4 4. Shipwreck and Magikarps Battle

It had been over a month that I've been on this island. I've tested the limits of my abilities and even acquired some good things for my future travels.

Today I was extremely excited as cracks began forming on the pokemon egg and it was moving around like crazy.

I was on the side of the pool I dug for magikarp to live in while holding the satchel that held the egg.

I rested the egg in the soft sand in front of me as I waited for it to hatch.

Time ticked by and at around noon the egg began to crack open.

I felt like a mother duck watching the miracle of my baby being born.

With a small flash of light the egg broke open and in front of me was a red carp with yellow fins. It was about the size of a basketball and sat there with a dumb look on its fish face.

"Karp?" The pokemon was just a baby and being a magikarp probably wasn't really intelligent to begin with.

But that was fine by me.

"Hey Magikarp, I'm Maui. You can think of me as your father."

"Karp? Karp! Karp!" It didn't change its facial expression much but I could tell it was happy. At least it understood what I meant.

"Alright, Magikarp this pool will be your home for awhile. Hungry?"

Magikarp flopped into the pool and swam around before surfacing.

"Karp, Karp!" He began opening and closing his wide mouth, so I took that as a signal he could eat.

I pulled out a few of the food pellets I made for him and asked him what he preferred.

Magikarp looked at the food pellets and then gestured for all of them.

"Uh... okay. I'll just start making the ones that have higher amounts of protein. You'll become a strong Gyarados in no time!"

The Magikarp ate the food happily while I daydreamed of the day he reaches evolution.

'The sea will tremble at the might of Maui and the legendary sea king he has for a pet. I really should wish for an instruction manual on teaching him powerful moves... for now, he's a newborn so I'll give him a few weeks of proper diet and light excercise.'

I left Magikarp in his pool and went into the ocean for a swim. I decided today I would explore a nearby island for any treasure.

I had the compass hanging around my neck and intended to check its efficiency at finding loot.

I swam about 30 miles from Maui Island, which is what I named it, and found a slightly bigger island than my own. With my swimming speed it only took a few minutes.

It had a thick jungle and looked to be home to some strong animals.

Once I emerged from the sea and stepped onto the warm sands, I opened the compass and focused my desire.

'Valuable treasure on this island is what I want...'

I repeated that line like a mantra and I started seeing the compass spin a bit and start pointing inland.

"Nice! There might something valuable here after all."

I walked into the island while whistling a tune.

I could feel the gazes of the wildlife, some was cautious while others were more predatory.

I didn't let them affect me though. I'm pretty sure I'm the strongest creature on this island. That might be why those predators haven't attacked me yet. Animals can sense things better than humans, right?

There was no signs of humans being in this place anytime recently or ever. There were some paths that were made by the local animals but nothing that would suggest humans had been there.

That was until I reached the center of the island.

On a tall pointed rock was an old ship that was pierced through by the rock.

It was split in half and and folded over the pointed rock.

Nature had claimed the ship as vines and foliage grew all over it.

The shipwreck must have been there for a long time.

"It looks like it fell from the sky... Did it fall off an island cloud or did a hurricane throw it here?" Realizing the pointlessness of my curiosity, my thoughts then moved to what may be inside.

The wood of the ship was rotted and I could easily tear through debris to reach the important areas.

In the hold there was destroyed cargo boxes that were once tied down and were now in just pieces.

It looked like there was food stored in most of them, now obviously gone, a few rusty cannons, and even a few rusty sabers.

I was disappointed to not find anything valuable there, but I still held hope for the captains quarters.

I had to jump around the rock to get the other half of the ship.

Inside the captain's quarters I found a few skeletons of what could possibly been the captain and his first mate.

Much like the rest of the ship the captains quarters were dilapidated and destroyed. However I did find an old treasure chest buried under the floor boards.

I moved the chest outside and snapped the old rusty lock with my bare hands.

The chest was so old and rusty that the metal lining had fused together so I had to practically crack it open like a walnut.

When I got the lid of the chest off, I was surprised by what I found.

A devil fruit wrapped in an old cloth, a handful of golden coins that appeared to be tribal in origin, and a few pairs of ladies underwear...

"What the fuck? Was the captain a pervert that collected these?"

They were pretty much destroyed and useless as the rest of the crappy ship but the devil fruit and the gold coins were definitely coming with me. I didn't want some old great grandmas underwear. If I want panties I'll go find a young certified baddie and have her let me take them off her...

*ahem*

Brushing off my thoughts, I turned to look the devil fruit, but something inside me felt sick just looking at it.

It looked weird like all devil fruits and I have no idea what kind it is, but the very thought of eating it made something within me disgusted.

My instincts were flaring not to eat the thing.

'Is it because of my connection to the sea?'

That felt right. Like the sea's hatred for this thing was being shared to me.

'Dang... I was hoping I could eat a devil fruit eventually but it looks like these things dont agree with my body... Well even if I cant eat them, perhaps my future comrades could. Or I could sell it.'

I stowed today's spoils into my satchel and headed back to Maui Island. My fish child is due for a lunch.

.-.-.-3rd POV-.-.-.

Meanwhile, on Maui Island...

Magikarp was swimming in circles in a relaxed manner, minding his own business.

However a decent sized crab emerged from the ocean and began observing the pool.

Food?

The crab saw magikarp and decided to see the newborn pokemon as food. The crab was about the same size as Magikarp but had deadly pincers.

Magikarp noticed the crab but being a newborn did not yet know the laws of the wild.

He had yet to know the dynamics between predators and prey.

"Karp?" The fish swam towards the crab to greet him but barely dodged a snapping claw in the process.

Magikarp suddenly felt threatened and confused. His instincts told him there was danger so he swam away inside his pool.

The crab had not even come close to giving up and scurried along the bottom of the pool to catch him.

Magikarp is not the most intelligent species of pokemon. But he is still a fish that evolves into a sea dragon and much like Gyarados can become angry pretty easily.

"Karp!"

Magikarp was tired of being chased, he decided to use his ultimate move.

[Magikarp used splash!]

"Karp!" As he used his ultimate attack, he though the battle would have been over however...

[The move did nothing...]

"KARP?!" (NANI?!)

The crab didn't know what the fish was doing by flopping around but he swiped his claw out and snagged the fishs fin.

"Karp!" (Pain!)

The crab managed to knick his fin which caused Magikarp to feel pain the first time since birth, which was a few hours ago. Fortunately, the fin wasn't held by the crab allowing Magikarp to flee to the other side of the pool.

He was fuming at this point. This intruder came into his pool and hurt him. If he was a Gyarados, he have been rampaging over everything by this point.

"Karp! Karp, Karp!" (Stupid crabby thing! Die!)

[Magikarp used tackle.]

Magikarp glowed for a moment and he rushed at the crab at high speed.

The crab didn't have time to react before being squashed to death by Magikarp.

[It was super effective! Enemy Crab has fainted... err, died!]

.-.-.-1st POV-.-.-.

I returned with the few spoils I had found and prepared to go visit Magikarp to feed him.

However, when I go to the pool to feed him, I saw he was already eating.

"Uh, Magikarp... where did you get that?" Magikarp was munching on something but I could see a crab leg hanging out of his mouth...

"Karp..."

It seemed he didn't have much to say about it. I decided to add crab meat to his food pellets from now on...
