The Snake's Plan for Revenge

When Glim got to the gallery site, he was planted by Belpel. Only after getting there Inorra and Kipset turned to look at who the newcomer was.

To their surprise, it was their former roommate and "friend" Glim, who, from what they knew, never landed in such difficult jobs as working at the starting part of a new route or even go into the depths as Vlad was doing for straight 2 years.

Glim has been in this mine for five years, and never has he got a bad job, as if he was sucking and letting the staff managers fuck him.

By now, the boys who stopped their working turned to look at the newcomer, and Inorra, who was more swift with his words, commented.

"Glim, how did you manage to get down here. Have the managers got sick of you sucking on them and throw you to actually work?"

Ended the young boy with a hint of suspicion in him, knowing that Glim was like a snake, not offending someone he knew he shouldn't get offended or beat.

Glim looked at two boys, and his once evil smile turned into a pathetic expression that looked devastated and even fear struck before saying to them.

"How can you say such a thing to your former roommate and friend. I don't know what I did wrong, but the assignment staff member sent me here without much reason, saying that this new path needs more people to be set up."

After he said that, he followed up by looking around himself, a bit confused, and asking them.

"Are you only the two of you here? What about the rest?"

"You are the rest. Hmph, those arrogant staff members must be joking about sending you here? Do you even know to use your pickaxe?" asked Inorra, still having suspicion run inside of him.

'I can use it to smash your brain, little shit.' thought Glim to himself when looking at Inorra's face, yet he responded in a normal way.

"Come on, Inorra, you don't have to joke about that stuff. Obviously, I know to use my pickaxe and shatter the stone. I've been here before, even both of you. I just have a bad day that I was selected to be here."

"Yea, sure. Then let's see you, work. Show us how you break the stones."

Inorra sneered at Glim while saying that, clearly wanting to rub more salt on him as he was thinking in his mind.

'Something is going on that I simply can't explain. There's no way in hell this snake would actually drop here down. He has the favors of the guards and was even seen walking with the head guard.'

'Does he want something from us, or are they targeting Zagreus?'

'If this petty snake wants something from us, I better tell this to Kipset so we are preparing for the worse that could happen. But what would he do by himself? Soon there would be more people here working.'

'Argh, it's hard to think of what could happen. What matters is that I have to be careful around this lying snake.'

Inorra's thought process was a strenuous one for a 13-year-old, but he visibly felt that something was wrong with the arrival of Glim.

Meanwhile, Glim just smiled at Inorra and Kipset, and while holding his pickaxe, he walked to the wall they had to dig, and with a wide swing, he began taking stones as if he was genuinely trying to work without pulling anything weird.

'Ahh fuck me, this really is hard. I never knew that doing this type of moment could be so strenuous to the arms. I have to bear this, bare. Soon I will be a free man and finally enjoy my life away from all these crazy bastards.'

As Glim started working on the wall, he thought more to himself while trying to pick his ear on what the two coworkers were talking to, but he couldn't from the sound of the shattering stone.

On another part of the wall they had to dig, Inorra had Kipset attention as they were swinging their pickaxes.

"Brother Kipset, we have to be careful around this lying snake. I have a feeling that he wants something from us, but I can't guess it. He either is in hands with the guards that are targeting Zagreus, or he is here for us."

"So you also get this feeling? I also think the same as you, Inorra, so we better check on this rat more often. Do you want to do that switching strategy to watch him?"

"Yes, let's do that. That snake wouldn't be able to do anything in that way."

Agreed on Inorra and Kipset to a plan while they were covered by the sound of the pickaxe and stones, and after some minutes of shattering stones, Inorra suddenly stopped and put down his pickaxe, as if taking a break.

Glim, who was numbering the minutes passing in his head, looked for a brief moment at Inorra, who seemed to relax and also casually look at him, suddenly thought to himself.

'That kid, could it be? Did he figure something out when seeing me together with the head guard? '

'No, no, no, it's not possible. That kid was always timid and always complied with my orders since he first arrived at the camp. He's a dumb kid and probably remained the same as back when I left. '

'I should keep acting normal for a bit more. But with more time I stay here, those kids would get even more suspicious because of only the three of us working here.'

'Damn it, this is a flaw of the plan. People with brains can pick the flaw fast and react. All I can hope is those two kids remained the same as I left them, weak and dumb kids.'

