“I worked at a law firm in Jersey, even without the degree. I started out as go-fer…a well-paid one…and worked my way up as far as I could pretty quickly. It’s not really my thing.”

“What is your thing?”

“Horses. My father would make, like, two three hundred dollar an hour phone calls a day for clients and then go shovel stalls. Mom, she gave riding lessons, enjoyed a ride herself and going to shows and parades, but was more into business suits and legal briefs at the end of the day. I’m more like Dad. Despite that and the sentimental value of this place, investing in it was pretty dumb. My parents even said so. They’re only going to help so much before they cut me off. “Kind of not. Recycling…We do that, too. I’m sorry about all of it.”
