I'm not a headhunter

Days passed and Avel had finally regained some form of consciousness. Hoping he wouldn't go through another ordeal as he once did when he had just been reincarnated into the world of Fulirwe, he tried to get a good sense of his motor functions and his current surroundings.

'Hm. I'm in pain but, it wasn't as bad as last time, while I was in my mother's womb. The feeling of pain that I'm having right now is akin to having a strenuous full body workout and you're too physically tired to move the day after. However, I can't move at all.'

[I tried to open my eyes, I imagine you wouldn't be able to inside a womb, but I attempted to anyway.]

'This.. isn't this the ceiling of the living room?'

As Avel had grown out of his baby crib, he had gotten used to waking up with the familiar sights of the living room. Yet, there he was, awoken in the same living room he had been sleeping in for the past 2 years.

'I survived..? but how?'

[I looked towards the left of my bed and I see my sister. She is currently sleeping, holding onto my left hand as she lays her head on it.]

'Guess she must've been worried. Shit- what about my mana veins?'

Without using his Mana Vision, Avel instead, used Mana Sense, hoping the effort that he had placed into familiarising his body into having a red-skinned mana train would pay off and, it did.

'Phew. Mana capacity at 80%, covered by a red-skinned mana train. Perhaps this is similar to muscle memory, as my body had made the covert train subconsciously.'

'I've thought about this for awhile but, my talent for mana is pretty high. Ever since I've been reincarnated I'd been able to control it however I wanted it to and, I've yet to hit a slump in the process of upgrading my mana capacity.'

After a quick check on his mana veins with Mana Vision to see that it was left untouched, Avel proceeded to move the fingers on his left hand as best as he possibly could, waking Pleres up in the middle of her sleep.

"Mhm, five more minutes..."

"Sis'... I'm.. thirsty."

"Go get some water then.. huh?

L-lil' brudda!! You're awake?!"

"Shhh.. not so loud.. Yeah, as you can see...

Can I get some water, please?"

"O-okay."

Pleres had left to fetch a cup of water and returned, lifting the cup to her brother's mouth and allowing him to drink. In the meantime, both parents had heard the commotion made from the older sibling, and headed downstairs to find their son awake.

"Thanks a lot, sis'."

Pleres nodded, before setting the empty cup of water that had been filled to the brim.

"Avel. Why were you there when the attack happened?", Liz questioned him. He was stunned as to how his mother wasn't showing any signs of uneasiness and had began to interrogate him instead.

"Hm? I had accompanied Tess since she had said that it'd be in my best interest to learn about the awakening process and that once I turn 6 years of age, I'd have the same thing done to me."

"I see.", the answer had somehow made Liz ponder over her shoulders as she began to think of the possible scenarios and underlying outcomes.

"Is something wrong?"

"Well.. that's the thing, when we had arrived, all we saw was Lily grabbing onto you and, on the floor was the headless corpses of two raiders. No one else was seen in the close vicinity, not even Tess."

'Two headless corpses? Sure, I had cut off and separated their heads from the bodies but it's not like I had eaten them..

Unless I ate them subconsciously..?'

"Wait! Lily! Is she okay?"

"She's fine, sweetie. She even helped out in the reconstruction of the village."

"What about Tess?"

"We're still trying to find her."

"What?! She's missing? But.."

'Was there another raider that I might've missed?

No, that's not possible. The solid yellow user must've been the leader of the group since he hadn't fire any spells towards the village and, had instead focused on any forms of ambush that would've approached them.'

'Unless... he was some sort of recon for information and, that he wasn't the actual leader. Then that'd make sense since he was consistently using Mana Vision.. as if he was searching for something.'

"But what?"

"Nothing.. it's just that Tess wasn't the person I imagined her to be."

"What do you mean?", this time Gareth spoke out, hoping that the next words out of his son's mouth wouldn't disappoint him due to the character of the person of interest.

"She.. said that I had peasant blood and that it runs deep within me. She acted differently when she was with me than when she was together with us."

"Huh?!"

"What?! How could she, to a child?!" Gareth roared in frustration. It was clear that he was angered and, was the reason as to why she had called his son in such a manner. Yet, he couldn't believe that she would voice out her opinions begrudgingly towards his own son.

"Dear, let's not worry about Tess for now. I'm just glad you're okay, sweetie.", Liz calmed her husband and finally showed her true emotions that were filled with worry, in regards to her son.

"I'm sorry for questioning you earlier, sweetie. But, some people needed the answers before anything else."

"Some people?"

"You don't need to worry about them, just rest for now, okay sweetheart?", Liz embraced him as softly as she could, and gave him a light peck on the forehead.

"Okay..", Avel slowly laid back down with Pleres still holding onto him. He patted her head with the remaining strength that he had left in him. She was confused at first but had willingly accepted it as a sign of comfort from her brother.

This also gave Avel some time to think about what had happened in the event that had occured during the battle and, before he had lost consciousness.
