28 Chapter 28 - Falling Star

Terumi made his way to training ground number 3 and stood in the middle of the field underneath the starry night sky.

"Okay Ama, go sit by the tree. What I'll be attempting will be dangerous."

Amaterasu mewed in agreement once more and skittled over towards the tree.

"Okay first, let's test how far I can take this."

Terumi prepared himself and bent his knees.

"Soru!"

Stepping ten times on the ground in a swift motion, Terumi disappeared from his location and reappeared forty meters away in a blink of an eye.

"Not bad, what about Geppo?"

Terumi leaped high into the night sky and then focusing energy into his core, he sent out a powerful kick and stepped on the air. He repeated this motion several times and flew around for a minute before landing on the ground once more.

"Okay, nice. Now time for the real test."

Terumi jumped into the air once more and used Geppo to sustain himself in the air. He then started utilizing his Breath of Sun and focused power into his legs.

"Kamisori!"

Terumi tried to perform Soru while in the air using Geppo, but the moment he tried, he simply just moved forward slightly faster, failing to achieve the speeds he wanted.

"Hmm. Okay, what about Breath of Thunder?"

Terumi switched his breathing style and pumped more power into his legs.

"Kamisori!"

Terumi's leg muscles bulged and then he disappeared in mid-air successfully performing a preliminary Kamisori by stepping on the air five times.

Terumi disappeared from his position in mid-air and reappeared twenty meters away. He then landed on the ground once more.

"Okay well, that worked, kind of. But I don't want to give up Breath of Sun's overall balance just to perform Kamisori, my attacking power would suffer. I guess it's time to try my theory."

Terumi held Asahi in his hand tightly, while he himself relaxed his breathing.

'Let's start slowly. First, Breath of Sun as the base.'

Hissss

'Then, Breath of Thunder to improve my mobility.'

Thump Thump Thump

Terumi's heartbeat started going faster as his blood started pumping at high speeds to incorporate the second breathing style.

'Calm down, I must relax, combine them into one.'

Terumi stood still for close to half an hour, trying to incorporate both breathing styles into one, manipulating his body and oxygen levels to send 40% of the oxygen into his legs and the rest for his body. Compared to normal Breath of Thunder that used about a 50/25/25 ratio for legs, upper, and middle of the body, this is a little less but much more than the balanced ratio of Breath of Sun, which equally balanced upper, middle, and lower body 33% each.

'Now, that I'm more familiar with mixing ratios, let's add one final one.'

'Breath of Flame.'

Terumi's lungs nearly burst with the sudden influx of oxygen required to maintain three breathing styles at the same time.

'This is tough, my blood veins feel like they're about to burst. I need to adjust it down. I want to go for a ratio of 40/20/40 for upper, middle, and lower body. From there, in order to maintain a strong enough base to sustain it, I'll have to just sustain a higher level of oxygen than normal compared to Breath of Sun.'

Terumi breathed in and out, slowly but surely, it became more relaxed, his body getting used to the increased oxygen levels.

After nearly two hours of standing in the middle of the field, he finally achieved the result he wanted.

"Haa. Haa. Okay. Now, what do I call this new breathing style? I'm using Breath of Sun's balance and high oxygen consumption as a base and increased it from there by incorporating the speed of Thunder and power of Flame. It's safe to say that it's too far removed from any of the current breathing styles, so it needs a new name. What do I envision it as?"

Terumi looked up as he thought, staring into the night sky. At that moment, a shooting star flew by, its shining figure caught Terumi's eye.

"A shooting star..."

Terumi closed his eyes and then started his breath once more.

Hissssss

Terumi opened his eyes and unsheathed Asahi. He dashed forward at high speed and swung his sword forward with all his might.

A giant flying slash flew out like a ray of light at incredible speed, slashing through the ground and leaving a crevice behind that was 100 meters long.

"Yes, that's what I'll call you. Fast like a speeding comet through the night sky, powerful like a meteor impact, Hoshi no Kokyu! (Breath of Star)"

Upon deciding his new breath style, Terumi's Haki burst forward as his breathing stabilized, shifted, and changed into a new form, creating its final completed version.

Asahi then shined brightly in his hand, as if enjoying the new power.

"And for my first move! Just like the inspiration I saw today, I shall borrow it!"

Terumi jumped high into the sky and used Geppo, sustaining himself in the air.

'Breath of Star, First form!'

Terumi's blood started pumping, Asahi started shining and the mark on his forehead grew.

"Nagareboshi! (Falling Star)"

Terumi used Kamisori and dashed towards the ground at blinding speeds like a ray of light, a meteor soaring towards the earth, swinging his sword down with one powerful vertical slash using all of his built-up momentum.

BOOM!

A huge crater formed from the force of his swing. When the dust settled, there stood Terumi in the middle of a 10-meter wide crater, from his sword swing, giant crevice extending 150 meters, all the way past the end of the field.

"Whew. That's almost a mile long."

Happy with his progress, Terumi walked over to the tree where Ama slept, not even the commotion from Terumi's giant sword swing could wake it up.

"Heh, not a care in the world huh?"

Terumi fell backward and laid on the grass. As he stared into the night sky, thankful for its inspiration, he fell asleep.
