Collin had gotten down on one knee at this point and was holding open a ring box with the most beautiful ring Elle had ever seen in her life in it. All she could do was stare in horror. 

He was PROPOSING to her?! To his knowledge, they had only known each other for two weeks!

Things really worked different for rich people. He liked her better than all of the other socialites so he was proposing a mutually beneficial arrangement that wasn't romantic in the slightest. She was both heartbroken for his situation and insulted. 

Oh, what did her feelings matter? She couldn't get engaged to him! She wasn't Charlotte Rose! The real Charlotte had someone she loved.
