Just Friends
He let her know how a woman should be treated and to never lower her standards. They never had an official relationship. They only messed around occasionally. She fell in love that summer. She never told anyone of these feelings because she didn't think he felt the same way. In many ways, she had always known how much he cared for her, but she has never had any confirmations on his behalf. Yes, he did come to her rescue, but she'd always been there for him, too. She thought that's what friends were for.
Reaching her room, she turned the light back off, The night lights came on and gave her room a luminescent feel, and candles on warmers were the scent of heaven. She finally got into her warm,soft bed and snuggled into it. She heard the sound of the upstairs shower come on an envisioned Darius's body soaked and wet under the hot steamy water. She turned on the surround sound system that led music all around the house, a soft neo soul feel of Musiq began to drown out the sounds of his muscular toned body being cleansed under the streaming hot water... She began to doze off. An image appeared in her doorway.
"Sydney, are you sleep?" his voice whispered.
"Yeah," she said in the groggiest voice she could muster.
"Good, you're awake. Can we talk?" he asked.
"Can't this wait till the sun rises?" she said, a bit annoyed.
"No, I need to get this off my chest," he said dismally.
Okay," she said and sat up, concerned. "What's going on I'm all ears?"
"Syd, you know you were my first love and my first... ya know. I still have so many feelings for you, it's ridiculous. Some days I feel like I can't make it without you in my life. The whole 'restaurant thing' made those feelings from high school come back."
"Look D, you don't have to explain this to me. I was in love with you for a long time myself. I had to realize you and I were and are just friends, and I'd never want to destroy what we have," she said trusting their friendship was everything it needed to be at that moment.
"Would ya listen to me, woman?" he said, wanting her to feel what his heart felt that his words couldn't explain. "I need you in my life, Syd, and I cannot go without you. I need you to promise, no matter what happens, we are always going to have each other."
"I promise. Is everything okay Darius? You know I'm here for you. What's wrong? What happened?" He grabbed her face and kissed her softly, and then he kissed her forehead. She didn't know what to think. It had been a while since she'd felt this way. She noticed there was only a towel wrapped around him. She wrapped her arms around him accepting all that may happen. He untied and pulled her silk nightgown over
her head, exhibiting her full naked body.
