79 CHAPTER 79
"Alcatraz Island, with an area roughly the size of ten football fields, used to have a prison on it, but it was abandoned half a century ago. Some also call it Demon Island," Yuri pointed towards the isolated island on the sea, offering an explanation. He had finished reading all the books in the Central City library, and one of them documented stories about legendary prisons, mostly dating back to the '80s. Demon Island was one of them.
(A/N: I think it's mostly called The Rock, but we'll go with Demon Island for plot convenience and since this is also a diff universe.)
Knowledge stored by Ben 10,000 was also saved in Yuri's mind. However, to protect the human brain from collapsing due to excessive and complex knowledge, most of the information was stored in the subconscious. It was only brought to the forefront when Yuri needed to concentrate.
This was why Ben Tennyson's behavior in most cases at the age of ten was consistent with his age, while at times his intelligence might even exceed Gwen's.
In the Ben 10,000 era, Ben's knowledge reservoir rivaled the most advanced cosmic intellects. Creating the Biomnitrix wasn't a result of relying solely on the intelligence of extraterrestrial beings; it required extensive learning.
This indicated that using the Omnitrix to transform into aliens did impact the original genetic makeup, both positively and negatively.
The Omnitrix's protective mechanisms were designed to minimize negative effects. Thus, the more transformations occurred, the more profound the influence of alien genes on the host. Ultimately, this could lead to Ben being able to access various alien abilities while maintaining his human form.
"Demon Island? It's quite a fitting name considering what we're investigating," Superboy raised an eyebrow.
"Oh no!" Beast Boy suddenly exclaimed in shock.
"Demon Island was transformed into a tourist attraction a few months ago. Thousands of visitors visit the island every day!"
Of course, such a small island couldn't accommodate so many people at once. Instead, it operated as a 24-hour open but time-limited visitation spot. Only four hundred visitors were allowed on the island at a time, with a thirty-minute visiting duration.
Two ferries continually transported tourists, ensuring the gap between their arrivals and departures wasn't extensive.
"Beast Boy! Look there, a ferry is currently docking at the Demon Island pier!" Wonder Girl urgently pointed in a direction, "A group of tourists is on the island right now!"
Boom!
Unexpectedly, as the Teen Titans noticed tourists on the island, a tremendous explosion erupted from the center of Demon Island. In the distance, thick black smoke billowed into the sky, along with intense flames beneath it.
Countless tiny black dots scattered around the island like ants – everyone knew those were the tourists.
"No time to be stunned here! Bart, you're the fastest – get over there and evacuate all the tourists to the ship!"
"Conner! Cassie! Gar! And Yuri! You guys work together to put out the fire!"
Tim reacted first, urgently saying:
"Starfire! You and I will go check if the ferry has been tampered with, then ensure the safety of the ship and the tourists!"
A flash of white lightning and Bart disappeared instantly.
Superboy and Wonder Girl hovered in place, then flew towards Demon Island at nearly supersonic speed.
Beast Boy transformed into a swift bird called the sharp-tailed swallow, lagging behind Superboy and Wonder Girl, but his speed wasn't slow either.
Starfire held Tim's hand as they flew together. To accommodate Tim, Starfire slightly lowered their flying speed.
As for Yuri, he promptly activated the Omnitrix, selected the appropriate DNA sample, and lightly pressed the mechanism.
Swoosh!
With a burst of light, Yuri's body underwent a drastic transformation. Two sharp and slender insect legs grew from his ribs, his legs and arms turned into similar insect limbs, and his former hands transformed into claws.
His head was encased in black insect-like armor, with four eyes that could swivel protruding from both sides of his head. The opening and closing range of his upper and lower jaws nearly doubled, revealing sharp fangs.
A pair of yellow translucent wings sprouted from Yuri's back, along with an insect tail. The large and sharp tail spike inspired a sense of dread.
Stinkfly, a specie known as Lepidopterran, appeared as a gigantic insect, roughly the size of an adult. Its abilities were akin to those of most insects, including but not limited to flying, secreting adhesive mucus, exhaling poisonous gas, having an all-around field of vision, and exuding a stimulating scent.
Stinkfly's flying speed wasn't slow, but it was considerably slower than supersonic, comparable to the speed of the sharp-tailed swallow, slightly faster if anything.
As a result, Yuri and Beast Boy were in close proximity, with Superboy and Wonder Girl ahead of them, while Starfire and Robin were trailing behind.
At the same time, a cold gaze was fixed on them from somewhere on the island...
Bart was the fastest, arriving on the island almost in an instant.
From above the lighthouse, the situation wasn't entirely clear. It wasn't until Bart reached the scene that he realized the situation was far from optimistic.
The fire had already spread, engulfing nearly half of the buildings. Thick smoke pervaded the center of Demon Island, and coughing could be heard echoing from within the smoke.
"The smoke here is too thick. If I run around, I might collide with others..."
Bart anxiously thought, "But if we don't rescue people quickly, many will succumb to suffocation!"
Suddenly, Bart recalled the friendly match held on his first day at Titan Tower, where Tim had used smoke to block his vision and defeat him. Afterwards, Tim had reminded him that he could use wind to disperse the smoke.
"Alright, let me give it a try..."
Bart, being immature in his thinking, wasn't considering the potential consequences of using wind in this situation. He simply wanted to do whatever he could.
Bart extended his hands and began to rotate, generating a whirlwind.
However, before he could even start spinning, a deafening gunshot rang out from behind him. Almost immediately, a tearing pain shot through the inside of his right leg near his knee.
"Ah!"
Bart fell to the ground in agony, clutching his leg and screaming in pain.
"You fool! Don't you know wind can fan the flames? Now, by creating a whirlwind, you're only causing the fire to spread across the entire island. Everyone will pay the price for your recklessness!"
Wielding a shotgun, Deathstroke walked slowly towards Bart, towering over him.
"See, the Teen Titans are filled with ignorant and pitiable brats like you. One day, you'll end up killing yourselves and many innocent people!"
"In thirty seconds after I finish speaking, your teammates will arrive here. Remember to pass along my regards to them and tell them – kids shouldn't play dress-up in uniforms!"
With those words, Deathstroke jumped into the sea of flames, disappearing without a trace.
