I am a vampire now? I still have my racial classes, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities, but...'

He stopped and started observing his being.

'I didn't think about this before, but I have become my in-game character,' He pondered while doing some stretches and other light exercises.

"Even though this isn't my original body, I'm not feeling weird. On the opposite, I'm feeling more... alive."

Before, he didn't pause to ponder his situation—survival took precedence. Now that he realized his skills were operational, the worry of danger lessened, and his mind began thinking rationally.

He felt the incredible power coursing through his body, and he felt unstoppable. Like he couldn't be stopped by any force in the world.

'This feels amazing.'

He had a barely hidden smile while he clenched his fist.

'Let's test something,' Assuming a running stance, he sprinted toward the forest at breakneck speed after a few seconds.

Despite running at an absurd speed, he could still discern details around him and maintain precise control over his body without any difficulty.

A swirling vortex of dust materialized behind him, a tumultuous testament to the sheer force of his rapid sprint.

"THIS FEELS AMAZING!"

Reaching the forest's entrance took him 30 seconds, and then he stopped running. The dust vortex crashed into his backside, covering his view in dust.

"I don't feel an urge to cough, even though I'm inhaling dust particles."

He waited a few seconds for the dust cloud to settle, and once it did, he saw the forest entrance.

Lush vegetation swallowed the clearing, moss-slick stones peeking from a vibrant carpet of ferns and wildflowers. Towering trees, draped in emerald curtains of vines, stood as ancient sentinels, their crowns a sun-dappled mosaic against the sky.

"I still can't get over the beauty of this world."

Raizel kept staring at the forest for quite a long time before the chirping of birds took him out of the trance.

"Right! I shouldn't dawdle anymore. There is a high chance that because I'm teleported to this world, the other players who were online at the end might also have been teleported."

If his speculations were true, there was a great chance that human and demi-human Players were also transported to this world. And if he was teleported to Midgard, Alfheim, or Asgard, he would be in deep trouble.

There was a natural divide between these two groups, and because he was weak to holy magic, a level 100 Player playing as an angel would be the bane of his existence.

Because angels had a natural affinity for holy/light magic, their attacks did 3 times the damage to average Players. One could consider how much damage they would do Raizel because of his weakness towards holy magic.

"I hope magic works too," Muttering this, he aimed one of his fingers and focused on casting a particular spell.

The moment he started focusing, information about the aforementioned spell, like how to cast it, MP cost, cooldown, damage, limitations, etc. Filled his mind.

'It works the same way as the skills.'

Using the information, he proceeded to cast a 7th-tier spell.

<Blood Javelin>

Before Raizel, a javelin made of blood materialized. After a brief pause, it swiftly launched towards its target—a tree. Upon collision, the javelin firmly lodged into the tree, and the vivid colors of the once lively foliage began to fade, a transformation easily discernible to Raizel's eyes.

The spell was exclusive to the job class Composite Arch Elementalist: Blood, Dark. It created a javelin made of blood, which, upon contact, would slowly drain the HP of the opponent.

'MP loss feels weird.'

Raizel wriggled his body, unfamiliar with the sensation of MP loss. While not painful, it was decidedly uncomfortable.

"It feels like something was taken away from me. But that sensation is already subsiding; I guess my MP recovery is also working. That's good to know."

He mumbled while gazing down at his right hand, adorned with five rings. Each ring was connected to his wristband by gold chains, adding a stylish flair. This distinctive style profile was mirrored on both hands.

In Yggdrasil, any player with over 80 points in MP took 30 minutes to recover it once it was fully used. This was without the help of any item. However, Raizel only needed 15 minutes to refill the same amount of MP due to one of his rings.

Raizel had 10 rings on his hand and wore two wristbands on each arm. Typically, Players could only put two rings in each hand, but Raizel used a Cash Shop item to increase that number to 5 on each hand.

All his rings were top Divine-Class items, each with 2 ability slots. One of the rings was called {The Ring of Mana Recovery}, which increased his MP regeneration rate by 50%. This distinctive ring featured a sizable blue gem embedded in a slender silver band.

"Right, so the spells work. Let's try a few more just to be sure."

