Chapter 26

Tru had an afternoon training class, which would keep him busy, so I cut out of work early and started preparations. By the time he dragged himself to my place as planned, he looked tired and worn out. But I had the bath ready, stripped him out of his clothes, and settled him into the tub. He gave me a small smile.

“This is nice.” He sank lower into the water. “Think there’s room for you, too?”

“Definitely.” I wasn’t going to suggest it. It was all about him and getting him to relax. I had some steaks ready to go on the grill whenever we got hungry, and macaroni salad in the fridge. But since he was inviting me to join him, I wasn’t about to turn him down. I stripped quickly, then slid in behind him and held him close.

“I’m sorry I’ve been so weird.”

I kissed his cheek. “There’s no reason to apologize. One of the best things about you is your huge heart. I’d be sad if you didn’t feel this much.”