While Glim was thinking of the moment he would be a free man, Inorra maintained his attention on Glim, who, for a brief moment, turned his attention on him.

'Hmm, he doesn't seem to be panicking or breaking out of character. Still, it doesn't matter. I will watch him until it's Kip's turn.'

Seeing the two kids work was a good sign for Glim and his plan. The only problem he had was how to execute it flawlessly.

Time went without much disturbance, and to Glim's plan, some stone-carrying boys arrived to give the impression that they were tasked to assist the three.

Yet even after seeing those carrying boys, Inorra, who was by now swinging his pickaxe and had Kipset look after Glim, said as if to himself.

"Brother, even though we saw those kids come here to get the stones out, I still have this feeling on me. That snake is planning something. Don't act suspicious, remain as if you would take a break from work.

Kipset nodded his head and looked around himself, targeting in this way Glim too, while Inorra continued on breaking stones using the old-fashioned pickaxe.

The boys did their job in silence not long after. Only the sound of the pickaxe hitting the stone or the stone smashing on the ground got heard between them.

Meanwhile, in Vlad's section, with the time passing, he was about done finishing his job, which was to carry stones from the middle point of the gallery to the processing station. A straightforward process, but as Vlad was doing the picking of stones and filling his buckets, he thought to himself.

'Sigh, this job just got more annoying and boring with the amount I have to carry. That accountant even assigned me large buckets. It's like they expect me to clean this entire gallery sector.'

'So far, everything worked too well, no annoying guard to piss me off, no retards jumping in. Something must be wrong, but I don't know what.

Along the way, when taking out the stones, I noticed that only those guards from Belpel were stationed at the upper levels.'

'Ohh, they must be planning something on me. I wonder if that fat retard came himself to see me, that would be fun to see. But before even taking in mind that fat retard, what should I do after I am done?'

Stone by stone, he filled the buckets, and his mind was blank as if processing what he should do.

'I think I've noticed old Nius, who also seemed to be stationed weirdly on the upper floors. That's what I will do, go spend some time with old Nius, maybe help him a bit.'

-

Somewhere up, an old man hitting stones with a chisel suddenly sneezed and looking around himself were only young guys were stationed and backed by a guard, said to himself.

"Hmm, some piece of shit wants something from me ... Who could it be? The nobles? It's that old fuck, Patrick Cochrane, by chance? Nah, this one is close by. Heh, that's cute. Let's see you try your best, brat."

"Old man, back to work. Don't think that these are the depths, and you can do whatever you want, whenever you want." said the guard who noticed Nius take a break after sneezing.

"Hey kid, don't hurry me. Do you want to kill me by chance by overworking me? No need to hurry me. But if you want me to hurry, just sent me back to the depths, and I'll get the fuck out of here. Fuck this place, it smells too nice, and the atmosphere looks so ridiculous."

"Old man, you know that I have no control over the assignment decisions. I'm here just to make sure the workers are doing their job."

"Fine little shit, I will go back to work."

The chisel sounds started to resound again, drowning the rest of the sounds coming from the other workers. Like this, Nius managed to be alone with himself by hitting harder than others and creating his hitting melody.

While he was starting doing that, Vlad, who was left working alone in that section of the mine, already finished filling his buckets and preparing to go deliver both of those batches of stone. He took both on his shoulder without much strain on his body.

The journey to the dumping site was regular. Apart from the people staring at him weirdly, he didn't encounter any obstacles for the rest of his route, as if it was predestinated.

Still, when he passed past the working old man, he would suddenly burst in a crazy laugh, disturbing the poor old man from concentrating. However, it wasn't really that much of a disturbance for the old man. He only looked to be questioning himself on a particular thing.

'Hmmm, what is this? I can't sense him all of a sudden. How can this kid block my Observation? It never happened to me since I've seen this boy. That's really weird. Could it be that thing on his chest blocks my perception of the boy?'

-

Vlad dumped his load and prepared to finish his last batch of stones and later to went to check on Nius again.

After some more minutes, passing the old man this time, he went to the dumping site again but choosing to not disturb Nius. Taking note that old Nius was quite close to the mine opening, Vlad only took a little to get to him.

