7 More Training

"Ahh!!!" Luffy got scared by Garp.

He dropped the boxes and the cutlass he stole. They fell onto the wooden boat. Luffy took one last look at them before facing Garp who was wearing pajamas and a sleeping cap.

"H-hey g-grandpa." Luffy smiled at him nervously. Garp picked him up and looked at him straight in the eyes.

"You should be sleeping by now. Why are you here?" Garp asked.

" Cuz I wanna tell you good night before I sleep! Shishishishi! " Luffy laughed. Garp laughed loudly.

" Bwahahahahaha!!!! You brat, you should've told me that before I went on the ship!" Garp scolded Luffy who looked down at the wooden deck.

Garp sighed and put him down." I'll bring you back to Partys Bar—

"No!" Luffy immediately denied Garp's offer which made Garp raise a curious eyebrow at him.

"I-I mean, you're pretty tired right? So you should get some sleep and I'll go back to Partys Bar myself!" Luffy puffed his chest out confidently. Garp laughed again and patted his grandson's back.

" Alright alright. If you insist. Now go! It's almost midnight!" Garp ordered him. Luffy waved at him.

"Goodnight grandpa!" Luffy shouted before going down the chains of the anchor and landing on the wooden boat.

"Goodnight, brat!!" Garp grinned at his grandson who started paddling his way back to the dock.

After Luffy went back to Partys Bar, Garp laughed loudly as he was heading back to his bedroom on the ship.

"This kid thinks I'm stupid! His lousy lies won't fool anyone! Now let's see what he stole from my office. " Garp grumbled and entered his office. After searching for a while, Garp knew what he stole.

"So he stole my diaries and some books from the shelf. He also stole that cutlass too. Ah, whatever. I don't need those anyways. Now just what is that brat going to do with those?" Garp wondered before shrugging.

" I'll figure it out tomorrow. Sleep is more important! "

The next day, Luffy woke up, brushed his teeth, took a shower and put on his everyday clothes. He looked at the cutlass and grabbed it.

"It really is heavy." Luffy muttered before unsheathing it. He looked in awe as the blade shined brightly under the sun's shine.

He did some mock swings before laughing out loud. "It's really fun!" Luffy shouted and looked at the cutlass again.

Suddenly, a golden aura appeared covering the cutlass. Luffy was shocked and dropped the blade. The cutlass made a loud clanging noise as it hit the ground.

"Luffy! Are you alright?! Did you fall down?!" He heard Makino shout outside of his room. Luffy gulped as he looked at the door.

"I'm alright, Makino! I just dropped something!" Luffy answered truthfully.

" Okay then! Breakfast is ready so you better eat it while it's hot! "

Hearing the mention of breakfast, Luffy quickly sheathed the cutlass back to its sheath before running out of the room.

" Food!! Here I come!!!"

.

.

After finishing breakfast, Luffy ran back to his room and grabbed the box full of books. He ran out of the bar while carrying it.

Makino looked at what he was carrying curiously before smiling and went back to work.

Luffy arrived at a clearing before sitting down and opening it. He rummaged through it before grabbing the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia.

He opened the first page and started reading the contents of it. "Sube Sube no Mi. The Slip-Slip Fruit, is a Para.... Parame.....How do I read this Parame thing? " Luffy squinted his eyes as he looked at the complicated words in front of him.

"Hey brat!"

"Ahh!!! Grandpa!!" Luffy shouted in horror as he threw the book he was reading back into the box of books.

"Bwahahaha!!!" Garp laughed at his grandson's reaction before sitting down beside him.

"So, Makino told me that you still don't know how to read and count. I'm here to change that! Before I leave I want you to be able to read out basic sentences and count numbers from one to one hundred. " Garp explained while placing some small books in front of Luffy.

"Sounds hard." Luffy muttered, not so sure if he can do it or not.

" It won't, I promise. It's easy actually. You just need to know what the letters are and how to put them together to make a word." Garp assured him. Luffy suddenly widened his eyes.

" Oh crap! I have training to do with the old man—

"I already told him that I'm going to be borrowing you while I'm taking a vacation here. He also gave me this so that I can give it to you. Something about an exercise routine you need to do while I'm borrowing you from him. " Garp grumbled before handing a Luffy a piece of paper.

Luffy read the contents of the paper. It was his usual exercise routine, but now Gyatsu added a 1km run to it and the previous exercises have gotten more intense.

"He's really serious about this." Garp commented. Luffy looked at him and grinned.

"And so am I!" He replied. Garp laughed.

"Whatever you say, brat! Now let's teach you how to read, we're wasting sunlight over here!"

.

.

A few hours later, Luffy was completely worn out. He didn't know reading could be this difficult. Garp who also had a drill sergeant-like personality when it came to teaching, was at least 15x worse than Gyatsu who took the slow but efficient approach to things.

Any small mistake Luffy made, Garp would scold him and tell him to try again until he got it down perfectly.

Garp was fast and efficient, Luffy believed it so while looking at the floating screen in front of him.

[Reading Lvl 10

[Counting Lvl 10

Garp was staring at Luffy who was lying on the grassy ground exhausted. In a span of a few hours, Luffy had shattered his expectations.

He then grinned. 'I didn't settle for anything less! You make this old man proud, brat!' Garp thought and threw a water canteen to the ground beside Luffy.

Luffy grabbed the canteen and started gulping down the water in it. He felt rejuvenated by the drink and got up.

He looked at Garp. "So what do I do now, grandpa? Should I continue to read or count?" Luffy asked. Garp chuckled and shook his head.

"We will not be doing anything of the sort. We will now be doing combat training!! Bwahahaha!!!" Garp laughed loudly and leaped towards Luffy who shouted in horror.

Garp threw a punch at him to which Luffy jumped away to dodge it.

*BAAM!!!!*

His effortless punch made a small crater on the ground. Luffy gulped as Garp dusted off his fist and looked at him.

And thus started Garp's hellish combat training. Garp kept catching up with him and throwing punches at his grandson while Luffy kept jumping away to dodge his ground breaking attacks.

"Brat, you say you want to become the Pirate King! But now you're just running away from me like a coward! Tell me, are you a coward?!" Garp asked loudly.

That did something in Luffy's heart. He realized that all this time he had been running away all this time while not fighting back.

"No!! I'll never be a coward! I'm gonna be a brave Pirate King!!! " Luffy shouted back. Garp grinned.

" Then attack me like one, brat!!!" Garp shouted before throwing a punch at him. Luffy gritted his teeth and jumped away from his attack. But he didn't jump that far. He jumped onto Garp's large arms which was stuck to the ground and leaped towards him.

"Haa!!!" Luffy shouted as he threw a kick towards his face.

*Pak!!*

Garp was hit by it. Luffy blinked as it did nothing. Garp grinned at Luffy who gulped. The Vice Admiral suddenly pushed Luffy away from him.

"Ahh!!" Luffy shouted as he tumbled onto the ground. Garp laughed at his grandson's demise.

"Hey! I'm not done yet!" Luffy got up while grinning at his grandpa. Garp smirked and cracked his knuckles.

"Then don't cry when I actually hurt you, brat!!!"
