A week had gone by and Thando was in a medically induced coma, the doctor - who they found out was Dr Blaine – explained to them that it was needed to keep her alive. It was a Friday yet again and surprisingly Jordan was the first person to make it to the hospital to see her that day. Yolanda and Josiah relented and allowed him to visit her after Marcus convinced them that they were all guilty of making her life horrible and that the young was owning up to his mistake, Josiah was not by any means happy. For the first time in three days he’d brought her flowers. Jordan decided that bringing flowers that wilted before she’d even woke up was traumatic but felt on that day – for some odd reason – that they all needed something that was alive and thriving through that difficult time and that maybe it could encourage Thando to follow suit.

She did.

Thando moved her fingers, however the movement was small that Jordan missed it from his peripheral vision. As though she was frustrated from not being noticed as she woke up, she groaned. It was a small sound but a sound nonetheless. Jordan was so relaxed in the chair near her bed that he freaked out a bit when he heard that sound- he was not expecting it.

Of all the days she could wake up – she chose one that had her parents tied up somewhere else and on the road to her.

After the initial shock came joy and Jordan ran out to look for her doctor but found a nurse who was clearly in disbelief and went to check on the patient first before looking for Dr Blaine.

They were all shocked, Dr Blaine had not expected her to wake up after a week yet he hoped it would be soon, if not he would have to leave Thando’s parents with a difficult dilemma. Jordan quickly searched for his phone to call her parents to tell them about his new discovery but quickly realised that he had not in fact taken their numbers.

Jordan was happy, however he was not sure what was appropriate, to hold her hand, converse with her? Who would he say he was to her? Would he tell her he was the reason she was in hospital in the first place. Of course not. That would have made her relieve her trauma. He felt guilty, and he didn’t really know what to do apart from smiling from time to time and saying ‘the doctor will be here soon.’

She was confused, he saw it in her eyes but she somehow could not voice her concerns – perhaps she was afraid to.

Who is this handsome man?

Where is Adam?

Two thoughts that ran through her head. But upon thinking of Adam her mood was dampened. She thought of how her parents could not come to see her in hospital when she needed them and that a stranger was there for her. Yet, that too did not make any sense.

No dilemma needed however Thando’s parents entered her room with a sour mood- unaware of the whole situation. Yolanda was furious – she was whisper yelling (little too loudly) at her husband from not listening to her when she’d told him to make sure that their car had a spare wheel. In fact their cars had seeming either had no spare wheel at all or it was too small or even too big for that particular car.

A groan from somewhere in the room stopped Yolanda’s husband from responding. He could not believe his eyes – but Jordan’s eyes and smile told them that it was real.

It had to be when they were late.

But it happened anyway.

And surely, Thando was awake.
