<Timeskip/Recap>

Osaka National Hospital. One of Japan's many high-end medical facilities situated near the center of the city. On this day, the life of one of this hospital's most famous residents is about the change forever.

Streams of brilliant light leak between the blinds in Hospital Room 502 as the city outside seems to wake up. The light lands on the eyelids of the only individual in the room, a sickly pale teenager lying down on the bed with his eyes closed by the name of Itsuki Amagawa. As most days, Itsuki makes no notice of the change in lighting, instead remaining unmoving and asleep. One look at the various tools and needles poking the teenager makes it clear that he's been asleep for a long, long time.

Footsteps resound in the less than crowded early morning hallways of the hospital, nearing Room 502. Itsuki's personal nurse and mother, Hina Amagawa opens the door to the antiseptic-smelling room and slowly walks in, her eyes bearing profoundly dark circles beneath them due to her lack of sleep and behind her back a box wrapped in blue and pink.

Mrs. Amagawa: Good morning, Itsuki. How's your morning been? Fun, I hope. Your father and I are doing pretty alright, as usual, though I seem to be (yawns) a bit more tired than usual. And, I'm not sure you remember, but today's your birthday. So...surprise! (she pulls out the box and places it down next to him on the bed) Hope you like it, it's the new Dragon Ball game since I know you liked those. Well, I got work to do, so I'll see you later!

Hina begins to walk out of the room, but before she closes the door she turns around and looks at her son one more time, seeing his pale, asleep figure. Tears threaten to leak out of her eyes, but she quickly blinks them away. She has to be strong, at least in front of him.

Mrs. Amagawa: Happy birthday, Itsuki. (She turns around and closes the door before breaking down sobbing right outside) Please wake up soon....(continues to cry as she walks to the bathroom to freshen up)

All of a sudden, the bed in the room creaks. Then it creaks again. It continues to creak repeatedly as the individual lying in it begins to toss and turn under his heavy comforter, the needles in his arm and the EKG attached to his chest starting to loosen. And then abruptly, it stops. The teenage patient's eyelids slowly pry themselves apart, before revealing two sky blue irises that are visible for the first time in two years. He tries to sit up before the wires attached to him push him back down. Again he tries to sit up, this time going a bit more slowly and succeeding in moving his body into an upright position. A raspy voice which has been unused since the speaker fell into a coma two years prior fills the desolate and drab room.

Itsuki: Hello?
