Chapter 56

Title: Reunion of Friends...

Negan smirked back at me, his eyes were filled with the excitement of adventure.

Honestly, though it's surprising, meeting him out of nowhere, still it was a good thing. Because even after all this time, I never found someone as trustworthy as Negan. 

Well, there was Raynare and I trusted her, but there were also times when I wondered what she might do due to jealousy. My worries might have been unfounded as nothing happened, but even now I was expecting her to act irrationally sometimes. Though she doesn't, so I might have to stop this stereotype in my mind. Why did I even assume that she might become a Yandere?

"Damn boss-man, you can't lend some money to your long-lost pal?" Negan put his arm around my neck and tried to convince me.

But I knew him, he probably had a bunch of treasure somewhere. I doubt he was able to hold himself back from robbing the shìt out of any pirate or even criminal in general. What's surprising though is why he hasn't already robbed everyone's money on Jaya Island? Maybe he had just arrived here?

"The day I lend you money will be the day I will shoot myself in the head. So no Negan, there will be no money lending on my side." I put my foot down on this and also put my hand around Negan's neck, putting him in a chokehold. 

"Ow! Ow! Ow! Boss-Man! You will break my neck like that!" He yelped in pain.

But I didn't budge and asked him. "So, why the hell didn't you just call in a Transponder Snail and tell me that you were alive?"

Zoro, Luffy, and Nami looked at our antics with amused expressions. Especially the captain of their rag-tag crew, as he had a huge smile on his face and ate some food from a plate while standing up. Where did he even get the food? I didn't see him with a plate initially.

"C'mon now Max, this was the whole surprise that would have made the situation way more entertaining~" Negan complained like a kid. "Also even if I told you, it wouldn't make my journey faster to reach you."

"Ohhh~" I looked at him with a murderous gaze and let him go. "So you wanted to have fun at my expense? Did you hit your head when you fell off the ship? Because you should have known that would be a vert BAD idea."

"Yeah, I did hit my head." He confessed.

That made me stop, and look at him curiously. "Really?"

"Yep, I even lost my memory for some time. Even went to the new world looking for the boss-man even though at the time I had no idea who or where you were." He explained the situation. "Since I was found in the New World, I thought you might be there too."

Well, that was bound to be an adventure, and he doesn't seem to be lying either. Damn, I am kinda touched by his loyalty. 

"Okay, that's cool and all," I said with a bored look on my face. "But you still missed over half a year of work…"

"Shìt, this sucks." Negan complained, but I threw his spiked bat at him. The one I always used in fights and kept on my back together with my ax.

"But you never did any real work, so it doesn't matter, I guess you have missed half a year of cracking pirate skulls?" I pointed at his weapon. "Also be careful with that, I had it coated with Seastone."

He immediately lost interest in whatever we were talking about and looked at his spiked bat with a blood-thirsty grin. "Oh~ then me and this baby are about to have some rough lovin after we some time alone."

"You didn't need to tell me that." I muttered, looking at the Strawhats. "It would be good if you left soon, this whole island will experience radical changes."

"What would those changes entail?" Asked Nami with a foxy look on her face. I noticed that she still had the ring I had given her on our date. 

Instead of answering her directly, I just smiled. "Well, that's for me to know and you to find out."

She pouted and crossed her arms. Yeah, lady, your little mind games don't work on me. Also, I kinda have a vivere card that always points at her. So there was no longer a need to try and flirt with Nami. 

"You guys wanna go to Sky Island right?" I inquired.

"How do you know that?" Asked Zoro, they hadn't revealed this to anyone except their crew. And just today they had told a couple other people to ask for directions there and they were just laughed at.

"That's the boss-man's thing, he knows things." Said Negan with a proud smile, as if this somehow made perfect sense.

"Yep, Negan gets it." Hell, even I didn't know what he meant by that. But he was my subordinate and friend, so I have to go along with his bullshìt. 

"That doesn't make sense." Nami voiced her opinion on the matter with a confused look on her face.

"Oh! I get it!" Luffy somehow seemed to understand something. "Max has a magical power that lets him know everything!"

No, he didn't know shìt. Luffy was just stupid, and proudly said stupid things like that with full confidence.

Damn, I felt like I was losing brain cells just by talking with these idiots. So I waved them off. "Anyway, you guys go and do your Pirate thing. I and Negan will do our Marine thing."

With that, we started walking off. Negan on the other hand looked back at the Strawhats like a puppy who lost his favorite toy. "We aren't gonna rob them?"

"I have standards."

"What?" He looked at me like I was an alien under human skin. "Who are you? And what have you done with boss-man?"

"Do they look like pirates who are loaded?" I asked him, making Negan look back once again at the Strawhats.

"Yeah, you're right. They seem kinda poor." He agreed.

"Oh wow~ shocker~ the leader gets it right," I replied sarcastically. 

"Yep, yep, so no need to be sarcastic." He snorted.

Heh, I never knew I would miss these moments of banter. In this world, there was only one person I would call a genuine friend and that was Negan. He might be illogical, sadistic, and downright psychotic, but he was the guy I strangely trusted the most.

In the end, a reunion between best friends would never be one of tears or loud proclamations of love. "Glad to have you back." 

He smirked. "Glad to be back."

Those were the only words we spoke that showed we were glad to meet each other again. Finally, I had a 3rd person who I could trust again.

This time, I will make sure that all of us survive this world and stand on top of it.

When we met up with Raynare she had an emotionless face as she looked at Negan. "Welcome back, scum."

That was all she said as she turned around and ordered her subordinates.

Negan blinked and looked at me. "You know… he doesn't seem happy to see me. A friend who was heroically assumed dead."

"It's not that she hates you," I clarified. "But she just doesn't care about you."

"Damn, I feel like that might- wait what? She?" Negan finally caught on to what I was saying.

"Oh right, you never knew. So yeah… Ray has always been a girl disguised as a guy."

"Wow…" he was speechless. "And here I thought he was just gay."

Raynare seemed to be irritated by Negan already and 'accidentally' kicked a rock about the size of my fist and hit him on the head.

Baam!

He fell to the ground, but immediately got up and yelled. "Ray! You bitch! This is how you treat a comrade who heroically almost died."

"Heroic? You?" She looked at him mockingly. "My memory might be a little foggy, but if I remember correctly. You just slipped off the ship like an idiot."

Wow, these guys are back to their arguments already.

With that in mind, I just decided to zone them out and keep a polite smile on my face.
