Epsilon is stupid but caring

The two were awakened by a loud knock on their bedroom door. Drowsily the two sat up as the door flung open.

"You both sleep like logs, if there was a fire alarm you still wouldn't wake up" a voice sarcastically called from the doorway.

Efiar rubbed her eyes and looked to see who entered. John stood there with a slightly annoyed look on his face. He rolled his eyes at Epsilon who continued to roll around in his bed trying to escape from his blanket. Efiar got out of bed and looked out the window. The sun was high in the sky, almost at its peak. Epsilon rolled until he accidentally fell off the bed. He pulled the blanket off of his face revealing his horrendous bed hair.

"You do realize the meet time was at 7, right? It's already 10:30. Traian dragged me all the way up here to use my master key to get into you dorm"

"I was wondering how you got in. Where is Mr. Traian?" as she pulled off her blanket and looked towards the clock.

"Sitting outside in your living room. Since you missed the meeting, he was determined to come get you both for the tour at 11. He quite annoyingly barged into my office during a meeting and physically dragged me out, when he heard you guys weren't present" John complained endlessly

"I CAN HEAR YOU, YOU KNOW" Traian called from somewhere behind John. John rolled his eyes again and ignored Traian's comment. Traian and John must be close seeing as they act so casually around each other Efiar thought.

"Whatever, just get ready. They're about to leave for the tour, "John said, turning around and leaving. Efiar shut the door behind him and walked to Epsilon.

"Good morning~" Epsilon chirped as Efiar helped him up.

"You turned off the alarm, didn't you" Efiar said looking at the retro clock on the nightstand.

"You looked exhausted last night. I just wanted you to get enough sleep" He said back smiling.

Efiar rolled her eyes and tossed him a brush she bought the previous night. Epsilon looked at it with dread before trying to tame the jungle on his head. Efiar fixed up her clothes while quietly chuckling at Epsilon's grumbling. She glanced at the bag of supplies they bought last night. They didn't know how much money they had on the card so they only bought the necessities. She went over and dug through the bag separating all the food items from everything else. She glanced around the room for somewhere to hide it. It was a habit she developed when they lived in the small room behind the store. Most of the non-food items would be placed around on the floor to throw off anyone trying to steal their food. On the contrary, the food would usually but higher up since reaching high places wasn' that big of an issue for them. There was a small ledge just above Epsilon's bed. It was small but they didn't have a lot of food to hide anyway. Epsilon had finished combing through his hair and caught on to what Efiar was doing.

"I got it!!! Leave it to me" he jumped up confidently on the bed. Before Efiar could say anything the food was already up there.

Epsilon got off the bed and presented Efiar with a bag. After closer inspection she realized it was the jerky from last night. Epsilon seemed so happy to buy it last night so she decided that it wouldn't hurt to buy it for him, but why is he giving it to her?

"It's a gift for you" He said beaming

"...Just keep it for yourself, you'll probably like it more than me anyway" Efiar sighed pushing the bag back into Epsilon hands.

"Nope, it's for you" He responded, still smiling and quickly pushing it right back.

"...fine" Efiar gave up and put eh bag of jerky on her bed while the two continued to get ready.

The two finished up getting ready and opened the door to their room. Epsilon froze half way through the door blocking Efiar's view of the rest of the dorm. Startled by Epsilon's sudden stop Efiar barely managed to not bump into him. Epsilon swiftly turned around and started hurrying Efiar back into the room.

"I think you should stay inside the room for now" Epsilon said Efiar as he made his way to close the door the door.

Whatever Epsilon saw, he wanted to keep it a secret from her. Before Efiar could ask what was happening, He was out the door. Efiar, confused, tried to figure out what Epsilon was doing. Whatever it was, Her idiotic brother would never be able to hide well,so it didn't take long to find out.

"WHAT IS THAT SNAKE DOING IN HERE? '' Epsilon shouted so loudly that Efiar could hear it clearly despite the door being closed. There goes being secretive. Well at least she knew Epsilon could never change. Since Epsilon didn't want her to know, she would pretend she didn't.

She crept back to her bed and sat down, truth be told, she was still exhausted from yesterday, and was touched by Epsilon's stunt of turning off the alarm clock. She leaned back and laid down. Her hand hit the bag of jerky she threw on the bed before. Efiar picked it up to look at it. It wouldn't hurt to try it, right? She thought as she pulled a small piece from the bag and ate it. It tasted sweet. Too sweet in her opinion. Efiar wasn't very fond of sweets but Epsilon was, so it was no wonder why he liked it so much. Efiar pulled another piece from the bag and ate it. Although she didn't like it, it was still a gift from Epsilon, so she'll still eat it. She noticed that the bag was half full when she got it. It was also already open. Epsilon was probably too tempted and took a bite. He's the only person who would eat someone's gift before giving it to them she laughed as she thought about it. The taste was nostalgic. It was a bittersweet feeling. It was one of the good memories they had after the incident, but at the same time thinking back to those times felt like a punch in the gut.

From a young age, she and him had to rely on each other. They both dealt with their trauma differently. The two became really attached to each other after the incident. Epsilon's trauma manifested through his clingy behavior and staying as cheerful as possible, but Efiar wasn't able to fully show how much she cares for Epsilon, let alone other people. The incident made it hard for her to open up. Epsilon didn't care. He knew his sister loved him and that's all that mattered. She may not show it at every waking moment like him, but she still shows it through smaller acts every once and a while. The two did everything together.

