Masked men are reliable.....sometimes....

"Relax, I said I would repay you. Plus, killing you would be a waste of valuable talent. You two lost your home because of me so why don't you allow me to give you a new one" The Masked man smirked as he said. Confused, Epsilon and Efiar turned to each other and exchanged a few looks.

"What…do you mean by that?" Efiar spoke up, testing the waters. The Masked man's smirk widened. He tapped his fingers on his hip as he thought. After a few seconds he replied;

"Why don't you come work for me? I'll provide food, shelter, medical care and everything else. I can pay you quite an amount as well. You'll be able to travel the world with me and go sightseeing. I'll also pay for your education and equipment you'll need." This answer shocked the two. So many benefits just for having their house blown up. They would be extremely well off compared to before. Epsilon began to grow excited. This was their chance. They would be able finally get off the streets. Live a new life even.

"DEAL!" Epsilon shouted immediately.

"Nope, nope, nope. Epsilon, why are you so careless? We don't even know what the Job is" Efiar immediately shut down. Epsilon was always a bit careless. To agree to take a job without knowing what it was is a terrible idea. If you look at what the man just did, it's clear that this person's job offer was sketchy and could force them to cross a line they don't want to cross. Epsilon, however, can't see such flaws. He does what he wants without any regard of the consequences he might face after. Efiar called this being stupid. Epsilon called it being adventurous.

"Hahahaha you're sharp. You'll be assassin working for my partially legal organization. You'll be working directly under me and only take orders from me" the man responded "because you'll be directly under me, you won't be on field often and it's mostly paperwork that you'll be doing."

"Partially legal?"

"PAPERWORK!?"

The two questioned simultaneously. Efiar gave Epsilon a hard smack and glared at him. He gave her an aggrieved look, but only quietly grumbled. The man only watched the scene play out patiently.

Skeptical, Efiar eyed him up and down. If they were assassins they would have to assassinate people. Efiar was okay with killing but was a bit hesitant. she didn't really care as long as they weren't people who really have done nothing wrong, but Epsilon would probably struggle. To her, they were already criminals that stole things for a living, it didn't matter if they added a few things to the list, however Epsilon's sense of justice was weird. He didn't mind stealing or vandalism but was incredibly against kidnapping and blackmailing. He was fine with beating people up but not okay with putting hands on people without their consent. Efiar didn't know where killing fell on this scale but she was pretty sure it wasn't on the good side. She turned to Epsilon to see what he was thinking. Epsilon stood there with one hand holding his face and a finger tipping lightly on his cheek. His brows were furrowed and he looked deep in thought.

"Who exactly are you and where would we go if we were to accept your offer?" Epsilon suddenly spoke up. Efiar was speechless. That was probably the most insightful thing she had ever heard him say. As far as she was concerned, it seemed like he was born without a brain. Epsilon noticed her expression and turned to goofily grin at her. Seeing that smirk, Efiar felt like running over and hitting him over the head with a stick. What is he so happy and proud about she thought before turning over to the masked man to await his response.

"Sadly I cannot reveal the location of my headquarters to you ahead of time for confidentiality's sake, but I will have you know that I am the leader of one of the biggest assassination agencies out there with more influence than some of the kings on this continent. I also have connections outside of this continent" he answered, shrugging his shoulders. Epsilon and Efiar looked at each other once more. They had nowhere to go and there was no chance they would be able to escape authorities after the death of the Duke. The two came to an agreement. It wasn't like they really had a choice. Both were terrible options but one may lead to death whereas the other may lead to possibly a better life than they had now.

"Fine, we'll take you up on your deal" the twins responded in unison. There was a determined look in their eyes. This was their chance and they were going to take it. They were going to make the most of it and build a new life for themselves.

"Good choice, now follow me. We need to get out of here before the law enforcement gets here" he turned on his heels and started heading off. The two hurried to catch up as they started down the alley. The group made theri ways through the alleys. As people who lived in these alleys, Efiar and Epsilon had a good understanding of them, so it was clear to them that the masked man clearly didn't know where he was going. They took random turns everywhere. They moved through paths that were unnecessary and hit dead ends more often than not. They often wandered too close to the open street which allowed Epsilon and Efiar to look at the bustling scene every once in a while during their trip. Whenever they passed an opening to the main road, they could see the chaos caused by the explosion consuming the streets. The chaos was short lived though as authorities came quickly. But weren't they going to slow? Epsilon turned to Efiar. If they continued at the pace they were going, they wouldn't even make it out of the alleyways before the authorities were on them. Efiar wasn't paying attention. Her eyes were locked on the masked man ahead of them who just stopped. Epsilon looked forward, intrigued at what had attracted Efiar's attention.

