Escape (3)

Ivan took in a deep breath and pointed at one window behind the two. "We can jump out the window and run as fast as we can back to the apartment. We can also have you stop time when we reach the floor to get a head start if there are any zombies there".

Hearing the plan, Johnathan thought for a second. 'Would we be able to get down with no injuries? We're high up.'

Johnathan knew that because of the crystals, they wouldn't die. But they had a good chance of getting injured if they landed the wrong way. And getting injured in zombies didn't sound like something he wanted to do. That, and he didn't like heights. The combination made it hard for him to agree, but no one else had any ideas. So, without having much to say, he helplessly agreed.

"Sure, let's do it."

Since everyone was on board, they stood up and quickly made their way to one window. Looking out of the large-sized window -that had some blood smeared on it- they saw tens of zombies just walking around.

It was weird. Johnathan had thought that with their evolution, they wouldn't stay so... still? But Johnathan didn't pay it much mind. Looking ahead, he saw that fence they jumped was to the right of them. So now that they knew where they were, the next step was jumping out.

The problem was, they needed to break the window. 'If we do that, the zombies below us will get agitated and focus on us before we even get down.' Thinking that Johnathan started getting nervous.

The others weren't faring any better. Ivan only thought of jumping out of the window, but how they would do that was still a mystery to him.

"Maybe we can make a distraction? Breaking a window further to the right of us could help, right?"

Johnathan and Ivan looked at him as if he was stupid. "Doing that would alert them before we even break the window we need to jump out from"

Danny sighed, clearly frustrated. Ivan shook his head. "Let's hold hands and jump together. Once we land, Johnathan can use all his mana and stop time for a couple of seconds to get us close to the portables"

Johnathan and Danny's eyes lit up. That wasn't a poor plan, and it had a good chance of working. SO with no other ideas, Danny turned around and grabbed one chair.

*BANG*

*BANG*

The zombies started banging on the door as hard as they could, and because of there being multiple, the desks that kept them at bay were moving.

With little time left, Danny threw the chair as hard as he could at the large window.

*Crack*

The window broke, and all the pieces of glass fell inside and outside the classroom. The window-breaking made the zombies outside the classroom growl even louder.

Peeking their heads outside, they saw the zombies were looking up. Making eye contact with the zombies, the boys started second-guessing the plan.

"Let's go before they bust through the door"

Johnathan and Ivan nodded at Danny's words. The window was wide enough to fit four people, so the three of them could fit with some adjustments here and there. They held each other's hands but when it was time for them to jump; they froze.

They looked down and noticed how much higher they were than when they first looked out of the window. But before they could back out and step back into the class, the door behind them burst open.

Johnathan closed his eyes and cursed before jumping out of the window with the other two.

"AHHHHHHH"

They screamed as were quickly approaching the ground.

*Plop*

Reaching the ground, they looked below them and saw that they killed two zombies with their landing. Before they could make sure they were okay, Ivan yelled at Johnathan to use his power. Not even a second later, he activated his power, and the world turned gray.

Grabbing both Ivan and Danny, he sprinted towards the portables. Knocking a few zombies out of the way, Johnathan was getting closer and closer to the portables. With fifteen meters away from his destination, his power unfortunately stopped and time started flowing again.

For Ivan and Danny, it was like they teleported. They were in one place a second ago and appeared somewhere else the next second. However, they had no time to be in awe. Johnathan fell to his knee and dropped the two. Danny quickly picked Johnathan up and started running with Ivan closely behind.

Before the zombies noticed, they were already behind the portable. They dropped to the ground with sweat rolling down their face and their hearts beating as fast as they could. They silently sighed with relief before smiling.

They couldn't believe they pulled it off.

Johnathan took out one of the two crystals he had and ate it. Immediately after eating it, he felt the mana in the air getting sucked into his core.

A minute later, the mana he lost quickly recovered. But that wasn't it. He felt like his mana got denser. He closed his eyes and peeked into his mana core. Before, he felt like his mana was... lighter? But after eating the crystal, it felt heavier. He didn't know exactly how to explain, but he was happy with the transformation.

He believed that with his mana being denser; the amount needed to use his power would decrease. But sadly, he couldn't test it out. He needed to escape the school and head back to the bike store.

Taking another second to calm down, he looked at his two friends, who were looking at him, waiting to know what happened after he ate the crystal.

"I'll tell you guys later, but let's leave. The zombies are growling a little too loud."

The two agreed, and they quickly stood up. However, that's when Johnathan realized the bat on his back wasn't there anymore.

The bat was between the two straps of his backpack. 'It probably slipped out when we were falling. Sigh, whatever.'

Sighing for the nth time, Johnathan followed closely behind the others.

A few silent steps later, the boys got to the fence and easily hopped over. When they turned around, they saw the zombies looking around, searching for them. But luckily, they were in their blind spot.

After a good amount of time, they had finally left the school and were heading back to their temporary home.
