One Day Meeting

There she is standing, a beautiful young woman in her late twenties. She's alone only looking at her phone. She's taking pictures and laughing, not seeing that others are taking badly of her.

She saw me and turned her head away, in a blink of an eye, she's standing next to me.

"I wanted to meet other people as well, but no one wants to approach me today." - She smiled at me.

"I wanted to meet people who have the same hobbies as me, but I don't have much time." -She added.

"But, you are happy alone right?" -I added.

"I wanted to be happy alone, but I don't think I can do it alone." -She added.

We talked about our problems, insecurities and the mistakes we did before. And then she said goodbye and didn't even say her name. I didn't ask her how she is feeling, I didn't ask her if she wanted to be my friend. She just left in silence as if I'll never see her again. I actually never seen her again. I'd visit the same place again and again and again. But she was nowhere to be seen.

I visited every week the same spot, I'd take pictures just the way she took the pictures before. I would wait for her for a hour, then two then three then four, but she was nowhere to be found. We talked about everything and she listened to me, I never asked her anything. I should have been asking her many questions but I didn't. She actually didn't wait for me to ask her anything she just listened to me and nodded her hair.

Her phone rang and she went away, and that's the last time I seen her again.

Four weeks later, I was in the hospital bringing my mother on a check up and I heard:

"No one came for the brown haired woman that died four weeks ago. Her belongings are still here in the hospital. Doesn't she have family or friends?"

Another nurse sadly added:

"Her parents died and the other family members doesn't care about her. They didn't visit her even once."

I turned my head as I hear what they said and left my mother behind.

"Mother, wait here I'll be right back."

I ran towards them trying to ask a question but nothing was coming from my mouth. I finally got to say what I wanted.

"D-Do you have a picture of her? Can I see her room?"

A nurse added: "Yes, I do have a picture of her. We took pictures together daily."

She showed me the pictures and it was her, my heard felt the pain I never felt before. I fell on the floor and didn't know what to do.

"What, do you know her?" -Another nurse added.

"I do know her, but only for a one day."

"Oh dear, she does that a lot. But I guess she approached you first, didn't she?"

"Can I take her belongings if no one else will?" -I got up and added to them.

"Well of course you can, I think you are the one we have been waiting for!"

The nurse took my hand and showed me her room.

"She's called Valerie, by the way." -The nurse added and smiled.

The nurse gave me everything in a big box that was left on her bed.

"I just want you to know that she didn't cry until the very end." -A different nurse added.

"She smiled didn't she?" -I added.

"We wouldn't give you the box, until we saw something in it that's yours." -A nurse gave me a serious look.

"Something that's mine?" -I looked shocked.

"Indeed, we'll go you can check it yourself." -Then she gave the others look and closed the door.

I opened the box and started bringing out everything that was in it. I saw another bag and it was the bag she took her photos. There was photos of nature, animals, some views, buildings.

"Wait, what's this?"

"There is a photo of me staring at the sky."

Then something fell of the boy and it was a letter, on it was written.

'To the one I met that day'

"For me? Did she actually wait for me to come?"

'I think you'll show up eventually. I didn't want to tell you what's up with me and to give myself a false hope like I did year ago. I know that I should have told you everything but I somehow didn't want to see you cry, because you felt like a good and a great guy. I liked you for a long time. I actually fell in love with you half a year ago, you visited the same place and looked at the sky the same way. And I'm sorry that I took some photos of you, the photos are yours anyway. I hope you'll always remember me as someone who'll be there for you no matter what happened to me. I'll watch you and I hope you won't be sad over this and be happy that we met at least once. That day was a real blessing for me. Thank you for being there for me.

Your dear Valerie, the one you meet for one day.'

I never cried like this in my life. I couldn't stop crying and I didn't know how to stop crying. Then I saw another gift left by her:

'Your pictures and my memories'

I opened and saw where she was and what she saw. Behind every photo she wrote the day, time and her quote. For my photo it was:

'My last and final love'.

I put every in the box and took it with me. I thanked the nurses and went to my mother. She was waiting outside smiling at me brightly.

I was sad, very sad, but she was happy meeting me.

I put all of her photos on my wall in gallery center and wrote everything under the pictures.

The gallery of photos was called: 'Enternal memories of Valerie'...

And so, that's how our story ended.
