1 The Day It Happened

What's the meaning of life? A question everyone has asked themselves at least once. Death is something inevitable. It's scary to think about and knowing that the future generation won't even have a clue about who you were when you were alive is something hard to swallow.

Is there even a point in living when you know you and most of the people won't accomplish anything noteworthy to be remembered by? Do you ever wish that your life can have some sort of excitement before you die, so you could at least have that one moment to look back on? Ever wish you could do fantastical things you see in comics, cartoons? If so, make sure you don't regret ever wanting to stray away from your peaceful life, because not everything will turn out the way you wanted it to.

[Location: Toronto Ontario]

"Wake up, you have school in thirty minutes"

Hearing the voice call out to him, the boy sat up from his bed with some difficulty before standing up and walking to the washroom, six feet away from him. He then went to the sink, turned the right faucet handle to the left, making water flow out of the faucet. Grabbing both the toothbrush and paste, he started brushing his teeth. Shortly after he finished brushing his teeth, he washed his face.

After finishing his routine, he looked into the mirror, and he saw a boy roughly 5ft 11, with wavy black hair and hazel eyes. The teen was slightly overweight and has a face that could be good-looking if he lost a couple of pounds.

"Sigh, I gotta lay off the chips." The boy said, looking at his flabs and love handles.

He then left the washroom and walked to his closet. After taking out his uniform, he quickly got dressed before making his bed. When he did everything he had to do, the boy walked down the stairs and went to the living room.

Five minutes later, another two people walked down the stairs. One is a woman with black hair flowing down her back. She was wearing comfortable clothes and had sunglasses on her head. The other person was a young boy with curly, dark brown hair. The boy was wearing a blue shirt and black sweats with a cross and halo logo.

"You ready Johnny," the woman asked.

"Yeah, mom".

The boy, now known as Johnny, responded. His full name was Johnathan. However, his family called him by his nickname, Johnny.

The three then walked out their door, which led to the front of the house. Getting out of the house, the three walked to the black BMW in their driveway. After they got into the car they and drove off to Johnathan's school.

"Antonio, did you make the basketball team?"

Johnathan asked his brother, to which he responded with a "yes". The two brothers then continued to talk about random things until they reached Johnathan's school. Before getting out of the car, he kissed his mother on the cheek and dapped his brother up.

After saying his goodbyes, he got out of the car and walked towards the entrance of the school. Once he got into the school, he walked around until he found his class on the first floor. Seeing that the door was open, he walked inside and sat beside one of his best friends, who had his head down on his desk.

"Yo Ivan, what's up"

Hearing his friend's voice, the Latino boy lifted his head, revealing his straight hair that reached his shoulder and his dark brown eyes.

"Yo, you're finally here," Ivan said with a small smile before dapping Johnathan up.

"Where Danny" Johnathan asked the Latino boy.

"He's still on his way. You know how he is, he probably snoozed his alarm"

Johnathan let out a small chuckle before continuing to converse with Ivan. A couple of minutes later a Filipino boy with tanned skin and straight short hair ran through the class, taking deep breaths.

"I made it, huff, thank god"

The boy then walked towards Johnathan and Ivan, before sitting down in the seat in front of Ivan. "You know, you might have to sleep earlier, Danny." Johnathan said with a slight chuckle.

"Yeah, I can't believe this keeps happening. We're already two months into school and you're still waking up late"

Hearing both Johnathan and Ivan's complaints, Danny put his hands over his ears and told them to stop nagging him. The three then continued to talk for a couple more minutes before their teacher walked into the class.

Everyone quieted down and waited for the teacher to take attendance.

"Ivan"

"Here",

"****"

"Here",

"Daniel",

"Here",

"**&*"

"Present"

"Johnathan"

"Here",

After Attendance, they started their lesson on STDs. While the teacher was going on with his lesson Johnathan had his head down thinking about the math test he had after the period. 'Fuck, I didn't even study, ' complained Johnathan as he closed his eyes, wishing something would postpone the test.

*HORRNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN*

Johnathan and everyone in the class jumped up from their seats as the windows in the class broke. 'Trumpets?' Johnathan thought, confused about what was happening. The agonizing screams of some of his classmates soon interrupted his thoughts. Looking around, he saw that some of the surrounding children were bleeding through their eyes and nose.

"argghhhhh"

Terrified by the screams of his classmates, Johnathan quickly got up from his seat, grabbed his bag. He didn't want to stay any longer. He felt that something terrible was going to happen if he did.

"Ivan, Danny"

"Already on it," the two said at the same time as they got up with their bags.

The three then ran out of the class. "Stop, stay in the-" Before the teacher could finish what he had to say, two students attacked him with crazed looks.

"ARGHHHH"

The teacher screamed in pain as the students started feasting on his body.

Johnathan and the other quickly ran away in fear, with some other kids following closely behind. While running, Ivan suggested they go to the cafeteria.

"Let's go to the cafeteria. We need weapons to protect ourselves if something like that happens to us"

Hearing Ivan's suggestion, Johnathan and Danny quickly agreed. The sight of their teacher getting attacked and hurt badly frightened them. As they continued to run through the halls, they saw many other students running in fear, some with blood on them. A minute later, they finally reached the kitchen.

Quickly running inside the kitchen, they went towards the knives. The three then took two each in their hands and another two inside their bags.

"We might also need food. If I'm right about what it is, we won't survive without food" Johnathan said as they quickly packed six containers of food into their bags, along with plenty of water bottles.

"Good, let's get the fuck out of here"

The other two quickly nodded at Danny's words. The three then ran out the back door, which led outside.

Once they reached the outside, they cursed, "Fuck". Seeing the amount of fire and cars crashed, along with what looked like actual fucking zombies, they couldn't help but feel screwed.

However, instead of taking the main street, they quickly made their way towards the smaller and narrower street, which was less populated and safer.

Quietly running through the small streets and occasionally hiding behind cars, they finally left the school premises, but by the time that happened, they were sweating like crazy and were out of breath. Hiding and running through the school, and running as fast as you can to make sure you don't get stuck in an area full of man-eating creatures, tired them out faster than they first expected.

The three slowed down their pace and took out a water bottle as they took small sips and continued to walk through a small neighborhood with cars on fire and flipped over.

The three were constantly turning their heads, looking out for any danger. As they were walking, they heard groans and screams from the houses. They couldn't help but feel scared, but they quickly shoved their fears back and let the adrenaline and their will to survive to take over.

Walking a couple more meters, they let out a sigh since they noticed that none of the Zombies were following them, nor were they near them. They were most likely stuck in the houses. However, their luck ran out as two zombies started approaching them from the shadows of a house.

"Shit" Johnathan cursed.

"It's only two. We can handle them, but we have to make sure we don't draw on any other zombies," Danny said.

Though he confidently said this, Danny was still a young teenager with not much fighting experience. Especially against something that he thought could not feel pain. The situation was truly freighting.

The other two weren't fairing much better. Their hands were shaking, and sweating like there's no tomorrow.

But no matter how scared they were, they had families they wanted to check up on, so fearing just two zombies was not something they could let faze them. The three gripped their knives harder, which stopped their hands from shaking. They were all about to rush in but before they could Johnathan spotted some big rocks.

"I have an idea"

The other two stopped themselves from running and looked at Johnathan as he quickly explained what do to.

_________

AN: They didn't spot many zombies since most are still at home, work, or other closed spaces so zombies in the streets are harder to come by since the zombies are too dumb to open the doors.
