Friends or Foes

The two looked down from the balcony and noticed a group of about ten people heading in the direction of the dorm building. Epsilon and Efiar perked up their ears and listened in to what the person leading the group was saying.

"Since you guys were hired outside of recruiting season the dorms are basically empty. There should only be 2 other residents that arrived here earlier today" the woman said "the sun is starting to set now, so it'd be best if you guys settled down quickly and wait for tomorrow to learn about our facilities and work environment"

It was mostly the same introduction the twins got when they got here but in a bit more detail. Efiar leaned closer to the edge of the balcony. She watched the group of people carefully as she listened to the woman explain the facility. Even from a quick glance, you could tell these people weren't nice. One in particular stoid out to her. She couldn't make out too many details, but it was obvious that the others avoided that person and they seemed to not know what to do with their hands and feet. The constant change in pose made them stand out like a sore thumb. They would constantly trip over themselves as they walked and looked visible confused. Efiar chuckled as she watch. They reminded her slightly of Epsilon.

"Epsi, how do you think that guy got hired. He doesn't exactly fit the job?" Efiar turned to Epsilon to see that he was also watching the strange person. I guess that guy really did stand out, even Epsi noticed she thought.

"Well, I got hired so maybe they just have low standards" Epsilon shrugged in response.

"..." At least he's self aware.

By now the group was right at the door. The woman led the group inside. The twins exchanged glances before they both got up and leaped off the balcony. The two swung behind the side of the building and put their wings away before turning the corner and heading towards the entrance. Hybrids had a bad reputations and stereotypes following them. It would be best to hide their identity till they found out how the other party felt about hybrids like themselves. From the window, they could see the group inside standing and listening to the woman presumingly doing an intro to the dorm's facilities.

Epsilon and Efiar slipped in quietly and were only noticed by the woman and 3 other members of the group. Most of the group was wearing masks and hoods that covered their faces and obscured Epsilon and Efiar's sight. When the twins entered, they noticed that some of the group wasn't listening to the woman and were instead looking around the lobby. The twins had yet to look around the lobby so they snuck to a corner and observed the place from there. The lobby itself was very big. It had 4 large seating areas and benches along the walls. Plants grew for pots hanging from the ceiling with an automatic watering system. Overall the place was still quite empty compared to how large it was. The two glanced around and took note of things that would be useful. There was a small cafe and 2 stores on the first floor. A few people stuck to the walls like the twins. A large burly man walked around with his chest puffed out arrogantly, acting like he owned the place. Many of the other new recruits were watching and assessing him on whether or not he is someone worth their time. Others were visibly hostile to each other. Three people in a corner we're having a face off, some with weapons already out.

2 of the people who noticed them when they first came in broke from the crowd around the woman and walked over to Epsilon and Efiar.

"Hello" the taller brunette said. He was wearing a mask revealing only the upper section of his face. The person beside him was only an inch shorter and wore a falcon mask. Epsilon and Efiar remain silent, not returning his greeting. After a long silence, the person continued "Are you the two recruits who already live here?"

".....yeah" Efiar said. The man gave off a strange feeling and the other person had yet to even say anything.

" lady Magdalene said we had to share rooms, do you mind if we room with you"

Epsilon and Efiar exchanged glances and remained silent once more. The awkward silence remained as neither side wanted to speak up. It continued till eventually the other person suddenly spoke up.

"Forget it, we'll just stay in another room" they suddenly said bitterly before turning to storm off

"Wait, my lord" the tall brunette shouted after the person in the falcon mask. The mask had a voice changer inside and shifted the person's voice into a more neutral tone making it hard to determine the person's gender.

Epsilon and Efiar watched the two move away before slipping out an open window. They moved around the corner of the building and looked around to see if there was anyone watching. The two took off and flew to their balcony.

"Those two don't have a typical background" Epsilon said quietly

"Considering how that man called the other 'My Lord', probably not. Let's just hope we aren't involved with them in the future" Efiar replied

"Do you think they're some noble's kids that ran away" Epsilon laid down on the couch before turning to his sister

"It doesn't matter to us"

Efiar made her way to their room before grabbing her card. She and Epsilon had seen a small convenience store on the first floor. In the doorway hung a sign saying 'self service, open 24/7'. She planned to go down and buy some food tonight while everyone was sleeping. Epsilon who had gotten up and was making his way to their bedroom door saw her shove the card in her pocket. He wasn't sharp when it came to reading others but when it came to Efiar he knew exactly what she was planning.

" Are you going down later?" he asked, eyeing the pocket Efiar put her card in.

"Yeah, we don't have any food" She said looking around the room for anything else she would need

"Alone?" he said, creeping into the doorway. Efiar turned to give him a nasty look.

"Of course" Efiar made her way to slip through the doorway. Epsilon carefully moved his hand toward the pocket containing her card, attempting to pick pocket it. Just as he was about to stick his hand in Efiar Grabbed his hand and moved it away.

"Nice try, but you'll have to be smarter to trick me"

Epsilon pouted. His plan failed but that didn't mean he didn't have a back up plan. Epsilon threw himself at Efiar and refused to let go

"YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME HERE, TAKE ME WITH YOUUUUUU" he started to scream.

"EPSI YOU- GODDAMNIT" Efiar tried futility to pry the flailing kicking screeching Epsilon off of her only for him to hug her tighter than before "YOU'RE ALREADY 15 STOP THROWING TANTRUMS"

Epsilon wrapped his wings around her in an attempt to prevent her from escaping more. The two wrestle for 20 minutes before Efiar caved and promised to bring him along.

"Sometimes it feels like you were dropped on your head too many times as a child" Efiar groaned

"No, I think it was the perfect amount of times" Epsilon let go with a goofy grin on his face and Efiar smacked him atop his head because of it. The sun had set by now and the two began to get ready to go down stairs.
