Chapter 3

Only Love Can Tell

I and Ivy entered our different cars and drove off. I went home and alighted from the car. I entered the house and met no one at home as usual. I tried calling my mom but she didn't pick up her phone. I called my dad but it wasn't reachable as well.

Argghhh!!!! I screamed as i threw my phone across the living room. I fell to the ground and started crying and that's when Nancy ( my personal maid and also a mother figure to me) came to me and squatted beside me.

Sweetie! What happened? She asked and i broke down in tears again.

Where's mum and dad? I asked while trying to clean my tears but they ended up pouring.

They're still at work. They said they'll be back by 12pm; Nancy said and i sniffed.

Nancy! I called and she looked at me. Am i bad? Am i a useless daughter? Am i worthless? I asked with tears still coming out of my eyes.

No you're not sweetie. You're a lovable child. You're not useless and you're definitely not worthless; she said and i shook my head sideways.

But that isn't what mum and dad thinks. If that's what i am then why don't they love me? Why are they always not home with me. Why don't they care for me. Anytime i call them they never pick. They never answer my call. Remember that time that i got injured when i was in grade 3, the teachers called them but where were they? They didn't come so it's you who came. Nancy please tell me why they hate me; i said hurtfully while sobbing and she hugged me.

Don't mind them sweetie. They're not worth a sweet and lovable person like you. I don't know why they don't have time for you but i assure you that am here for you. Your parents can choke on their business for all i care but one thing am sure of is that I'll love and protect you always; Nancy said and i smiled before pulling out of the hug. She wiped my tears and i smiled at her.

Thank you Nancy. I love you so much; i said.

I know. Now go freshen up and come back downstairs for dinner; she said and i nodded.

I went to carry my phone and i saw a little crack on it. I sighed before going upstairs to my room. I entered the restroom and took a quick shower before brushing my teeth. I came out with a towel tied around my chest as i went to my closet. I brought out a pink night gown and brought out a pink robe. I put them on before going downstairs as the scent of roasted chicken with jollof rice filled my nostrils.

Hmm! This smells delicious. What's for dinner?; i said and asked immediately i came to the dining and i pulled out one of the chairs as i sat down. She brought the food and i smiled because it was my favorite.

Awwn! You cooked my favorite. Thanks Nancy; i said with a smile.

You're welcome. Now eat; she said and was about to leave when I stopped her.

Nancy! Come and join me. Do you want me to eat alone? I said and asked and she shaked her head sideways and i smiled.

She came and pulled out one of the chairs before sitting as well. We began eating and we gisted a little. Nancy even cracked some jokes and our laughter filled the room. When we were done, i helped her with the dishes then told her good night before going upstairs. I took off my robe before climbing the bed before using the duvet to cover myself as i drifted to sleep.

THE NEXT MORNING

I woke up with a bright smile on my face. I got down from bed and went to have a shower. I took my bath and brushed my teeth. I came out with a towel tied around my chest as i went to the closet. I brought out a black bum short and a white short hand crop top. I brought out a black jacket and wore a black nike canvas. I put my clothes on before spraying perfume then adding a little makeup. I brushed my hair before packing it in two ponytails leaving two at the front. I put on my silver wristwatch, put my phone in my handbag, carried my handbag and went downstairs. The table was set but my parents weren't there. I sighed before going to have a seat. I ate in silence and when i was done, i left the house and entered my car before driving off. I arrived at the school and alighted from my car before going into the school. I was walking through the hall while pressing my phone not looking where i was going wen i bumped into a hard chest and i was about reaching the ground when held my waist and pulled me to this chest preventing me from falling and i stared into those blue eyes and he stared at me too. Suddenly, my heart started beating really fast and i couldn't understand it. He said something and that's when i came back to reality and pulled out of his grip.

Uhm! I'm... He interrupted.

Save your apologies. Don't you see at all? He asked.

I'm sorry okay. I was so caught up with some issues that i didn't look where i was going; i explained.

Whatever! Next time, look where you're going if not you might end up falling on the ground; he said and started walking away.

Jerk! I mumbled and at that moment he turned to look at me.

What did you say? He asked coming closer and i took to my heels as i ran away. I arrived at the class breathing heavily and at that moment i sighted Ivy and i went to her. We talked and gisted and then Arnaldo came into the class then the Mrs Ina came into the class and biology class began.

The rays of the sun pierced my eyes as i got up from bed. I started remembering that annoying Arnaldo. He maybe cute and all but he's one hell of a jerk and I'll make sure i deal with him today; i thought with a smirk. I went to my restroom, took my bath and brushed my teeth. I came out of the restroom with a towel tied around my chest as i went to the closet. I brought out a white long sleeve crop top with a white baggy jeans. I carried a white jacket and a white Nike canvas. I put on my clothes, sprayed a little perfume and applied a little makeup. I packed my hair in a messy bun as u brought two strands of hair at the front. I wore a golden wristwatch, carried my phone, carried my white handbag and went downstairs but i was shocked because I didn't see anyone. I ran to lily's room but she wasn't there so i decided to call mum.

📱 Hello sweetie! How are you? She asked.

📱 I'm good. Emm mum, where did you and Lily go? I asked.

📱 Ohh that! I took Lily to school and i went to work from there. Sorry for not telling you but you were still sleeping and I didn't want to disturb you; she said and i sighed.

📱 No problem mum. Good bye and be safe; i said.

📱 Okay dear. Bye!! She said and ended the call.

The maids already prepared breakfast so I went to the dining table and began to eat. When i was done, i left the house and entered my car before zooming off. I arrived at the school and i began walking fast because i I'm already late. I was walking but I didn't look where I was going when I bumped into someone and i staggered back. I looked up only to see that jerk again.

You!! We both called at the same time.

Didn't you see where you were going? I asked him.

I did. But why do you girls like bumping into me anyways? Or perhaps are you trying to steal something? He asked.

What do you mean by that? Why would I wanna steal from someone like you? I snapped.

I don't know. I should be asking you; he said with a smirk and i felt like punching him.

Whatever. But... Who's this other girl that bumped into you? I asked.

Well i didn't get to know her name. Anyways, I'll be heading to class; he said and walked away.

I hissed at him before running past him heading to class. I went to sit down on my chair and then Anna came to me. We laughed and talked about random stuffs before Arnaldo entered the class followed by Mrs Ina. The class commenced and i paid a lot of attention to what she was teaching.

After biology was chemistry then English then finally break. I yawned tiredly and then i got up. I noticed a girl staring at me but i shrugged it off. I and Anna left the class together and we went to the cafeteria. I ordered chicken wings and pineapple juice while Anna ordered fried egg and sauce with apple juice. We carried our tray of food and went to sit down. We were laughing and gisting and then my eyes travelled to the same girl who was staring at me and i caught her still staring. I sighed and looked away and my gaze landed on Arnaldo who was sitting alone and i was kinda feeling bad for him.

Anna! Let's seat with Arnaldo. He seems lonely; i said.

Okay then; Anna said and we carried our tray of food and sat down facing Arnaldo.

We know you're feeling lonely plus you're new here so we came to keep you company; I said.

Whatever! He said and continued eating. I continued my meal and I looked at Anna to see her staring at Arnaldo before looking away. I looked around to see if i could see that girl but I didn't see her. I turned to my left and i let out a big gasp when i saw her there sitting on the chair near me with a smile.