Strolling with the bucket on his shoulder, he looked around the rest of the people working to break the stones and later at the old man who seemed in his world, focused only on chiseling.

When he got closer to the working men, the guard on the job wanted to stop him, but Vlad only stared at him with his dark-green eyes that seemed to also contain some black thing around his irises circling.

When the guard saw Vlad approach, he could only let him move toward the working men while sweating for an unknown reason.

Vlad got close to the old man's back and started laughing heartily at his back.

"Old man, how come you're so focused on your job all of a sudden? You aren't like this even at the depths. Do you, by chance, want to impress some young boy here and take him to your home?"

"Piss off Zagreus, you know I'm only interested in young ladies."

"Ohh, I think I remember you saying something about that. So how it feels being at the upper levels, breathing some air?"

The old man turned around and looked at the smug face of the young man. With the forced face of someone in pain, he said with his most pathetic voice.

"What can an old man like me do, lad? Can't you see that those guys started seeing me like a poor old man that requires special treatment? Hick, they even forced me into doing this stupid job on the upper floor. It's like they want me to teach those little shits the craft of digging and mining."

Ended the old man by slapping Vlad's shoulder and ruffling his hair.

"Well, they have a lot to learn from you, old Nius. So you better teach them properly."

Vlad continued while watching Nius and then turning his attention a bit on the working guys.

"So old man, how have you been so far, except the fact that you're breathing some open-air here, are there any problems with the upper echelons? Because I feel something weird with the guards today when walking from the middle point to the dumping site."

Stroking his white beard and contemplating what Vlad said, he told him with a frowning face.

"Kid, to be honest with you, there are only 2 possibilities. Mayer is coming, and the guards are preparing something, or someone has nothing better to do but to shift around people, or another one Pholbor might have resigned from his post and left the mine without administrators."

When Vlad heard that from Nius, he thought about himself and shook his head, but before he could add something to the old man, he heard the footsteps of another person, a guard, who came to say to him and Nius.

"Worker, proceed to get back on schedule. It's not fair to have the rest of the men working while you guys enjoy yourself chatting. Don't force me to get rough with you guys."

When Vlad heard the guard's humble way of speaking, he nodded his head and said responded in kind, still a bit surprised by the guard's approach.

"Sir, we'll end quickly. Just let us talk a bit, and I'll go down to continue my job."

Where the guard nodded his head, accepting Vlad's request.

"Okay young man, keep talking but be fast. I got sick of having my superiors scold me for being too nice with you guys."

Nodding his head at the guard, he turned to face old Nius again, with a severe face and voice. "Probably that fat pig Mayer came to the mine and is looking for something … or someone, maybe that would be me, but who knows? I can't be the only one to offend that pig so serious, right old man?"

Taking a deep breath and exhaling, the old man commented. "Kid, from what you have told me that you did to Mayer, I doubt that he forgot you so easily. Let me ask you, have you seen him since that incident?"

Not thinking a lot, he answered Nius's question.

"No, so far, that pig didn't want to come here to see me again or what as the guards torture me. Only his men dealt with me from the moment I arrived here."

As he ended saying that, suddenly, the earth and the mine started to shake for no reason. It was a situation similar to an earthquake.

Panic ensued, and most workers dropped their pickaxes and started flooding toward the outside. The thought that one would be eaten alive by the earth and forever forgotten struck hard at the hards of the slaves and miners as they forced their way outside.

While at that moment, Vlad and old Nius were looking at each other. Nius was first to ask with a perplexed face.

"Who are the poor idiots who got themselves fucked deep down?"

Meanwhile, with what Nius said, without even noticing the black mark on his chest he thought was a birthmark began shifting a bit as if it contained intelligence.

Vlad's calm face started crumbling as he thought of something that could have possibly happen deep down. Specifically to Inorra and Kipset. As he did that, his face turned colder and colder that was visible for Nius to see, a new expression on Vlad's face.

'Wait, deep down in the mine? Don't tell. Instead of targeting me, they went for the boys? Damned bastards, that's how you like to play this game? Just you wait, and I'll deal with you all. Before that, I have to check on the kids to see if they are still alive.'

..........

A/N: How did that snake manage to succeed even after all their careful steps, he still managed to pull it off.

-

Yet as he did that, he also sealed his fate by brushing off Vlad's reminders.