He then pointed at the now withered tree; the javelin had already disintegrated, but its effects lingered. The once lush tree stood as a mere husk of its former self. Its branches contorted at odd angles, numerous leaves had fallen, and its overall color appeared sickly.

"Let's try some divination spells."

<Insight >

It was a 5th-tier spell that provided its caster information about the target. The details obtained could encompass various aspects such as the target's level, stats, name, and more.

However, the spell came with limitations—it could only be cast once on a particular target within a 20-minute timeframe, and the caster could only glean one specific piece of information during each use.

Raizel chose to get information about the tree's race for this cast. The moment the spell was cast, the tree momentarily shone in blue.

(Normal dead tree)

"Good, divination type spells are also working. However, I can't try defensive spells without an opponent, nor can I test regeneration spells."

He possessed a diverse array of spells as a highly-skilled magic caster. Even within Yggdrasil, his spell repertoire ranked among the top 5, and he was ranked 1st in the guild on magic knowledge. He had over 1500 spells in his repertoire.

"Which leaves elemental-type, scouting-type, summoning-type, and a few miscellaneous types of spells." He contemplated what type of spell he should test next. After much deliberation, he chose to try elemental-type spells.

Because of the Composite Arch Elementalist: Blood, Dark job class, his spells made of blood and dark elements were strengthened. And because of his earlier experimentations, he knew that blood element spells worked. So, for this next test, he used a dark element spell.

<Dark Spear>

A spear made of darkness materialized before him before firing off toward a tree in the distance, unlike <Blood Javelin>, who logged into its target and drained its HP.

The <Dark Spear> did piercing damage to the target. As a result, it passed through multiple trees and only stopped after about 30 trees.

"So, different types of damage also work as they did back in Yggdrasil."

Raizel chose this particular spell to test whether different types of damage also worked in this new world. Because <Dark Spear> and <Blood Javelin> were of the same tier, if the different types of damage didn't exist in this new world, their effects should've been the same.

Raizel continued testing spell after spell for a few minutes until he had tested the most crucial of the main elemental-type spells.

"It seems it would be night soon."

Standing at the entrance of the forest, Raizel witnesses the breathtaking spectacle of the setting sun over the expansive plain. The waning light bathes the landscape in a warm embrace, casting long shadows that stretch toward the forest floor. The ice-covered mountains in the distance become a majestic backdrop, their peaks aglow with the hues of a fading day.

"What should I do now? It would soon be night, and I don't have a place to stay. According to my testing, my passives should also be functional. Which means I shouldn't be hindered by the lack of light."

Vampires had a passive that allowed them to see clearly in the night.

"However, I don't like spending the night outside. I can't use <Create Fortress> as well; if there are other Players here, that will draw too much attention."

<Create Fortress> was a 10th-tier spell that summoned a mighty fortress or a 30-meter-tall tower out of thin air. In Yggdrasil, anyone on the same team could open those doors with a touch. All others would have to break them down.

"I should also do something about my race. It wouldn't do me good if an angel, human, or demi-human Player found me, a lone heteromorph."

He lifted his left hand and observed his rings. One of them stood out to him; it was a silver-wrought ring with an amethyst embedded in the center of it. The guild's symbol was also imprinted on the amethyst in black.

{The Ring Of Ainz Ooal Gown} allowed its wearer to teleport in and out of the Great Tomb of Nazarick. Because the Great Tomb was warded against teleportation, this ring was the only way to teleport directly into the Nazarick.

"Hmm, when I was teleported here, I didn't see Nazarick being teleported with me. However, I should try using it. Who knows, maybe Nazarick was teleported somewhere else."

After deciding on his actions, he used the ring, but nothing occurred.

"The teleportation failed. Which means that Nazarick wasn't teleported to this new world. A shame," He muttered to himself, removed the chain connected to the ring, and took the ring off his finger.

"If the ring is useless, I should probably use some other ring that might prove helpful in this scenario."

He looked down toward a sack that was connected to his belt. It looked like a normal backpack, but its appearance was very misleading.

He took the backpack, placed it on the ground, and crouched down.

"In Yggdrasil, a screen would show the backpack's contents. I wonder how it would work in this new world."
