Barriers

I know a lot of science gets boring, this is the last chapter that's basically going to be dedicated to science since it was just training. Now it's going to be Nyx doing awesome feats, with me doing a quick concise explanation of how it works! Let me know if you have questions!

________________________________________-

It's been 2 weeks since Nyx arrived at Vegapunks island, in these past two weeks he learned the atoms that make up different types of elements, so now he can consciously manipulate certain elements on a larger scale than before, such as air, earth, electricity, and more.

But after fainting 2 weeks ago from the brain being strained beyond its limits, Vegapunk started to adjust Nyx's regimen so that wouldn't happen again, while Nyx was still working like a slave, over 18 hours a day, he would take breaks in the middle and train his combat skills.

His brain would only get over-strained once he continuously learned new vectors and elements, so Nyx would simply train the elements he already knew and also train his physical combat skills.

****

Currently, Nyx and Vegapunk were back in the large empty metallic training room.

They were standing face to face as they spoke and if one looked closely streaks of white were starting to overtake Nyx's brown hair.

He and Vegapunk were already used to it and assumed this was because of his assimilation with his hybrid form, and they estimated that in 2 weeks his looks would probably drasticlly change, but Nyx himself didn't care much.

Nyx was simply wearing a white shirt and black sweatpants with white bandages covering his eyes.

Vegapunk was also wearing his usual attire, a pepperoni-designed shirt, white lab coat, and black dress pants.

"So what are we starting this week?" Nyx questioned as he yawned and put his hands behind his head.

"Since we used a lot of time getting you accustomed to the elements, for these last 2 weeks, we're gonna focus on the more important things, such as your passive/conscious vector barrier, abilities to increase your physical force, and other different types of forces." Vegapunk replied.

Nyx nodded as he put his hands into his pockets.

"Okay first we're gonna focus on your passive barrier, do you have control over it?" Vegapunk questioned.

"Yeah, I can turn it off anytime I want, but since it isn't wasting my Haki but simply recycling it, I saw no need to turn it off. But one thing I noticed the past few weeks was that if I'm fully concentrated on something, it turns off by it's self. I can still consciously activate it, I would simply have to break concentration on whatever I was doing." Nyx explained.

"I see, I see, anything else?" Vegapunk jotted some notes down into his journal before looking back up at Nyx.

"Yeah, once I start filtering certain vectors, my passive barrier uses Haki in order to automatically defend me when my Observation Haki senses danger. But in order for it to actually work, I'll have to create a filter system that it automatically uses but their is a limit." Nyx stated.

Vegapunk looked at Nyx curiously, indicating for him to continue.

"Which basically means that I can do the calculation right now but I can only block to the extent of how powerful I am. Just like with the elements, while I now know how to manipulate them, I still need to train in order to increase their magnitude so they can become truly powerful. "

Vegapunk was about to speak but Nyx raised his hand, indicating to let him finish.

"For example, if I Iearn the maximum amount of UV radiation that reaches the ground, if possible, I can do the calculations right now which would entail me figuring out how many electrons/protons would be needed to absorb said UV radiation and I would basically filter it into my subconscious mind which handles the enforcing and would automatically bring in the sufficient amount of electrons/protons to absorb the UV radiation if need be in the future."

"And my subconscious itself will calculate what it has to do depending on the situation, as long as I've already prepared the information beforehand. But if the element is unknown or maybe it's too powerful, I will have to manually block it." Nyx explained as he had a smug smile on his face.

"Hmph. It seems your getting smarter by the day, young Nyx." Vegapunk snorted with a slight smile as he wrote down the stuff Nyx explained.

"Okay since you already understood that, we'll train that for last since that simply involves calculations." Vegapunk stated as he looked up from his journal.

Nyx gave a thumbs-up as he patiently waited for the doctor.

"Okay! Now for your vector barrier, tell me about it." Vegapunk questioned as intently looked at Nyx.

"Nothing much to say, it's pretty similar to my passive barrier but much more stronger and harder to do." Nyx shrugged.

"How come it's harder?" Vegapunk questioned with an intrigued expression.

"It's harder because since I manually have to control it, the calculations are in real-time, because of the fact that the only reason I should ever use my conscious barrier, is if the attack is either too powerful for my subconscious mind to stop or if it's an unknown element. My Observation Haki will immediately warn me as soon as such a situation happens." Nyx finished explaining as he boredly sat down on the ground.

Vegapunk continuously nodded as he was writing.

"Okay for now let's try your passive barrier, I have something simple for you to calculate that shouldn't need you to consciously block it."

"Okay, what is it?" Nyx questioned as he didn't bother getting up and simply laid on his back with his arms crossed as he listened.

Usually, Vegapunk would get mad at this but he eventually noticed that even though it may seem like Nyx isn't paying attention, he truly is, so as long as he shows results, Vegapunk could care less about what he's doing.

Vegapunk suddenly took out a remote from his pocket and pressed a button as a metal machine came out from the ground, it looked similar to a pitching machine that is used in baseball and beside it a table came out from the ground with a small rock.

"Simply put, since you use Haki for your barriers, this shouldn't be too hard. I want you to filter your passive barrier so that it will protect you from things with a certain momentum. I have a rock right here that weighs about 10 pounds and I'm going to put it in this machine that will launch it at you at over 50 miles per hour. [Momentum = Mass x Velocity], so in this situation, it would be, [Momentum = 10 x 50] but this is where it gets confusing, while it's normal to automatically think 500 will be the end of this, in this case, it is not. Since we have to convert it into a type of force and in this situation I'm going to use Newtons which are basically just the amount of force something exerts onto an object."