The man flicked his hand and slowly a rectangle was drawn on the wall in front of him. It looked as if the wall inside the rectangle was burned away and a wooden door took its place. The man opened the door and motioned for Epsilon and Efiar to head in first.

"Just take a seat on the sofa and wait for a second , it seems we have an unwanted guest"

Epsilon paused. They were far from the crime sight now so there was no way the law enforcement would have deemed them as suspects. Was there someone following them this whole time? Considering neither Epsilon or Efiar didn't feel them which means they harbored no hostility towards the two, but at the same time it seemed that the masked man and the unknown guest had a complicated relationship. Epsilon began to turn around but before he could clearly see the unknown guest, Efiar yanked his arm and dragged him through the door.

The room had a slight scent of cinnamon. The room's decor consisted of rather plain brown furniture. A fire was lit in the corner which burned brightly despite the lack of wood fueling it. The door had shut almost immediately after the twins had entered. Although the room didn't have anything extremely outstanding or expensive at first glance, the room gave off an aura of power and superiority.

"Why would you do that? I wanted to see who the unwanted guest was."

"Epsilon, you cannot be serious. That masked man obviously wanted whatever happened between them to stay between them"

"What does that have to do with me seeing who it was?"

"You dull dimwit, if the masked man was hiding his identity then most likely that guest was too. A private conversation with no identities exposed"

"I still don't get it"

"Of course you don't"

Epsilon began to ponder hard about why he wasn't allowed to see the guest face. He stood there tapping his chin as Efiar headed towards the large brown sofas in the center of the room. There were two total, both facing each other with an oval-shaped coffee table in between. The table had a single vase, one of the only pieces of decor within the room. The vase was situated with cream colored flowers with gray tips. Under each flower were 2-4 small berry-like fruits. Contrary to the color of the flowers, the berries were red and looked a lot like Red currants often found in the wild. Efiar reached forward to further inspect the flowers.

"I wouldn't touch those if I were you" a voice suddenly rang out startling Efiar and waking up Epsilon from his trance. They both looked towards the voice and found that a man in his 20s had entered through a door the 2 hadn't noticed before. The door was the same color as the walls and blended in almost perfectly. The man who had just entered the room began to introduce himself. "Hello my name is John and I am Traian's assistant. Ah right, Traian's the masked man who brought you here. I was notified that he had brought in new recruits. Actually this is the first time he has ever brought recruits in himself, He normally just leaves it to the employers''

John was around 6 feet tall and had green eyes. His hair was brown and he wore glasses. Overall he gave off a friendly feeling and was polite. Efiar overlooked what John had said about the masked man now known as Traian and went back to the flowers from before.

"Why can't I touch the flowers"

"It's not that you can't touch them, but more that you don't want to. They are very poisonous. The flowers will only hurt you if you eat them but the juice from the berries will probably cause rashes, aches, nausea, and blindness if it gets on your skin. If you eat the berries, you'll die"

"Oh, well thank you for telling me"

"No problem, we don't need our new recruits dying on us right now anyways"

John walked to the table and placed down some papers. Epsilon only now noticed that he should be sitting down as well and scrambled messily to the couch. John pushed 2 papers toward the 2. Written across the top of each was "Employment Contracts".

"These are your contracts, feel free to tell me if you don't agree with any of the terms"

The contracts were nothing out of the ordinary. Most terms were agreeable and most were in favor of the twins. The pay was good and the job requirements weren't too much. Rather it was the last clause that made the twins hesitate. The clause stated that the contract would have to be renewed every 5 years and if the twins intended to leave, they would have to stay 2 years after their next contract renewal. Despite this, the contract was quite good. The 2 whispered to each other before deciding to immediately stamp their fingerprints. John sat there with a bewildered look.

"Normally people are a bit more cautious and skeptical in this field" John commented

"Well, we're not from this field" the two responded in unison

".....okay, well follow me. I'll show you to your dorms"
