“You’re awesome, Mr. Janson.”

I laughed. “I am. You okay?”

He nodded. “Just tired. Really tired. And my mom called just now.”

“Oh, yeah?” I tried for light, but a little bit of worry snaked into my gut. She’d been calling a lot lately, and every conversation left Tru drained.

“She wants to meet you.” I arched an eyebrow, and he laughed. “Properly this time. Will you come with me to Burlington this weekend?”

“Of course, I will.”

He breathed a sigh. “Thank you.”

The drive was only two hours or so, and Tru found a satellite radio station that played only one-hit-wonders. He turned up the volume, and we both sang badly at the top of our lungs. It was fun, and took our minds off what was coming. Tru was worried about it. He’d told me about most of his conversations with his mother over the past several weeks, and it definitely sounded like she was doing better. But I knew he was anxious about what would happen when we were all in the same room.