Nyx was still laying on the ground with his blindfold as he intently listened.

"So in order to do this, we will divide,[500/(Velocity/Mass] in order to convert this into Newtons. So, [500/(50/100] equals to 101.39 N*s, or newton force. And 101.39 newtons force can be converted to a type of weight unit like pounds or kilograms, for now, I'll use pounds. So I'd roughly say 101.39 newtons force converted to pounds.... = 22.8 pound-force." Vegapunk stated as he did all the calculations in his head.

"Show off..." Nyx chuckled as he was already used to Vegapunk's amazing brain.

"Haha maybe, but in all seriousness, that means you simply have to filter in your brain to exert at least around 22.8 pounds of Haki from your barrier in order to balance it and stop it, and if you want to redirect it, you can simply exert much more power then 22.8 pounds." Vegapunk chuckled before getting serious.

"Alright give me a sec." Nyx concentrated on his subconscious mind and did as Vegapunk said, after a few minutes of creating the filter system, and adding his first Vector which was Newtons or in more simple terms, the exertion of force by manipulating Haki, Nyx was finally ready.

'If I was told this when I first came here, I would have been quite confused but It seems the more I learn and gets stronger, the more my brain grows.' Nyx inwardly thought before getting up and stretching his arms up as he stood directly ahead of the pitcher, about a few meters away.

"Remember, don't get scared and suddenly manually activate the barrier, you need to trust that your passive barrier will protect you." Vegapunk remarked as he put the rock inside the pitcher and was ready to press the start button.

Nyx simply smirked and patiently waited with his hands in his pockets.

"3."

"2."

"1."

As soon as number 1 left Vegapunk's mouth, he pressed the start button.

Poof!

The machine instantly launched the rock toward the smirking Nyx.

As soon as the rock entered a few feet near Nyx...

The rock was instantly flung back at unimaginable speeds.

Clank!

The rock crashed against the metal wall but simply pierced through it, and flew outside at blinding speeds, as it disappeared into the horizon.

"What the f*ck?"

Vegapunk looked toward the small hole that was allowing the cold air to enter before glancing toward the ever-confident Nyx.

"Was that really necessary? We don't have insurance so I have to fix it myself." Vegapunk grumbled as he pulled out a snail from his pocket before contacting some robots to fix it.

After he called for someone to repair it, Vegapunk quickly returned to teacher mode.

"While that was a bit excessive, you seemed to have used much more force to redirect it than needed but what should I expect from you, tsk." Vegapunk muttered while clicking his tongue.

"Okay since you seem to not need much help in terms of your passive barrier, let's move on to your conscious barrier, I'll make it quick and concise now because I'm going to make you train it later today with your passive barrier."

"But simply put-"

"Actually I have an idea." Nyx cut off Vegapunk before he could continue.

Vegapunk just looked at Nyx weirdly for a few seconds before speaking.

"They grow up so fast." Vegapunk rolled his eyes as he indicated with his hands for Nyx to continue.

"Well after doing some personal research these past weeks by myself whenever I get a chance, I learned about Nuclear Fission. You probably already know what it is but I'll still say it regardless, it's when a neutron collides with an atom and separates said atom into 2, which in turn, will weaken the atoms themselves but it will also release a large amount of energy because of the excitement/speed of being separated. The nuclei in each atom will also attempt to absorb said neutrons that I am manipulating."

Vegapunk nodded in understanding, waiting for Nyx to continue.

"But what if I used Nuclear Fission as a deterrent system? Imagine I used neutrons to collide against atoms but I will also have to have good control to not allow the nuclei in the atoms to absorb the Neutron which would in turn separate the atoms and cause them to go around me but it would still create energy that could explode, so to perfectly stop it, what if-"

Vegapunk's eyes widened as he cut off Nyx.

"You stop the atoms from releasing energy and exploding around you by manually stopping the atoms with your vector control once they're close enough! Of course! How come I hadn't thought of that?!" Vegapunk exclaimed as he couldn't help but admire Nyx's growth.

Nyx simply nodded with a smile at Vegapunks words.

"Ahem! Since you seem to already know that stuff, we will go over it later, when we actually start training your barriers later today." Vegapunk coughed awkwardly as he told Nyx his plans.

"We haven't tried to practice manipulating the direction of something physical like a pen much, so, here catch!" Vegapunk threw the pen in his hands toward Nyx, who caught it with one hand.

"This shouldn't be too hard, I simply want you to twist it into any direction you want and then put it back to normal by manipulating the atoms inside to whatever direction you want with not too much force." Vegapunk explained.

Nyx simply held the pen with one hand while putting his opposite hand in front of the pen as he barely flicked it.

Snap!

Once he lightly flicked it, the pen suddenly snapped in half but it wasn't broken yet, as it barely hung off the side of the other half of the pen.

Nyx awkwardly chuckled at putting too much strength into the small flick.

"*Sigh*, It's fine, just put it back straight, that'll show me your at least capable of doing it."

Nyx listened to Vegapunk and as he was holding the pen with his left hand, it suddenly swung back up as it connected to the bottom half of the pen even though it was still broken.

"Good." Vegapunk nodded as he had another pen on him and wrote stuff in his journal.

"Now we will start training for the things that can help your physical attributes, like using kinetic energy to dash at high speeds, or by simply increasing the momentum of your punch which would considerably make it stronger.

"Get ready because in these last 2 weeks, I'm gonna work you like a slave!" Vegapunk grinned as his white teeth shined.
