13 Rescue (11)

Hiding behind one of the portable classrooms, the three talked about their plan. They had already decided to use a short cut to the roof, but the problem was leaving the school premises. Since they were behind a portable, no zombies were able to see them. But the short cut they were going to use, needed them to be out in the open. Meaning, zombies were definitely going to chase them.

"I mean, we're already where your brother is. We have some time to kill some zombies before we save your brother. If we can power up a little, we might be able to just jump down from the roof"

"Yeah but fighting a horde of twenty plus zombies isn't something that I wanna do right now Danny. We can take on ten or so with the three of us, but twenty is not something we can do with our strength"

"True but we can can always run away and jump over the fence if anything goes wrong, Johnathan"

Ivan thought over what Danny had said and agreed with him. This was the perfect chance to get stronger. There was plenty of zombies, which means they would one hundred percent be able to eat another crystal.

"Plus, most of the zombies are elementary kids. They're shorter than us and are probably slower than the adult ones we killed. We'll be fine. We can also get your brother a crystal"

Johnathan thought for a minute before agreeing to Ivan and Danny's plan.

"Fine, let's do it"

The three then straightened their backs and took out their weapons. They sneakily made their way to the right and left sides of the portable to try and figure out how many zombies they would need to fight.

Peeking over the edge of the portable, they saw hundreds of zombies. They definitely wouldn't be able to deal with this many of them. But they had a plan. Hit and run! That was their plan. They would continuously go to the zombies. Finish a couple off, take their bodies and run back to their spot behind the portable. They would then jump over the fence and look for crystals in the zombies they killed.

Following the plan, Johnathan and the other two ran towards the zombies that were aimlessly walking around, and attacked them.

Stabbing one in the head killing it, Danny ran towards another one and did the same to it. Ivan was doing the same, stabbing them in the head and grabbing a hold of their bodies. Johnathan however, was using the bat and swinging it at their heads.

Before the zombies noticed, five of their own had already died. However, shortly after killing them, the boys' luck ran out. The hundreds of zombies had noticed them and were already going to them at a moderate pace.

Making sure they had the zombies' bodies the three ran away as fast as they could. Since the zombies were way slower than the three, they weren't able to catch up. Once the three had made it to the fence, they bent their knees, and jumped.

Once they got over the fence with the zombies in hand, they let out a sigh and dropped the zombies they were holding to wipe the sweat off their face.

What they did was reckless and dangerous. The plan could've went horribly wrong if the zombies were faster. But because it worked, the three had big smiles on their faces. They were able to get five bodies. Though it wasn't a sure thing that they would find anything, there was still a chance.

With that said, the three started searching the bodies of the zombies they killed. Unfortunately for Danny, he had only managed to kill one before the other zombies noticed them. Johnathan and Ivan had both killed two before they had to leave, so they were quite fortunate.

Looking through the bodies of the zombies he killed, it was as if God answered his prayers. Johnathan's first corpse had a crystal in it. Unfortunately, the other corpse had nothing, but Johnathan was happy nonetheless.

Ivan and Danny were also lucky, since they had both found one crystal.

'How did we all get one. Last time we looked for them, we didn't even get one. Are we really that lucky'

Johnathan couldn't help wonder as he looked at the crystals. However that thought only lasted a second as he quickly grabbed the crystal and tried swallowing it. But before he and the other two could eat them, the zombies reached the fence, shaking it.

Getting startled, the three flinched a little. They quickly got up and ran further down the street, with the zombies still trying to break the fence down.

Once they were quite a few meters away from them, the three quickly popped the crystals in their mouth.

*Beat*

A loud heartbeat came from the three of them before an unimaginable pain came forwards. The three quickly clutched where the pain was coming from. Their stomach, or more accurately, where their solar plexus was located.

Johnathan felt like thousands of needles were piercing his skin. His stomach area was going numb but he still felt the pain. He wanted to cry out in pain, but he didn't want to alert the zombies. They were to vulnerable at the moment and if zombies came, he doubted they would have a good chance of surviving.

But soon after, the pain settled down and a new feeling washed over him. Something completely different than before. He felt something akin to a breeze move towards his solar plexus when he took a deep breath and relaxed. Sitting up, Johnathan focused on the 'breeze' and focused on trying to absorb it.

Once he did, he continued doing it for four more minutes before the speed of absorbing it decreased greatly. And once it decreased something wonderful happened. He felt a a orb the size of a ping pong. It was as if it was another organ. Instinctively he knew what it was used for. He was supposed to use it to draw out the 'breeze'. Doing so, something Johnathan would never forget happened.

AN: Most of you probably know what the core and 'breeze' is. And if you don't know by any chance, don't worry, next chapter will go more into detail.

- The reason why, Johnathan and the other two were able to escape the horde of hundreds of zombies was because they were slow compared to them. Remember, they were already enhanced by two crystals at that point. The zombies were normal middle schoolers who got turned into monster with no physical buffs. The only thing they had on them was numbers.

- Remember its only the first couple of hours, so no everything will be this easy for them in the future.