Efiar smiled. Epsilon might be annoying and utterly stupid, but he was still her brother. She laid down and immediately felt sleepy. Efiar felt like sleeping in a bed was terrible. Thinking back, she realized she never actually slept on a bed before this. Aarakocras usually slept in a nest-like stack of soft material. It depended on how close they were to civilization or how knowledgeable they were with sowing and knitting, but usually it was with cotton and feathers. Their original flock was far from civilization and there was no one around to teach them how to make blankets. That being said, they should have known when he arrived.

Efiar pushed all the negative thoughts in her mind away and tried to focus more on the positive memories. Another memory made its way into her mind. Sleeping on the floor was uncomfortable. It was the reason they started to steal in the first place. It was strange that they didn't think to steal food first, but they weren't used to the foods being made in the village. On the contrary, there was a stall selling blankets that were more familiar to what they were used to seeing. Combined with how uncomfortable the floor was, they decided to steal from the stall. It ended in a disaster. Efiar attempted to distract the stall owner while Epsilon grabbed it, but Epsilon tripped halfway through and took the whole stall down with him. It coincidentally stopped a robber being chased by guards and the situation ended in chaos. The robber had robbed some noble and was wanted for a high price. The guards surrounded the area and Efiar panicked trying to look for Epsilon. The stall came down on him and covered him in debris. Looking around he couldn't see anything. The previously calm road was now in complete chaos. People ran in all directions trying to figure out what was happening. Whipping his head around, he called out Efiar's name. He grabbed a blanket that had fallen near him before sprinting to find Efiar. Efiar searched everywhere in the crowd for Epsilon, not even noticing how people were running away. By now everyone has formed a small clearing with the robber and the unfocused Efiar at the center and the guards surrounding the circle. Before she could react, the robber made his way to grab her and use her as a shield. Efiar didn't care. It didn't matter. What mattered to her was that Epsilon was okay. Her eyes whipped around in the crowd looking for a sign that Epsilon was alright. She remembered that the robber had said something in the moment but she didn't pay attention enough to understand. After what felt like years of search she saw Epsilon squeeze his way to the front of the crowd. First he looked shocked, then scared, and then determined. Why exactly, Efiar didn't know but the next thing she knew, he picked up a bunch of rocks and dropped the blanket. Epsilon quickly ran forward using his wings to propel himself forward. He threw the rocks as hard as he can at the robber's hand. Within the few seconds the robber loosened his grip due to the pain, Epsilon quickly pulled Efiar out of his hands and ran back to the blanket. The guards had used this opening to attack the robber and managed to subdue him. Two of them approached Efiar and Epsilon. The twins panicked. Did they get caught stealing? Epsilon, who was still holding Efiar's arm, turned and kicked the first guard right where it hurt and took a large step back with Efiar. The guard wasn't affected much due to his armour, but still reflexively covered his jewels. The second guard found it funny and started laughing, giving Efiar enough time to process the situation and drag Epsilon away before he decided to fight the 2 adults 3 times their size. In the end the two made it out and once they got to a place safe enough in their opinion. They laid down in the blanket and passed out immediately from exhaustion. After the first few years, Efiar and Epsilon got used to the village and no longer struggled with stealing things and getting away but the chaotic event always found a way to make her laugh. She was aware during the event that the robber was threatening to kill her but that almost made the entire situation even funnier to her. Thinking about it put her in a good mood and her sleepiness got to her again.

Epsilon would probably shout for at least 30 minutes, right? That's enough time to take a small nap. Efiar drifted to sleep soon after.

**Meanwhile, outside the room**

John pressed his temples as Epsilon continued to screech about who knows what. From the looks of it, Traian knew why and considering he was the one who went out of his way to invite the naga, he probably caused this drama on purpose. Traian sat there with a smile on his face the whole time. Epsilon shouted for the next 10 minutes before stopping with a huff.

"Why is he here?" He said frustrated

"He's the only non-human recruit that we just hired besides you two so i'm making the three of you partners for now" Traian replied calmly.

The naga looked awkwardly between Epsilon and Traian. Although it seemed like Epsilon was complaining about him to John and Traian who weren't listening, Epsilon was actually complaining about how he thought their allowance for the month was too small and that they ended up spending over half of it last night. It's just that the naga came up way too much in the story that it seemed like he was complaining about them. Of course, Epsilon was originally complaining about the naga, but it shifted over to money within 20 seconds. Epsilon seemed satisfied with Traian's response and turned to address the naga.

"Who are you?" he said as he narrowed his eyes.

"Umm, Setrayva?"

Epsilon looked him up and down. He once again didn't feel any malice coming from the snake. Nevertheless, he couldn't trust him as his intentions were not clear. Setrayva simply stood there and let Epsilon do whatever. Epsilon moved on and quickly shifted his attention to his bedroom. He was surprised that Efiar hadn't come out yet. She rarely listens to him. Rightly so tho, he was always saying nonsense.

Epsilon creaked the door open and peeked in. He smiled as he noticed Efiar sleeping on her bed. Quietly he closed the door, turning around to give John a silly smile.

"Sorry, Efi can't come" He cheered gleefully

"What?" Traian turned his head to the side as he asked

"She's busy" Epsilon responded with a mischievous smile still on his face as john sighed

"Just leave it, We don't need both of you there anyway" John said as he pushed Setrayva and Epsilon to the door

"But-" Traian tried to interject

"Shut it. No more" John shut him down almost immediately

Traian got up unwillingly from the couch and grumbled the entire way to the door. The 4 stopped by the kitchen to get some food as epsilon hadn't eaten yet.

Traian gave up and the group left the twins' dorm. They were a few minutes late but seeing as the guild master was with them, the group definitely didn't leave without them. Sure enough, the group of residents Epsilon and Efiar saw yesterday were still here. As the tour guide saw them, he greeted John and Traian before turning back to the group and starting the tour.
