Chapter Two

Ezra's POV:

"What does this have to do with me? I'm going to get killed eventually." I wrote out. I didn't lie. Telling me stories won't change me or my "family's" past and those werewolves are probably still looking for me anyway. They find me, I'm dead instantly.

"How 'bout you come live with me, Ezra?" Quin suggested. Am I hearing this correctly? Did they say what I think they did or am I dreaming? Does this random stranger want to take me to their house and take care of me? Even with the risk of getting killed themself?

"Do you mean that? Did you even think through the risks and possibilities?" I wrote.

"Nope." They replied bluntly. I was about to write something else but Quin picked me up and put me on my feet, in front of them. I picked up the notepad and pencil I dropped on the floor and started writing again.

"But what if I get you into trouble? Or you can't go to that human village anymore? Or if-'' I couldn't finish writing before Quin took the notepad and read over what I had written so far. They let out a bunch of giggles after looking it over at least six times.

"Trust me when I say this kid, I get into loads of trouble myself." They said with a low giggle at the end. "That's another reason why I want you to come live with me. So we can learn to get out of trouble, or get into less trouble as possible." They declared, mumbling the last part.

Is this happening to me? Am I getting a second chance in life? Yes, this person is not human and way older than me, but for some reason I trust them. Not to mention, they also didn't avoid me when they realized I was mute. I looked up at them and they had warm and calming smiles on their face.

I nodded. I wasn't sure if that was the correct response but Quin accepted it. They gave me more head pats, that I adored, and stood up. They were tall for a werewolf but short for a vampire. They also know magic so could they be a witch? But witches are shorter. All I knew is that they were around 5'11.

"If you're curious what I am, I'm a multibrid," Quin responded to my thoughts. "I'm a witch, werewolf, vampire, human, and more. I'm not sure what the 'and more is, but I'm able to do things that not even a tribrid could accomplish."

I watched as Quin explained what they were and some of the rules they and their "Mind Goblins" made all while collecting herbs. I also learned that their mother was a witch and a human while their Father was a werewolf and a vampire.

We sat in comfortable silence for a while until I saw Quin's expression change from calm and comforting to worry and angry. I didn't smell or hear anyone nearby but Quin did. They rushed over to the baskets and picked them all up. Luckily they were already full so it wasn't a waste.

"Float" Quin whispered. It was a spell. Right after they cast the spell I started floating up in the air and landed on Quin's shoulders. I grabbed onto Quin's head and they started running. It wasn't a normal speed though. This speed made me feel like if I loosened my grip, I would fly off of their shoulders. I squeezed my eyes shut and chose to wait out the terrifying quick trip.

Before I knew it, I was put on the ground but I still kept my eyes shut. The air smelt fresh and I heard the leaves in the trees blowing with the warm wind. Quin was still next to me but didn't say or do anything.

"You can uncover your eyes now, Ezra. I apologize for going at an abnormal speed when running. It takes more than 10 minutes to get from here to there by foot." Quin reassured. I nodded and removed my hands from my face.

It was a beautiful sight. The best view I've seen in my life. There was a cozy-looking two-story house in the center of the huge clearing. It had brick walls and an adorable wooden porch in the front. There were vines on the walls and a nicely built brick chimney. On the right side of the stairs to the porch were lots of healthy and well-taken care of flowers or berry bushes. On the left was a small but useful herb garden with the same herbs the other clearing had.

"I know it isn't much or what you didn't expect but it has everything that I need," Quin spoke a little faster than normal, clearly nervous. How could this be not much!? This was more than I expected; and more than I've had. I took out my notebook and started writing in it. I shoved it towards her and she grabbed it out of my hand to read it.

"This place is beautiful! It's more than I could imagine. Before, all I lived in was a shack." Quin read aloud. They looked over it multiple times before handing the notebook back to me.

"So, you do like it? Most people's first impressions are "Why isn't it bigger?" or "Why is there only one house and not multiple?" They shared a fake laugh but stared at the ground. Tension and awkwardness filled the air. I walked over to the house and went up the wooden porch. No matter where I stepped, I didn't hear or feel a single creak. I traced my hand across the railing and I didn't get a single splinter.

I looked at Quin, who was coming towards me and waved with a smile. I sat on a porch swing that was attached to the porch top with chains. It had comfortable gray cushions and swung back and forth like a brand new playground swing.

Quin was now on the porch with me and was standing near the door. "Would you like to see the inside?" They asked. I nodded excitedly and jumped out of the porch swing. I motioned towards the door and admired the design on it. It was a beautiful oak door with all sorts of carved swirls and lines in it. In the top left corner was a list of names carved into it. It read:

Quin Melves

Remi Corlaw

Titus Vell

"What's with the names??" I wrote in the notepad. I pointed at the names in the corner and Quin turned their head to look at them.

"Oh, those. Whenever someone meaningful comes into my life to help me, I have them carve their names on my door so I remember them. In return, I make a blood oath to them until I repay them." Quin explains. I nod to show that I understand but I don't understand part of it.

"What's a blood oath?" I wrote. Quin looked at me slightly shocked but changed their expression quickly.

"That's a story for another time." They sighed. They opened the door and it was just as beautiful as the outside.
