2 Chapter 2: Rules

~ Year 1487 ~

Inside of a nice and spacious yard, a young girl with blonde hair ran through the courtyard.

In front of her, a lanky man with glasses ran from her while displaying silly expressions of his face.

"Look out Dad, I'm going to catch you!" The young girl said with determination.

"Sorry Star, but my ship will let me get away from you." John said, his smile fading as he glanced at the house to see his wife standing at him with an angry expression upon her face.

"JOHN!! What did I tell you about playing Marine and Pirate with Star!? Come on Star, we're going to go eat some ice cream while your father cleans up the house." Ann said as Star left behind her, leaving John to look at Star with a betrayed expression.

Star entered the house as she began to reflect on the first 3 years of her life.

She was originally horrified about the fact that she had been reborn in the World of Pirates, a world that showcased it's cruelty fully in the background and not fully in the main story.

Just because Luffy's adventure focused on the joys of being a pirate, didn't mean that everyone adhered to this rule. 

Thankfully, Cathleen, now named Star, had been reborn into the era between the time of Rocks and the Great Age of Pirates, letting her live a somewhat decent life.

Star still hadn't decided on what path her life would go, but she decided to leave it to fate as she enjoyed the comfort of something she didn't have in her past life: a family.

John finally entered the kitchen with the two of them, him seemingly finished with all the cleaning. 

"I'm about to go into town Ann. Take care of our little Star while I'm gone." He said as he kissed both of their forheads before leaving.

Star then asked her mother if she could go back outside, and after some slight hesitation, Ann agreed to her daughter's request, though she went outside with her.

However, just as the two touched the soil of the backyard, a powerful wind blew that knocked Ann off her feet.

But instead of harming Star, it brought a strange looking fruit, one adorned with red and blue patterns upon it, to her feet.

Star picked up the fruit and began inspected it, as she realized that this was a Devil Fruit, a great treasure of the world.

And seeing the supernatural event that had occured to bring her the fruit, she figured that the light sent it to her.

'I wonder if it's as bad as the anime said.' Star thought as she bit into the fruit.

But, Star nearly vomited the fruit out as she tasted the horridness of it on her tounge.

'IT TASTE LIKE SHIT!! No, even that would be offensive to shit. I don't know what that thing is made out of. Why would the world even make something that bad. And if the light is the one who sent it to me, WHY COULDN'T IT REMOVE THE TASTE!!!'

Star could swear she heard slight laughter in the wind, though she paid it no attention as her mother was finally able to get back up.

"Star!! Are you alright? Where the hell does a gust of wind like that even come from?" Ann said as she ran to Star to ensure she was fine.

However, as she lifted her up, she noticed the strange fruit that was on the ground, with it seeming as if a bite was taken out of it.

She then looked at her daughter's still disgusted face.

"S-Star, did you take a bite of that fruit?" Ann asked.

Star just nodded her head while still gagging as if she was about to vomit.

Ann then immediately took her daughter into their house as she ensure she was fine.

She then went to opposite side of the couch as she began to explain that what Star ate was a Devil Fruit, a treasure of the sea, though something that also carries a curse that won't allow her to swim ever again.

However, Star was a bit preoccupied as she realized what her fruit was, and the sheer absurdity of it shocked her deeply.

"Do you know what your fruit does or even it's type, Star?" Ann asked.

"Yeah Mom, it's a Paramecia Devil Fruit. The Rule-Rule Fruit. It allows me to place a rule on anything that I touch as long as I say it aloud." Star said, though her mind was thinking of how broken the fruit was.

The fruit sounded extremely powerful, with Star already imagining a possible way in which she could use it successfully.

'Theoretically, if I used this fruit correctly, I could even use the powers of other Devil Fruits.' Star thought as she dreamed of a day she performed a motion similar to Whitebeard.

However, her thoughts were broken as her mother stared at her with extreme intensity.

"Star, tell no one, not even your father about your powers. If he does realize, just place one of these rules you have onto yourself and make it seem as if your power was something else. Your power places you in a grave amount of danger, and that is something I don't wish for you to go through. Can you promise me that you won't tell anyone?" Ann asked her daughter.

Star then realized the real life implications that such a fruit could bring making her nod in agreement.

Ann then hugged her daughter before picking her up and saying

"Now let's go cook something to eat."

The duo went into the kitchen, letting Ann prepare a feast, while Star sat on the countertop.

'Sorry Mom, but I'll have to train my fruit so that I can protect you.' Star thought with childish determination as she attempted to look serious, though it only made her appear even cuter.
